That little ol trio from Texas… ZZ TOP has been playing their version of Texas Rock and Blues since 1969. Reverend Billy Gibbons (guitar), Dusty Hill (bass) RIP, and Frank Beard (drums) have turned out so many great songs. Please listen to some of their early music from the 1970’s. A couple of must listen songs are La Grange (popular song), Tush, Jesus Just Left Chicago/Waitin For the Bus, Tube Snake Boogie, Francine, Heard it on the X. My two favorites are Blue Jean Blues and Mexican Blackbird.

Soundtrack of my youth :) ZZ Top was around for a LONG time (seven albums prior to this one) before this album came out. This was their transition into the 80s ... the MTV era ... and it was flawless. This album was an absolute monster. Lots of big top 40 hits. They blew up into the mainstream and found a whole other generation of fans with this album (and GREAT videos). Call it blues rock / boogie rock ... there's a certain "groove" to their brand of rock - and you felt it.

the drummer is Frank Beard, the only one without a beard. ZZ Top was all over MTv in the 80s and 90s. the band started out as a blues rock band. Bassist Dusty Hill passed away in 2021 as of 2024, ZZ Top is still playing shows with long time guitar tech Elwood Francis on bass. The other bearded fellow, the Reverend Billy Gibbons lead singer and guitarist and main writer. the car, called Eliminator, is 1933 Ford Coupe and is currently owned by Billy Gibbons. It appears in all of the ZZ Yops 80s and 90s videos. especially those from the albums Eliniator, Afterburner, and Recycler.

This video was part of the golden age of MTV when they actually played music. Artists were often telling a story with their videos and ZZ top was no different. The fantasy theme of the Boyd Coddington built 1933 "Eliminator" Ford Coupe and hot women featuring in their videos struck a chord with young adult rock fans and made the three Texas blues/rock journeymen a hit on MTV and rock icons to millions of gen Xers who discovered their older music after seeing these videos.

The "Eliminator" era videos are some of the classics, from the beginning of the MTV era. When you go back to their early era, prior to El Loco, then you get their pre-commercial era, some low down blues...but from this album, Thug, Sharp Dressed Man, Legs, TV Dinners.....great album.

These guys started out in the 1960s as a "Country Boogie" style band and towards 1972-3 they were coming into there own sound, Awesome 3 piece band - Billy Gibbons on lead guitar and vocals - Dusty Hill on base and vocals (passed 2 yrs ago) Frank Beard on drums and vocals (Never had a beard) always good vibes from these guys... The car is a 1933 Ford Coupe called "Eliminator" Billy commissioned a second car (a clone) of it to take on tour and left the original safe at home, Billy put one in the automotive hall of fame and supposedly still has the other one, which is an all steel car...

The car is Billy's and is featured on one of Jay Leno Garage episodes. The base guitarist is Dusty Hill and he passed away last year I think. The drummer is Frank Beard, the without the beard! The drummer is doing what's called "4 on the floor", it makes any song more dance-oriented. A normal rock beat is bass drum on 1 and 3, and snare on 2 and 4 and repeat, four on the floor means bass drum hits on all 4 notes. This sounds like it might even be a drum machine. I know the album they did after this, was programmed drums and a whole lot of electronics, so this album was likely dipping into that world too

You got hooked, this is just one of their greats, that car was the eliminator album cover and was used in multiple videos! Degulio had multiple hits as well Fool for your stockins is as blues as you’ll get! They are the fullest sounding group you’ll find and their just 3 piece band The Drummer Frank Beard Bass guitar dusty hill Lead guitar Billy gibbons Formed in 1969 Hill, and Gibbons made a bet on who would keep their beards the longest without cutting them, and the rest was history. La Grange was their first hit from their 3 rd album La Grange a brothel in Texas (I heard got closed down after the attention they received after the songs release) There was almost always sexual content on their music Songs like tube snake boogie, pearl necklace she don’t love me she loves my automobile But they did goofy songs like TV dinners Had an album titled one foot in the blues. They are a group that’s catalogue could all be in the playlist! Sadly Hill passed in 2021, gibbons and Beard continue with a Rodie taking Hills place at Hills request. Gibbons has worked with many other artists is a musical genius
