On the verge of the 6th and 7th generations of consoles, Insomniac Games had a lot on its hands to deal with. A complete restructuring of work processes to accommodate the new hardware, a new game in a new IP that must be released on its launch day, and a lot of tough decisions that need to be made for Ratchet & Clank’s further growth. With all that, the studio needed more time than usual. And since the publisher still wanted new games in that period, their development had to be handed off to other studios. What that resulted in is what this episode of the retrospective is talking about.
