Yet again another great Ratchet and clank video. I heard about this one but never did play it though. Gotta say the history behind this title is quite something. Adapt or die is right. As for next time, Talk about an ironic coincidence that you will be talking about Ghost of Tsushima when just two days ago, we got a trailer that a director's cut is coming out next month. I very much doubt your gonna wait till that releases but either way, I look forward to it.

Yeah, the timing worked out both well and a bit unfortunately on Ghost. But like hell I'm recording a _third_ playthrough of that game now! 10 guns is actually one of the best things about the game. You get ammo you'd like more often. There's less total ammo at your disposal, forcing you to be smart with it (especially at higher difficulties) and each gun (just about) means something and is actually useful. They actually managed to make a shield gun a viable piece of equipment! And none of those ridiculous and silly weapons rear their stupid head. And yes, the mods make things SO much better. There's so much personality to the arsenal.

@@TheGoldenBolt Couple of other anachronistic things that come to mind: In Jak II, Daxter has a line "orange is the new black", which predates the TV series with that name by about a decade. Also, it's hard to not be reminded of Jak X, by the film Death Race, which came out a few years later (not the one from the 1970s). Also, not anachronistic, but one contemporary review likened Ratchet Deadlocked to the film Running Man (the one with Arnold Schwarzenegger).

What an amazing video on my favorite Ratchet game of all time. I know it's not the best in the series, but I have strong nostalgic memories towards this game because it was the first game I ever played on my PS2 that my parents gave me on Christmas in 2005. I think I will never forget how cool and edgy the soundtrack is compared to the other games, how the story had weight to it, how the planets had environmental storytelling to them besides being shown in short missions at times, and how no matter what crazy situations you were put in, Merc and Green were always cracking jokes, not to mention the hilarious commentaries from Dallas and Juanita. I could talk for hours about it. Man, I love this game so much, Thank you for making such an amazing video!

Your point on the co op makes me want them to remake this game with modern graphics, reimplemented cut content, and online co-op. Imagine playing as alpha clank with your friend and having banter dialogue between ratchet and clank, something like Al managing to hack Vox's feed to allow Clank to aid Ratchet in combat when your friend drops into co-op and Vox restoring the feed when your friend has to leave. A bit late to comment, yet wanted to share a couple of words about my experience regarding this game: Fearing to repeat what others had, even with better phrasing, stated, I would only say I enjoyed a lot this game; even if it felt short or rushed at times, the teams back at Insomniac really did the best they could with what they had, and that effort became reflected on the gameplay. I remember enjoying the heck out of this game countless times back in the day, especially making extensive use of the Alpha and Omega mods, even coordinating efforts with one sibling, the reason I was even able to get my hands on this game. Also, most of the time, either solo or in co-op mode, trying to beat the entire game in one go, without saving, as we didn't get the Memory Card nor knew if there was a means to save game data on another storage device (e.g. a USB stick). (If any of you reading this still have the game around, give it an opportunity and try to finish the full campaign either solo or with a friend without taking a break, it might pose as a good challenge). Good times, indeed. Thank you Mr. Bolt for reminding me about this game and providing us with this excel dissection and explanation about what Deadlocked / Gladiator posed to Insomniac at the time. I discovered, thanks to your work, things I didn't know about the rough edges around this game and was given context as to why things were released the way they were. That's all I wanted to say. Thank you for coming to my TED talk and may our paths cross again. Happy gaming to all.

I'll always have a soft spot for Deadlocked. It and UYA were my first multiplayer console games once I finally got a PS2 slim. Was such a great PvP game

As a kid my best friend and I ran through this game over and over. I did play a bit of Up Your Arsenal but got stuck and never finished it but Dreadnaught was the only Ratchet and Clank game I played all the way through(over and over too) growing up.

I first played this game on a demo disc back on ps2, and it was immediately my favorite in the series, I only very recently got a chance to play the full game and it still holds up

This game is my first exposure of the Ratchet & Clank games. Used to own the standalone demo back then.

I loved Deadlocked when it was released. I knew at the time that it was very likely they weren't going to put out yet another Ratchet title that was exactly like the first 3(I was experiencing this formula fatigue the devs talked about after playing 3 entries in such a short timespan) so I was excited that they did something different and it didn't disappoint. It was released the same year Resident Evil 4 was on the PS2 which also was known for breaking the formula of the franchise.

Deadlocked still is my favorite, was the most brutal, most customization, and I loved how you could pick any mission infinitely.

I really ended up liking Deadlocked more than I thought I would at first when I first played it. Going Commando has always been my favorite. But Deadlocked was just an awesome game overall. I also cant believe that they added Co-Op. It was and still is honestly my most favorite feature, It made the game so much more fun for me. I hope that if the original games ever get remade properly, That Deadlocked is included and has online Co-Op.

Known as Ratchet Gladiator in the UK. I loved this one as a kid, don't get me wrong, I loved R&T 1-3, but this one was mostly pure action, and I replayed it many times

This is still one of best Ratchet and Clank games with ability to customise your own weapon. From adding more accuracy to acid mod etc. In addition, it nearly perfected the combat system of hit and dodge than its predecessor without press L2 or R2 to strafe (yes there was options for camera lock for older games but it worked quite terrible in my experience) Also one of few games allowed me to have active companions without sacrificing the flow of combat. Clank mostly acted as Ratchet's backpack to pack items and jetpack alterations to glide over the terrains or dash in combat.

Wow for once the youtube Algorithm actually made me find a channel about a Ratchet deadlocked Retrospective. I couldn't be happier about that as this channel has a great production value in editing, is very well thought and very entertaining from start to finish. I'm definitely looking forward to what you have next up in the future, but this time as a subscriber

I feel like this game doesn't get talked about enough. As a kid, this was my favorite Ratchet & Clank game. I loved the arena combat and the humor was amazing. I hope we get something like this again in the future. I feel like the new games just lack the cheeky humor

When you started the video saying it is a blacksheep of the series I was surprised. I LOVE deadlocked and think it is a very solid entry in the series. All the flaws you pointed out are technically correct, but I also think it is important to consider what applies to ALL games. Which is, is it fun? Does it do what it meant to? Imo in an action game, repetitive content isnt a big deal, I want to shoot and blow shit up. This game delivers, and the comedy totally hits for me. The fact the game is a bit shorter, doesnt bother me. It is already repetitive, what it really have been better to have 4 more hours? I dont think so, and my buddies and I farmed the game to 100% completion. Since we wanted to blow stuff up, doing the challenges are finding good ones to far bolts etc was super fun. IMO this game totally did what I wanted.

I just recently found the receipt for this game when I bought it in 2005. Unfortunately it was so faded that it was barely legible I really loved this game, it's the first time I got max bolts in a R&C game playing it over and over again. Loved the flail weapon (whatever it was called) a lot because you could just spam it and destroy everything. I should really play the PS3 HD version

i loved glitching the hardest challenge mode to regular first game! it was such an amazing challenge! this has to be my top fave game of all time! and i wish i could find more games closely similar to this one, the edginess, the combat, everything was just amazing! perhaps my second fave ratchet game was crack in time, but deadlocked... i still boot up my old ps2 just to play this game sometimes! even if ive played hundreds maybe even close to a thousand hrs by now! the music in this game was just so amazing too!

On the topic of Torval, I don't think it was meant to be Ace's homeworld, rather just the location of an abandoned Ace Hardlight Merchandise Factory.
