There is a story out today about a man removing a venous snake from a child care center in Australia. He was bitten by the snake, but instead of going to the hospital, he drove home. At home, he went into cardiac arrest and was beyond help by the time the ambulance crew arrived.

Yes. Why an ambulance wasn't called immediately is beyond me. Bitten three times on the arm by an eastern brown snake, the second most venomous snake in the world after the inland taipan. Brown snakes are quite common in populated areas here in Australia.

That man is a fool. Must’ve had a death wish. I’m an American and am smart enough to know that a bite from an eastern brown is a life threatening emergency. Man is a snake catcher in Aussie land, took 3 bites from an Eastern Brown, didn’t go to the hospital? Makes no sense. You wrap the affected appendage with a pressure bandage immediately. Then high tail it to the hospital. Or better yet, have someone drive you or call an ambulance. One would think an Aussie snake catcher would know that he had just got bitten by the second most venomous snake in the world, 3 times. He should have known basic first aid.

2:20 - This very frightened, obviously aggravated, and extremely defensive snake has just been dumped upside-down out of a bucket, not knowing where it is or what's happening to it, yet notice how it *still* does not chase after and/or attack Nick. It merely stands its ground in case it needs to defend itself from the big, scary "predator" looming over it. I don't care who a person is, how old they are, how long they've lived in which place, or whatever their fallible human memory makes them *think* they saw on the trail ten years ago... If someone claims that rattlesnakes "chase people," they are certifiably full of crap. XD

I'm in CA high Mohave Desert. Wow we've got weeds everywhere and high grass😢 I need to get someone up here to weedwack. I'm having mobility issues this year. Bummer!!! I've not encountered a rattler but lots of gopher snakes. Even got bit one summer. Probably a red racer. But this spring I'm a bit worried.

Do you wash the venom off your tongs and bucket transport lids? I have an old pair of tongs with 20 plus years of dried venom and I keep them in my car for rescues but have wondered if this could be a contributor to rattlesnake venom allergies? Bryan, What do you think?
@StephenCinAZ
4 ай бұрын
I hope you don't mind me chiming in, but I regularly work with rattlesnakes myself, and my colleagues and I are always careful to wash stray venom off of tongs, tubes, buckets, etc. for precisely the reason you've stated here. The more you're exposed to something like snake venom, the more likely you are to become sensitized to it and develop a potentially severe allergy.

@@StephenCinAZ Thank you! With all the recent data on venom allergies I started taking notes I plan to clean my old tongs today! Transport containers and hooks are cleaned regularly and towels washed usually at the end of each snake season. I do have a couple epi pens.

We get the venom off of everything as soon as we can. Having all that drying dust around is a good way to develop an allergy and make a potential bite MUCH more dangerous!

I love those establishing/transition(?) aerial drone shots. Damn, Phoenix is pretty. You don’t see all the rattlesnakes from up there. Someone literally said “looks like a bitchin’ place to build a town, right here smack-dab in the desert!”, so they did. And then you guys, as a result, are forever in business. It isn’t like the place is overrun with cute little bunnies or ducks. Just rattlesnakes. 😁

I just passed my part 107 license, so we will be incorporating more drone footage in the future, though stuff I shoot myself instead of purchased or commissioned! The drone has also been already useful to actually find rattlesnakes and gila monsters, so it's a lot of fun.

There are a lot of different sounds that seem to creep up in our consciousness. That rattle is not to be taken for granted. A fair warning. I say that because I live in a neighborhood where train horns and commercial airplanes fly(land) daily. But those sounds are so normal the scare factor is diminished. For your clients the rattle of a rattlesnake is not to be ignored!

During Marissa’s segment there’s a Timelapse of the night sky and it’s packed with stars. Are views like that possible any time of year in the desert? Or, just at certain times? Not necessarily a snake question, but hope it’s okay to ask.

Where I live, there are Rattle Snakes, not a lot, like in Arizona but we have more Copper Head Snakes and other kinds of Venomous Snakes. And I am not sure on what Type Rattle Snakes, I been told there are Timber Rattle Snakes in my area, I haven't seen one, but anytime I go hunting I try to be careful before I sit down. Are Timber Rattle Snakes More Likely to be in woods or are they More likely to be in Rocks like it is in Arizona ?
@virgildailey1970
4 ай бұрын
Timber rattlesnakes are more likely to be in a sparsely populated area with hardwoods. Especially if lots of rocky bluffs. Hardwoods=acorns=squirrels. Squirrels are a major food source for timber rattlesnakes. Canebrakes can be found in swampy wetlands.
