Goodness, Have never seen another one of these! Took the exact one off my mom's door (she had this for over 40 years) do not know where she got it, probably a garage sale or in a flea mkt in Minnesota! I am just now in the process of putting a vintage Solid oak door with 9 small frosted windows on the top section (door came out of Catholic Girls School in the early part of the last century) and we are adding this exact door bell to it! It is in pristine condition-covered by a storm door all those years! My house is1937, and all the fixtures are vintage, Added vintage lighting also. Crystal & brass door knobs, everything that would belong in a vintage house. Have done vintage for over 50 plus years, and almost everything in my house is vintage or antique. SO SO HAPPY TO KNOW HOW OLD THIS REALLY IS, and you do excellent work! THANK YOU!

@randomrestoration6858
2 жыл бұрын
@@makyhsmakyhs6766 Good question! For small parts like screws I'll usually put them in a drill and sand just the top. If they're brass screws I'll use a Dremel tool with a fine polishing compound to polish the top before lacquering them to prevent tarnish. I usually leave them in the drill while working on them since it grips them well and is way easier than trying to polish them in your hands. For steel springs I usually also use a Dremel tool to clean them up before bluing them. For brass springs they'll get an abrasive buffing, then are wire wheeled to reach areas the buffs missed, followed by a quick polish with the fine polishing compound. Usually the springs have to be held in your hand which makes it a bit trickier, but with enough practice it goes pretty quickly.

Haha you're totally correct, I suppose the interior of the bell base was the brown colored piece, all the rest was gold. Thank you for watching!

I would be nice if the color was the old copper one. Nice restoration

I'd love to occasionally apply a copper colored lacquer to these rather than only a bronze colored lacquer, but I have to find just the right mix of tint to get the color I'm looking for - It may take me a while before I get there haha. Thanks a lot for watching!

New subscriber here. I like the “conversational” written commentary (Gadzooks sealed the deal 4 me, lol), the up close view of what u do, the unique/ornate treasures u restore, and thank u 4 wearing gloves! Bravo!
