Hi, a North African here. I'm from Algeria but we really don't have it for breakfast (maybe once in a blue moon). At least in the region where I am from. I lived with Algerians from different Algerian districts when I studied abroad, literally none of them had it for breakfast. Don't get me wrong, I actually love shakshouka, but not as breakfast. I prefer it as a quick light lunch/dinner and I know that many Algerians have it that way sometimes. Instead, for breakfast, Algerians tend to predominantly have coffee or coffee milk with some French pastries or French baguette with jam and butter. Others may include some fruit, boiled eggs, traditional homemade bread or dried fruit such as dried figs. Others would have some traditional olive oil with traditional bread, while others would include pure honey in their breakfast. It actually depends on the region and the food type that's a staple in its diet. Many Algerians have no breakfast at all, including me!

I'm Egyptian and it's one of my favorite dishes, brings back memories I remember when I get home from school or whatever and we have shakshuka, I would be absolutely excited because it's the only dish my dad cooks and he puts his heart into it since he learned it from from grandma ( may god rest her soul)

Can definitely relate to that feeling. Even though I'm not Egyptian, i remember my mom making this sometimes, and if she didn't, the local breakfast Cafe we used to go to definitely did it justice. Overall it just brings me back, and just thinking about it gets me really happy. Peace and love friends!

In Turkey we make a dish similar to this one called menemen. What we call shakshuka has eggplant instead of eggs. I never knew about this recipe but it looks delicious 😋

I've never thought of adding eggs....that looks good! 🤩 thank you! I do grainy bread toasted with smooshed up avocado and the most important part is a thin web of honey over it. It's healthy , yummy, cheap, and fast.

We prepare a similar dish in Greece too with fresh tomatoes and scrambled eggs. We mix them all together and we also put pepper, salt fetta cheese,if you want oregano, generally you can add any herbs you want according to your taste. We usually eat it during spring or summer months but not as breakfast. It's a quick recipe which you can cook also for lunch or dinner. Very delicious and nutritious!!!! We call it "kagiana".
