My number 1 song for my ex wife, who passed away 13 years ago at the age of 44. I cry everytime. Neither one of us blamed each other for our separation and divorce, we just disagreed. Divorce time, my wife and I agreed to take the kids every other week. I was a shitty husband, but I was a great dad, and my wife respected me for that. We left it alone, but unfortunately she died soo young. Thank you for responding to this. BTW My favorite song of all time is All Along the Watch Tower. Not only is Dave on the original from Hendrix's recording, he also did his own version.

I recommend finding the original radio version of this song and giving it a listen. In this live version, an organ was used and in the original, it was some of the finest piano work in a song I've ever heard. This version is really good, but to me the piano in the original made it wonderful. I've always loved this song.

BP- I love how you listen to decades old songs and relate the lyrics to current issues. I’ve heard this as a love song my whole life. Now I have a different point of view to the deeper implications of the hook. And you’re right. People used to be able to “just disagree” with no good guy or bad guy. Not even that long ago. Like as recently as 2007.

It's always good to hear this song. I often quote it when I'm disagreeing with someone. "There ain't no good guys, there ain't no bad guys. There's only you and me and we just disagree." This is my antidote for Cancel Culture. Regarding your political questions. It can work. I was married almost 30 years to my late husband. He was a dyed-in-the-wool Republican (including Trump) and I'm a lifelong Democrat. It worked just fine as long as we didn't discuss politics or Rush Limbaugh. 😁

I never saw this to be about politics, but rather one of the many other things that arises in a relationship. She wants children, you don't. You want to live in the city, she doesn't. She wants her mother to live with you, you don't. You want to move, she doesn't. She believes a child should be disciplined, you don't. Relationships are complex and often fragile things, and sometimes small things become very large problems. To me this is one of the most adult and mature break up songs ever made.

One of the prettiest go Eff yourself songs ever written. "why should I care..its the end of our love song". A nice way of saying "See ya!" So, tears are flowing... I lost my David 2 years ago... He was my 1st love from back in 1980/81 when I was 16 and he was 17... We kept in touch our entire lives, and were finally going to give us a chance once again in 2022... But he died in his sleep and I'm still here. This was our "friendship" song. "Our Song" was the entire High Infidelity album by REO Speedwagon. Thanks for this. I had nearly forgotten... I miss him. Dave is a great vibe…love his music. I’ve always tried to live with this philosophy regarding relationships…maybe that’s why I’m still friends with most of my exes. There was a reason we got together and they’re good guys (for the most part) so if it didn’t work out why throw the friendship out, too? It’s good advice…❤

The way I hear this song is that they did a lot more than disagree; they were "friends" but it's the end of their love song. So the relationship ended a while back but I'm quite sure it didn't end up "we just disagree" at that time. This is the older, more mature view. "I'm not sure if I should care where you're at, if you have a place to stay," but all that stuff between us -- we just disagree. Dave Mason is brilliant.
