Hey Shauno, Awesome new rig mate, looks well taken care of. The best second hand bargain that I have ever come across for a 4WD was when I met my girlfriend, her grandparents had a 1995 Toyota Hilux 2.4L 22R petrol dual cab solid axel front and rear which I was eventually lucky enough to purchase off them after her grandfather unfortunetly passed away. They originally purchased it new from Kalamunda Toyota in the Perth Hills area and it was never taken off road just used as the family car that could carry the horses hay bales in the back and eventually all the grand kids learned how to drive in it. I am now the second owner and I purchased it for what they had it insured for, 3 grand with 160,000Ks on the clock, it has all the original rego papers, service manuals, receipts and log books. It came stock with leather seats and didn’t have a single after market modification but the alloy bull bar with brush bars and side steps that it came with, still has the AM radio without even a tape deck in it haha but It is daily driven and my family and I have made many great memories in it and has grown to be such a sentimental vehicle both for my girlfriend growing up with it and myself having gained 4WD skills and the confidence to get to those special places as it continues to surprise us with its capabilities. I was also born In 1995 so I feel as if we are ageing together :) Cheers for the great efforts you guys go to for the 4WD community, I look forward to the future adventures and info you guys share with us.

I’ll keep her stock standard for longevity. The Mrs and I are currently on our first road trip at Airlie beach from tweed heads, with a few days at Fraser Island on the way. Aww geez! Rub it in.. what a specimen.. The best deal I ever got was an old land cruiser my friend's dad was talking about at a barbecue. I really wanted a 4wd but I knew I should get a truck and when he mentioned that he bought it as a project but didn't have time to fix it and none of his kids were interested in Toyota's. I mentioned that I was on a tight budget and he said he'd make me a deal. He also noted it wasn't running but he would help me get it going. After some crazy stories about his adventures in the oil fields in Africa I set up a time to go look at it. What on earth?! It was a land cruiser truck! A 1967 fj45.. $1000, more money for parts and we got old L.C. on the road. 29 years later it's sitting in my barn waiting for a restoration, no real fault of its own aside from neglect and a busy life..

It was a real poster for Toyota reliability, stuck a new battery in it to see if it would kick over and get oil pressure, and she started second crank.

I my parther and I inherited his grandfathers old 1992 Nissan GQ Cab-chassis TB42 Carby, one owner with all the original paperwork and not a single aftermarket modification! The best part is that the ute only had 92,000km total on the odo in the last 30 years. Of course we had to keep its original name, "Pops Bumpy Truck", but its one hell of a project car!!

I just went and picked up a 95 80 series, 1hz GXL with 374k on the clock. 2 owners, no rust just been loved for 19.5k. still has all the original books with full service history. Even got the card with the key in it for in your wallet in its original plastic! It’s in fantastic shape absolutely stoked to have found it

My friend found an absolute weapon of an hj 47 that had about 190000km on the clock. The the owner had it since brand new and rarely drove it. When he decided to sell it he through the should completely do it up and got it completely detailed and a new tray because of minor rust. So all and all it was a one owner hj47 with 190000km and service by Toyota with new tray and he got it for $12000, my friend offed to pay more as it was too good of a deal but the man (farmer) denied and said it deserves a good home rather than the highest bidder

Nice buy Shauno 👌, I had bought my first 4wd which was a D22 for $13,500 with 100,000kms but I then sold it and bought a 2005 GU S4 3.0l grandpa spec for $ 18,000 with around 150,000kms since then it now has the TD42 conversion done to it and I wouldn't change a thing on it. Absolutely love it!! Cheers

I picked up a 98 GU patrol TI owned by a 90yr old man from brand new, absolute grandpa spec, 2 folders full of receipts from every dollar spent on it, not a single mod besides halogen spotties and a towbar, never seen a dirt road, fitted with factory floor mats with aftermarket floor mats on top and when it rained he would line the floor with newspaper, never seen a car so well looked after, I have fitted a 2" lift some 35's bullbar and drawers for our family weekend camping rig, absolutely love it

I picked up 97 LN106 for $1250 off a P plater. It had a few little issues. But after about a grand's worth of maintenance and a few hundred more for RW and Rego. I drove it around for a bit over a year while I rebuilt the 12HT in my 61 and sold it for $9k and paid off the rebuild. Thanks Jocko for driving up the price of the old luxy's ;)

I have a used 1991 Ford Explorer 4.0 5speed limited slip ford 8.8 rear diff and Dana 44 front diff with warn lockouts. I paid 400.00 dollars for it originally from a friend who just loved it but he had too many vehicles. That thing my wife and son drove for years until it got parked with multiple issues for 4+ years behind the garage. After watching some of your 4wd 24/7 vids I put a battery in it and had it running in 5 minutes. It now has a 4” lift 31x10.5 tires, some new headlights and all new ball joints, universal joints up front and new steering box. I am currently replacing some body panels, have a new clutch and will be freshening up some extra heads for the engine. Thanks for the inspiration!

Quite jealous of you Shauno. I'm 19 and just recently took out a loan to buy a mint '97 1hdft 80 series with 290xxx kms for high $30,000s. The fuel pump started leaking about 2 weeks in, cost me $6k. Already spent $12k total in maintenance. Quite hard spending this much on $19 per hour aha. Took 3 years to find one this immaculate and saw some absolute nightmare 80s in that time disguised as clean rigs. Despite the expense im keen for the trips ahead

4 months ago i brought a 1995 one owner gq patrol with a snapped timing belt for $3000 of an older lady who had only ran it to and from to the shops, brought it with plans of a barra swap, but decided to pull the old rd down to the block as it only has 180000km and to my surprise pulled the head off, and there wasnt a mark on it or the block, but decided once its off to refresh the motor, fast foward to now, its got a brand new head, injectors, glow plugs and it now runs like a brand new car. Also another great score on top of the imaculate condition is it had a full tank of diesel when we fired it up. Its now on club reg with plans to lift it, exhaust, wheels and to put a nice chrome grill and get the factory bar chromed and have it as a nice crusier as its too good to bush bash thank you

G'day Shauno and 4WD 24/7 crew! Nice 80 series! I bought a very cool vehicle a couple of years ago! It's a Toyota Hiace Super Custom 1996 Full-Time 4WD, 1KZ-TE turbo diesel for only $8000. They usually go for $15000 to $19000+ normally. While it's not immaclate, it's still in good condition and I love it! it's been my daily driver and camper to get off the beaten track for the past couple of years! :-) I have a bed base in the back, side awning and for a non low-range vehicle it doesn't do too bad in the muddy stuff! I haven't ever got bogged in it! Cheers, James from Tassie!

What a clean look 80. Two years ago I purchased a 3.2L D22 Navera 2000 model for $4000. 260 000k. It’s was not standard with after market turbo and Intercooler. ARB front and rear bars, Warn winch, IPF Spots Lights, uhf, ARB compressor, ARB canopy, Dual Battery, camp lights and there is things I have probably missed. This has been the funnest car I’ve owned to date 😁

I got and absolute ball tearer 4 years ago today. Driving through country Vic and a grandpa 1990 gq patrol/ford maverick TD42 diesel parked out the front of a farm. 94 year old fellow bought it new, no dents or paint fade, full service books and a tonne of receipts. Was garaged every night from new, he out house carpet over the floor and sheepskin seat covers and the original tape deck and got it for $4300 with a year rego and RWC. Took it to my mechanic and he nearly fell over lol. I felt like I robbed him but I’m saying that I’d never sell it and it’s in great hands and it’s my daily drive. Now it’s done 535’000km and is as quiet as it would have been new and gets serviced ever 5000 on the dot and for it’s birthday I’m getting it a turbo to help it up the hills. Man I love this thing and so pumped I drove past it that day as I’d never be able to afford one at what they are actually worth. Great find on yours and all the other guys that have commented. Still had the old racv sticker on the window lol

When I was looking for a 4wd to replace my jimny, I was on a really strick budget and didn't think I would have enough for the vehicle I wanted. Ended up scrolling marketplace at the right time, and was able to buy an rd28 gq for $2000. It wasn't perfect, was a bit mouldy and mossy as it had been sitting, however it was perfect for me and came with a decent amount of accessories, as well as being mostly straight, having minimal leaks/issues, and also mostly rust free. It has served me well in the 2 years I've owned it, and hasn't let me down once. I haven't seen a deal like it since, and I doubt I will ever see one like it if the prices keep going the way they are

I scored the deal of a lifetime. Picked up a 2004 HDJ100 manual with 262,000km for $14k from an online auction sight unseen. It wasn’t running due to flat batteries. We only found out on collection that it came Twin locked with ARB lockers & compressor, 150L long range tank 240L total great for the remote trips. Full bash plates and heavy duty suspension. Water tank fitted to the chassis & tap on the kaymar rear bar. Only discovered the Safari Chip when I went to fit my aftermarket sterio from my old vehicle. Love the rig and she’s ready to go anywhere in the country!

My dad and I were in the market for a 12HT 60 series in any condition a couple of years ago. We found a high-roof 1988 HJ61 with over half a million km about an hour's drive out of Brissy and when we heard it running there was no way we were going to leave it there especially for the price $4200! Bugger me dead, a month later another one (low roof, 1986) popped up not far from home for $4800 with rego. Couldn't leave it there, minimal rust and we bought it off the original owners! Now we've got a project each! That's a win in my books!

Just this week i bought a Gu patrol for $6500 although the k’s were high, no rust, no damage to chassis, brand new lift kit, muddies with it too and the good old bloke chucked in a 12v oven to go with it. He said “bought it for the rig it has to stay with it”. Funnily enough the gu has always been one of my dream cars since 1999 ( when I was in prep and my uncle owned one) now I have my very own.

My wife and I purchased a 2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser from a used car dealership. It was 12th year wedding gift. We saw the add on the internet, made a phone call to ask a few questions then we drove 160 miles to buy it. The FJ Cruiser had absolutely no rust was obviously garage kept and looks to have never been off pavement. Everything functions perfectly. And not a drop of any kind of oil or fluid leaks. I am truly grateful to have a clean title to this rig. But more importantly I am blessed with a wonderful loving Wife that puts up with me 🙂. You really got a great Land Cruiser there👍🏻

I snagged up a 2000 4runnner (I believe a Prado for you chaps) in the limited series. I am the 6th owner of the car and it has been registered in more than 4 states across the USA. This model has 2wd, awd, 4h, and 4L with e-locker stacked on top. It is rust free and the paint out mirrors even some newer cars; though my off-road badges of honor are starting to deepen. It has about 216,000 miles or 347,000 km, not bad for a gas truck. I picked it up from southern USA a year ago and have been slowly resto modding it to be a solid rig.

My mate is an importer and suggested I buy a box Prado 1994 KZJ78 as I was looking for a solid axle coil sprung 4WD for a trip we were planning . He picked it up cheap at auction and passed it on to me as the first one he imported for a trip we were going to do. It’s like a Defender but reliable and comfortable FSH too. I’ve never been a Toyota man but I’m in love with the thing. I can’t say what I paid for it landed here but you can’t buy them now for what I paid.

I don’t think there many if any like this floating around so it was a pretty amazing buy.
