@@mightymystery9204 You are wrong to say that it is something typical of Europeans in general. In most European Union countries, fire trucks are much more modern than those in the video, and are periodically renewed. You can see this by watching videos similar to this one of fire trucks from Germany, France, Spain, Holland, Italy, Belgium, Austria, etc. You will see that most of the trucks and equipment that you see are quite modern
@mightymystery9204
3 жыл бұрын
@@DocRammstein I did not say equipment was out of date, but rather, I said that Europeans do not change what works. It follows that, if it were deficient, they would change it. For the Russians, the Zil cab and chassis are ubiquitous. Spare parts could be had from the military supply system, if needed. This is another advantage of consistency. And nothing prevents installing upgraded pumps or other equipment, as new ones are designed. A standardized chassis makes it possible for upgrades, designed for that universal prime mover, to be retrofitted. Modernity is not based on the body, but on the installed equipment. I have heard no complaints about the ability of European fire services.

@@spaghettimonster6808 Ural is heavier than ZiL 131 (Ural payload - 6,8t; tows 11,5t. ZiL 131 payload - 5t, 4t off-road; tows 8t, 5t off-road), Ural is more powerful than ZiL (Ural diesel engine 230hp - 312hp; ZiL petrol engine 150hp), and Ural is still in production, with updated "Ural Next" model from last year, the last ZiL was produced in 2002. In Emercom they are using Ural and KamAZ off-road trucks to slowly replace the old ZiLs as they wear out. In my personal opinion, it's complicated. In the big picture, old Urals with their original 7-litre petrol engines are unjustifiably thirsty (nobody worried about that back in the Soviet Union), but the models fitted with Soviet-era YaMZ 236 or 238 diesels are far better, more powerful and even more reliable than the very reliable 180hp petrol engines. Off-road the ZiL and Ural are quite evenly matched for terrain capability, but within their different weight categories. I own a ZiL 4331 (two-wheel drive road truck) with a Soviet-made YaMZ 236 engine fitted, and it is a brilliant truck. But emissions requirements have not been kind to the 236/238 families of engines, and many of the newer variants have become troublesome and less reliable, and I am told by a friend in Emercom that Urals with this newer emissions-compliant YaMZ engine have reliability problems. KamAZ off-roaders using the old KamAZ 740 family of engines have suffered from weak main bearings as a design flaw of that engine, the white metal bearing shells must be changed annually to guarantee reliable operation of the engine. The Chinese Cummins engines are more reliable, but they are complex, more expensive to outfit and even basic parts are expensive and often hard to find, personal experience. My friend prefers the old ZiLs and older Urals. He says they are faster, easier and more convenient to repair, especially on the job, you can repair them independently of any dealer and often with ordinary materials in place of specialised parts, and there are much fewer electronics to be affected by moisture, ambient temperature or the harshnesses of off-road driving. I am inclined to agree with him from my own experience.

They are still being produced on Ural plant with the very same design, but everything inside is different. I dont think that any city Fire Dept in Russia have ZiLs, almost all of them were replaced by AMUR that have the same exterior, but very different inside. But there are still lots of "Reserve" ZIL's in Russia, which are being given now to the smal countryside fire dept. Why would you keep a truck in a garage for 25 years and then take it back into the force - I dunno. But I guess its better than nothing.

You'll hardly beat a ZiL 131 for offroad performance. These stock fire engines will drive through over a metre thick fresh snow without any problems.
