When Body Count dropped "Cop Killer" the entire media went nuts about whether rap music was too violent. Not one of those people with jobs as "journalists" on TV even once heard the song or realized it wasn't a rap song. All they knew was the group was black so it must be rap.

One of the most violent shows I ever went to in 1990. Virginia Beach police threatened to arrest him. Body Count came out on stage around 2:00 am and the place erupted in one big mosh pit and people getting bloodied . Ice-T loved it. Their stage setup was crazy ,too. Two big black body guards with shotguns on the sides of the stage and police lights and sirens blaring on the stage.

Body Count - Institutionalized Musically, they covered and imo improved on a late 80s Metal song of the same title by a band called Suicidal Tendencies. Lyrically, ST expressed anger towards society and religion trying to shape them. Body Count has a whole new set of lyrics about things that piss him off. Much more trivial matters, but it's hilarious.

I worked with body count as a roadie and let me tell ya it was an honor. Beat master V Vic he had this big heavy steal base he mounted his drums on. At the Masonic temple the concert hall In Toronto Canada. I asked him I said Vic why so much waight man dam that shit is almost 500 pounds dam Vic he looked up at me and said Kev I need this. I was like alright I continued to hand him drum pieces. While he built his kit. After the kit was all ready I stood back and he started playing. I'll never forget I stood their watching and thinking holy shit holy shit. Vic hit so hard that If he didn't have all that waight holding down his kit the person In the front row would be wearing his drums. I remember being on the back of the truck off loading gear with the band yes folks they loaded In and loaded out their own gear I first met Vic on the back of a 53 foot trailer. He said any of you guys no about drums I said I play the drums he asked what's your name bro I said Kevin he stuck out his hand and said I'm Vic your with me today. Vic It was an honor. Rest well. Ice-T knows his metal: he told on several occasions (and on their recorded cover of Raining Blood) that he created Body Count just to give his buddy Ernie .C a chance to play his guitar and he wanted the band to sound like a mixture of Slayer's speed, Black Sabbath's vibe and some Suicidal Tendencies's punk influence.
