The frisbee hat was cool when I was 12 years old. Now, I find it stupid. As with most everything about the early Bond movies, beginning with Goldfinger. The only one that I can stand now is "On Her Majesty's Secret Service." Mostly because of Diana Rigg. The decision to ditch the camp and go back to a grittier, more realistic Bond did wonders for the franchise. In short, Connery's reservations about where Bond was headed were correct. The formula got seats in theaters filled, but it got stale.

Although the film doesn't make any sense at all (crushing a Lincoln Continental - axles, engine and all - into a cube that would weigh much more than the vehicle transporting it back to Goldfinger; five light planes supposedly sufficient to spray a metropolitan area with nerve gas), the whole thing was done with such fine pacing and flair that it remains entertaining, except for feminists (Bond slaps Dink on her tush and tells her to "run along - man talk"!).

Yeah, I've never understood the hate Thunderball gets. It's not quite as good as Goldfinger or From Russia With Love, but for me it's definitely the third best (of Connery's films) after that. It's easily one of the most stylish of the Bond films, a time capsule of pure 60s glamour. And the underwater battle scene still holds up today, which is more than can be said for some of the later denouements (cough Moonraker cough cough). An amazing piece of action choreography. I'd definitely rate it among the top 5 or 6 Bond films of all time.

Agree about Goldfinger, but I always felt Connery looked tired and fed up with the role by YOLT. There are some great set pieces and Donald Pleasance is by far the best Blofeld of all time, but Connery's performance really lets it down for me- he just isn't really trying as hard any more by that point (kind of reminds me of Daniel Craig in Spectre- Bored, James Bored as Honest Trailers put it). Miles better than Diamonds Are Forever or Never Say Never Again, though, of course- by that point he really didn't give a shit, and the movies are awful generally as well. My very favorite Bond film is “Live and Let Die”. All the creepy Voodoo elements & Roger Moore’s charms were iconic. Lastly, I’m a huge Beatles fan so the theme song by Paul & Linda McCartney was just the icing on the cake 🎂 😁

One of the best Bond books! The name Goldfinger came from the English Brutalist architect Erno Goldfinger who had recently designed Trellik and Balfron Towers in London. Fleming had met him at a London party. The two towers are still iconic, now listed, buildings, and the flats (apartments) are greatly sought after places to live.

I ABSOLUTELY LOVED Roger Moore in "The Spy Who Loved Me" That movie had all best characteristics of a James Bond film and the opening theme was mesmerizing, agent Triple X was gorgeous, and JAWS was an unrelenting menace! Don't get me wrong I love Sean Connery too, but I grew up watching Roger Moore as he first came on the scene in "Live and let Die" which also has a great opening theme

Loved rogers films and his potrayal of the character, he said that the character of Bond was "total bollocks", and that is how he played him, the guy is supposed to be a spy, able to blend in, and yet he can walk into any bar in the world, and the barman will greet him with "ah, Mr Bond".

Okay, Goldfinger is my favourite Bond followed by From Russia With Love and Thunderball. This is a good piece with a minor (major to some) faux pas: Terence Young (not Fisher) was the architect of the movie series and Connery's Bond movie character. Connery himself has credited Young with shaping him in that role. These early films, Goldfinger included, were something fresh in the movies of the early Sixties. Thank you for this.

Sean Connery’s Bond was essentially Terence Young’s real life persona. Connery had a rough and tumble, lower class upbringing who, until becoming an actor, had an almost indecipherable Scottish accent. Young taught Connery how to dress, walk, and speak… and introduced the “fine living playboy” image into the character. Terence Young deserves much of the credit for creating the iconic screen character now synonymous with Bond.

Gert Frobe is pronounced GAIRT FROH-buh. Gert, by the way, is short for Gerhard (Gerald in English). So Gert kind of means "Jerry." One also does not "lay" under a table, but lies under it. This has gotten to be a grammatical problem for a lot of English speakers. since elementary schools don't function very well any more.

Funny, because I actually think Dalton's two movies were one of the best of the franchise. Even though the production and writing could have been better here and there, I liked the dark direction it took. "The living daylights" kinda reminded me of "From Russia With Love", being a cool espionage thriller with intrigue. "Licence to Kill" for me remains as the most special movie, it's brutality reminded me a lot from the Fleming books. Connery, Dalton and Craig all were always the most enjoyable Bonds to me, I liked their toughness. They portrayed the Bond character in a way that you wouldn't want to mess with them (especially somewhere in a dark street), but still respect their craft. I respect Brosnan and Moore, but I just personally never managed to take them serious enough.

The clever, witty remarks declined after Goldfinger. One standout, during the golf game, Oddjob pretends to find Goldfinger's lost ball. Bond's caddy doesn't think it is his ball and Bond says, " It's not". Caddy says, how do you know? Bond replies, I,m standing on it. Classic.

The last time I saw the film in a special theatrical reissue, I noticed a huge flub. When the car is crushed in the junkyard, there is clearly no body inside. Considering how many locations were spliced together to create the sequence where Oddjob shoots the mafia guy, I guess that's understandable.

The Aston Martin that was seen in this movie was stolen from the Henry Ford Museum when they had an exhibit of bond items. When it was being transported back to where it was from, it stolen in transit. Unless you've heard something I have no idea if they ever got the car back. My cousin from England up until 1971 was responsible for Ford Motor Company supplying the cars for the James Bond movies his name was Walter Hayes. He was in the PR department in Ford Motor Company, and later on in his career did become the Aston Martin CEO. Enjoy the video thank you.

Fun fact... The DB5 nearly wasn't the car used for the film. The producers went to Aston Martin & they said no but they could buy one for the full price (£5000 approx in 1963). After much conversation, Aston Martin gave the producers a development DB5 (actually a DB4 Series 5 Vantage) and proceeded to spend about £25000 make the modifications for the various gadgets (about 5x the price of the car itself)
