I just realized bc of the cover you showed in this video, that the Oz books I have are all actually first editions! I have only 4 out of the series. They were my grandmother's, the covers are not in great condition but the pages are all good and one says quite clearly copyright 1908 L Frank Baum....that's so cool!

Holy shit that’s cool,I don’t have any first additions of any books, but I do own a second edition of the first Harry Potter book,I would kill to have something even close to that

One would think with budgetary resources this show has, they would have hired a rare/antiquarian book dealer as a consultant, if nothing else for the look of the books. Mock-ups would be preferable, I think.

Absolutely. A lot of films and tv get these details wrong. A notable exception would be the recent Little Women film, which went to great pains to replicate both the book, and the printing and binding processes of the time

Having been in a real library of rare books, the owner allowed his guests to touch all the books, and assured us all the books were insured. The point was not to hide things away, it was to give access to people that would never have a chance to get so close to such rare history. One of the best evenings of my life.

How about comparing you to Dean Corso (Johnny Depp) in the Ninth Gate? Re the glass cage... The big stack in the middle of the British Library that goes from floor 4 to the basement. (that may have been the inspiration for the one in the film. That or the Secret Vatican Library as shown in the Dan Brown film?

@@ShieldiceStudio I would be curious to hear Tom's thoughts of Dean Corso smoking a cigarette whilst handling the old and rare books in the film. I got quite annoyed at it, thinking no antiquarian book dealer would do that!

If you’re doing videos about fictional booksellers, would you consider one about The Ninth Gate? It’s not only about a fictional bookseller, but also a fictional book, supposedly co authored by the devil himself.
