Rave undoubtedly is the most "anything goes" style ever.

Came here to say the same. For years I assumed these came from a synth preset. Like you say, mind blown.

This channel is class btw! And now that I know ur Scottish please tell me how the offbeat stab from the onto of Scott Brown & Rab S - now is the time was made 🙏 been trying with fm synthesis but failing!

You could ask Patrick Prins because that's where Scott sampled it from! (Bits n Pieces). I think it's an octave stacked sax sample going through saturation.

@@RaveyStabs Young? If only. Yes, my lack of uploads has been playing on my mind for weeks now. Wish I had the cash for an MC707. That'd get rid of the Ravers Block for sure ha ha.

pure gold stuff rite here!!! Cheers from Finalnd :) You happened to know where's the famous string stab is taken from sample cd or the actual track. It's famous in hardhouse and one the earliest I know of who has used it is South East Players - Horny Drum Machine you find it here in youtube. Would be nice to know this I have so many tracks and have heard many more that have used this same stabby kind of string sample.

This is wicked Mate!! Love it!!!! Does Ableton have a multi note equivalent or is there a VST stacker?
@RaveyStabs

Not sure as I haven't used ableton much (found Bitwig easier). Any MIDI effect that can do octave stacking or custom chords from single notes would do the job. Bitwig tends to have a lot of these nice little MIDI devices.

Just found your channel. Loving this content on Christmas Eve! I'm guessing this is the technique Orbital used on Chime?

Thanks. Yes I think they would've applied the same principle and took small fragments from an existing piece to create the main stabs inside a hardware sampler. Most hw samplers allow sample start adjustment so you can similarly find sweet spots, albeit on perhaps a smaller sampled piece due to memory constraints of the time.
