Pro Tip: as you gain more sensors that are somewhat passive, you can save a lot of space by only showing the stuff that's an anomaly. For example, you don't care if all your rooms are prettymuch at the temp you want them to be. You *do* want to know if one room is out of normal range, so set up your dashboards to just show those problems.

Call me old but I'm still a fan of LCARS 😀Growing up that was the future and a dashboard that shows that style reminds me we have arrived in a lot of ways. Since all of my friends are of the same age, it resonates with them when they come over too. But I love seeing how other people approach the same problem of controlling their home automation - just proves there's no right answer to it all. Looking forward to seeing others for more inspiration.

I know LCARS is looking dated now, given the era of Star Trek, but it is true to the LCARS design and quite functional. Thanks for showing off a whole heap of dashboards. There are so many great ideas. I know the Smart Home should be automatic, but dashboards or switches are always needed for guests or for the times you need to override an automated feature.

I would say that for me personally, dashboards are "Home Control" not Home Automation...but that's not to say that Home Control isn't useful, for example for guests or a situation where an automation isn't practical - we all need to use a dashboard at some point, do why not make it look cool?
@suttyct
Жыл бұрын
@@EverythingSmartHome further to this I also think Dashboards offer a way to display valuable information (analytics if you will) in a very easy to read method, for example, home energy monitoring, having the ability to look at a dashboard and see how much your house is using and from where that usage is coming. Think a dashboard can bring clarity on what your smart home is doing. Even if a house is fully automated, having a dash for edge case control and information is great.

Ok Berkan's dashboard where you said it pushed the controls down, I think you're missing one good usability point. When I'm on my phone I want my controls towards the bottom so that I can hit them with my thumb comfortably. Looking at that screen shot there were only a few controls so it looked like it was on purpose and filled the screen out more while putting the controls in a more usable place.

As someone who's recently JUST installed Home Assistant and connected a couple of ESP's for testing... I don't REALLY know what else to throw in there. Long story short I live in a rental and I am NOT able to control stuff like heating and all that, but I will likely do some DIY sensors and controls with the ESP's and maybe control some Hue lights down the line. But yeah as far as I've understood you're not REALLY supposed to control all of it on-the-fly right? I mean sure, lighting and potentially activate like a "cinema mode" that'll roll your blinds down and the the lighting, but it doesn't make sense to be able to control AC, heating and the door lock from your phone. Those things should be automated and at best should be controlled via a dashboard on your PC? Yeah okay, matbe the ability to lock/unlock your house, but I think you get my point. automation is the key, which... is probably what you all REALLY like about Leon's dash... It's mostly just lighting control, which is probably what you need to control. Definitely what I would be aiming for down the line.
@EverythingSmartHome

Totally depends on the person I guess - controlling stuff on mobile (if done well) is very useful and I personally don't see an issue with it, but like I mentioned in the beginning, automation is certainly preferential!

Just a note - If your heating is done via central heating and you can read up on how electricals work and how your boiler works, you can likely make it smart. I rent and mine is. All a thermostat does it connect 2 wires to tell the boiler to switch on generally (unless its opentherm). Sometimes it's low voltage, sometimes its main voltage. I use a Shelly switch as it has dry contacts to connect the low voltage boiler control wires to turn the heating off & on based on thermometers I have scattered through home. Depends how comfortable you are with wiring and knowing that what you are doing isn't going to damage the boiler (i.e. connecting mains voltage to a boiler expecting low voltage, you're going to blow a quickblow fuse in the boiler).

There isn't really a "supposed to" or "should be"... It's your house, your budget, your lifestyle, your needs. I personally don't feel the need to automate anything at all at this stage. My original reason for downloading HA was simply to monitor the water level in our house water tank after the kids kept leaving a tap on and emptying the tank overnight. But now I want to log solar, make some weight sensors for monitoring the chook food and water levels, etc.

@EveryOne! In almost every dashboard screenshots in different HA-related videos I used to see temperature values like 19°C / 66°F ... or in this video in Abel's livingroom it shows 14°C (57°F) Guys!, did you really keep your house at those temperature during everyday life??? For me, it looks insane.. My country is in the middle of continental clymate in europe, so we have winter with temparatures between -10°C and +3 °C (14°F and 37°F), and we have summer about between 25°C (77°F) and 35°C (95°F).. Are you feel 14°C or 19°C as a pleasant temperature? In Lewis's videos I used to see temparature values around 19°C and he is sitting in a T-shirt.. Currently I'm sitting in my livingroom where the temperature is kept around 23°C +/- 0,5°C (~73F) and I'm wearing a hoodie jumper, or a T-shirt when temperature rises to around 23,5 - 24°C (74-75°F). I'm seriously cuorius: Have i any problem with my temperature sensing or just you prefer cooler environment? Is my temperature-sensing abnormal and should I try to get used to feel myself compfortly in some degrees colder Thanks if anybody answer me in this topic..
@xeon2k8
Жыл бұрын
im so bored that im gonna answer this lol. Temps here where i live are same-ish as yours. While working 8 h sitting on my desk without moving i wear only shorts all year round(yeah i know i should wear more clothes and lower the temp, im going to hell anyway), and temp on the water heating is exactly at 22C +/- 0.5 (sometimes when the wind is strong and cold temp i raise it to 23 or 23.5C). I sleep with the heating in the bedroom at about 19-18C and it's auto turned off in the early morning so it goes down to about 17C and i can feel that if leave my arm out of the blanket for a good while then it's getting freaking cold. So tldr, i think 19C is not comfortable for most people wearing only a t-shirt, a hoodie should be enough though.

I think your ranking system is a little broken - how could Leon be a 10 and Idan's be 9.5? that makes zero sense... Idan's it's a 4, at best. I know you're trying not to offend anybody but I really think you should be real and apply the same criteria Leo's 10 is well deserved, but Maxwell's is pure 1, at best... it's awfull.
