1st youtube video - The beginning of Tried Tested and Rated
For the middle class in South Africa, Haval might just be an introduction into the SUV life. This is due to the brand being advertised as an affordable premium product with the kind of features that you get in top specced vehicles of competitors.
I say competitors on purpose because one might argue that chinese vehicles have not really been competing in South Africa due to built quality not being enough to convince the brand loyal consumers of this country.
Haval, however, is an outlier compared to the offerings we used to get from China. Can one really ignore that they are pushing sales numbers upwards of 900 per month as per Naamsa records? National lockdown may have slowed that down but immediately after the hard lockdown they were already upwards of 700 units. I am sure this is not a fluke as the brand has been here for a little more than 3 years (The brand was introduced by GWM in 2017).
it's fair to say it is still a baby in South African market, however, 3 years is ample time for consumers to gauge, complain, criticise and even make peace. With this brand, 3 years was enough to get people talking and to see the brand outselling the likes of tried and tested brands such as Mazda and BMW in some months (according to NAAMSA records at least) can only indicate that they are on the right track in a country very loyal to the tried and tested formulas.
Rating System:
1. Fail
2. Borderline
3. Functional
4. Good (Above what its supposed to do/achieve)
5. Exceptional
My opinions are influenced by the time and experience I had with the vehicle in my hands and that is based purely on one unit, not multiple.
How do I find it? Check it out...
