Im 69 in 9 days. 3/4/1955 Can anyone tell me a greater period of time than the 60s, 70s, and even the 80s. The bands are way too numerous to try and name. I know we are prejudiced but seriously name a time period better. There is no one that has replaced the ones that either died or retired. No one. If you listen to music nowadays its probably been tampered with electronically.

I know what you mean, I'm 72 ,I just got back from Vietnam and heard this song for the first time. I was a professional drummer and toured and recorded with many popular groups of the day. In 73 I had the honor of backing up Jr walker, Archie bell and the drells , and the temptations . A 16 pc union band backed all 3 acts. It was an afternoon jazz festival. Later that night a bunch of us saw the raspberries I think it was the whiskey a go go. They were fantastic . Fighting cancer now, I would give all my tomorrow's to go back to those days. How blessed we were to have lived through that era🎉

I saw the Raspberries in Baltimore 1972. Actually went to their hotel room with my friend. She actually hooked up with Dave. I sat and watched Shenandoah with Jim (ouch...not the greatest movie to see with a stranger). Eric came in with a girl in a fur coat. Wally walked in and out doing laundry. The next day, I went back to the hotel. I believe it was Jim and Dave came out wanting to go see, I believe it was, Dave's uncle. I knew the address and they trusted me to take them, which I did. I swore I would never sell that car.

It's 10.30pm Tuesday night 12/03/2024 and I've just flicked the T.V. over to Ch 9 in Sydney. They were showing The Raspberries "Go all the Way" I thought "Why are they playing that?" "Is Eric touring soon?" Then I thought "Oh no he hasn't died" "Has he?" My fears were confirmed by the news voice over person. "Eric Carmen was 74" Now I can't stop crying. Not only did Eric help create one of the greatest, mind blowing Guitar riffs in Rock history, he then composed some of the most tasteful Ballads of all time. Good quality Ballads are extremely hard to write. Thanks for the great music and the brilliant singing voice Eric. Eric lived a successful existence and died peacefully in his sleep. "Come on Baby!!!" RIP - Eric Carmen

Lot of crap in the 70s too....lot of bombastic arena rock that quite honestly was just that, equivalent to pop music crap today....lot of great music as well. One of the problem is that rock radio became like top 100. When wplj and wnew in NYC were at their peak you heard a lot of great music. But then they narrowed playlists and albums suddenly were tailored to play lists ( Jethro Tull was the classic example of this later on). Remember too that most of the bands you are talking about got their start in the 60s. Punk came out of the 70s, and helped create later generations of alt music ( punk itself was a reaction to corporate rock). There always of course were the A and R mafia or Rolling Stone trying to make rock into classical music or something, but the 60s had a lot more experimentation I think. Part of it was FM radio in the 60s was an afterthought,AM top 40 like WABC were the big deal. So FM radio was kind of free, stations like wnew FM and wplj FM were playing all kinds of music. ( Funny story, wplj was originally I think WABC FM, fcc decision said FM stations had to have their own call signs. They let the staff at what became wplj decide, bunch of the jocks and such got together one night ( on who knows what)..wplj came from a now obscure song 'white port with lemon juice tastes fine....Dave Herman told stat story). 70s also gave us Disco and 'music' like England Dan and John Ford Cooley, Air Supply, 10cc and the like too...great scene ( one of the few) in 'Vinyl' is a producer getting coked up bc he was due in studio to produce an England Dan and John Ford Coley album *lol* ( that and Led Zeppelins manager raging about the record label being sold to a German company).

It’s too bad Raspberries had such a short existence. I don’t think they got the Love they deserved. What talented musicians to pull that song off live and it sounds astonishing. Raspberries forever…RIP Eric you were a cool dude and a Patriot. You and Amy had a great rapport with your Fans. Thank you for bringing happiness to the world with your music.

I saw this band in 1974 when they came to my small hometown in SC towards the end of their run, and just before Eric Carmen went solo. I know the critics loved to hate on them, but honestly they were very good musicians.

1974 is the year I saw The Raspberries in Chicago at the Auditorium Theatre. They were the back-up band for Blue Oyster Cult and the crowd was brutal!! Talk about rude! Back then Chicago audiences could be real a$$-holes, throwing lit fireworks from the balconies down into the seats below, and on this night some dip-$hit flung a can of beer (Old Style) just missing the drummer. I agree that they did put on a good show in spite of the a$$-hats hating on them.

@@davidgibbs381 I still do not understand the hate for that band, and I was a rock and roll musician back in the 70's. I thought they were pretty good. I went to a lot of rock concerts back then and do remember when idiots thought it was a good idea to bring fireworks to a show in addition to getting so drunk/high they would throw up everywhere. I just wanted to enjoy the bands, but sometimes that was a challenge. I nearly got crushed to death at a Boston concert. GOOD TIMES! :-)
