I Remer the several years while the old bridge was being demolished & the new one being built, Kenneth & sailed South from Winterport every spring, & then north again in the fall back to the winter storage yard. Great memories.

Love this bridge! We did the observatory a couple of years ago and my wife who's not crazy about heights or confined spaces loved it! The views are stunning, as is the bridge itself.

It is pretty stupendous. Like your wife, I am leery of high places ... and had a bit of anxiety driving up there. Then, when it looms around the corner, I mutter, "Aw jeez, here we go. But gotta do it."

One of my best friends growing up, his dad designed the bridge with his crew working for DOT. AmazIng when you see it in person!

I toured it the summer it opened. The old bridge was still standing then. It was cool to ba able to look down at the old bridge, and see all of the temporary cable repairs done to it to keep it open till the new bridge was done.

I miss the osprey nest on the Waldo-Hancock Bridge; peregrine falcons also nested there...

There is an osprey nest on the Verona end of the new bridge, downriver side.

The bridge actually connects Prospect with Verona Island.

Yes, it does. But as copy-editors, we use a technique called "vague it up." Ergo, it can be argued that the bridge does connect Prospect and Bucksport ... with a short layover in Verona Island. However, "vague it up" does not allow us to say the bridge connects Prospect and, say, Bar Harbor. That would be stretching my poetic licensing, haha.

How serious are the many cracks that are in the towers from the deck to the top?

As someone with vertigo, the bridge itself needs warning. I had to turn around. I could not cross it. The exposure can trigger vertigo just driving across it. Really, this bridge needs warnings, especially since the approach from the south gives absolutely no warning of the fright and difficulty that is coming.

More than slightly scary- I have no choice but to look at that burden on taxpayers everyday. Not safe in nasty weather, ice falls from the top and onto cars. Its also built on Native American burial site. WAAAAY too big for this tiny town
