As a Westerner who has been to China, I’m always sad there are so few videos of the past century. This makes it really difficult to get an understanding of the great and impressive development the mainland has undergone since the 1980s. Thank you for uploading this! I personally feel I like the vibe of the 1980s to 2000s China better than today, but that’s also true for any other place. A simpler time.

All reminiscent of my childhood before moving to USA with my parents in 1992. 天河體育場,花園酒店,東方賓館,中山五路(where my parents’ state owned herbal store was located), 濱江,海珠橋,中山紀念堂。All so familiar as I was still a little elementary school girl growing up in 東山區。I still remember my old apartment building was 東風五路776號,according from 地質局。Mu auntie from HK would get off at 廣州火車站 where my parents would pick her up. I left Guangzhou after elementary school graduation in 1992, and now I’ve been in USA for more than 30 years. It’s good to see my childhood and birthplace.
So many years and you still have this video. Very good. I wanted to see the history of Guangzhou since no one wants to talk about the past during the 1980's. This is helpful as a good history into the past.

THIS is so true!! Feel exactly the same … and always wonder why it’s so hidden. Including many Chinese who don’t want to talk about the “earlier days” - very strange to me as China can be so proud of its architectural and construction achievements of the past 30 years.

@@flori5548 I tell Chinese people from China that don't want to talk about how China was like before that even the past has been hard, but China has improve. I understand there's a lot of people were embarrassed because China didn't have a lot to offer a long time ago, but now it's different and China can put itself on the map in respect to the Chinese.
I used to visit Guangzhou and stayed Dongang hotel then went to coastal area like Yang jiang. My memory of the city scene is just as your film. Their fashion was still old but people were so aggressive and got fruitful business.Really thank you for uploading. If have next chance I want to visit again.
