Eh idk this game has some massive flaws . The combat is bland and repetitive the different weapons don’t feel unique in any way. The enemies are all basically identical as fas as attacks . The time vs reward is quite frankly awful. The mama system is unnecessary and adds a layer that feels like the game just doesn’t want you to have fun. And last the game legit punishes you as you play . Don’t get me wrong if you like it more power to you but this game is far from easily fixable

Kinda the opposite, all the issues the game has are very hard to fix, since it's in the core of the game. The systems are amazing and fun, it's just that the combat and movement is very trash, and that's the hardest thing to change, systems are very easy to tweak with or fully reconstruct.
@daniiiiboii72

@@Mycrosss I actually think that the biggest problem the game has is that it seems SUPER repetitive. like the cards in this game are the laziest shit I've seen in a Rougelike so far, they're all just +attack, +defense +mana ect. not actual abilities (like in hades) or stuff that changes your moveset in a major way (like in Isaac). That, the enemy varierty and the fact that the outpost where u fight enemies all seem super boring and copy pasted makes me believe that the game is fun at first but gets boring REALLY quick. (ofc I havent played the game myself but thats what it looks like to me after 2 videos I've seen of it)

The random Vessel character at each run has been seen before. Personally I don't mind it, since it will "force" you to try out weapon styles. Arboria did the same, where a set of random trolls would be possible to spawn. Some could even have negative traits, but it just made for a different style when progressing.

update from September 2023: Raven Mode Since Ravenbound’s launch, we received a lot of feedback from you about the difficulty of traversing the map on foot. We mentioned previously that we felt ground travel was necessary to help give depth to the scale of the world, and attempted to help alleviate some of the difficulty with more Raven Towers around the map. That said, we have continued to listen to your feedback regarding this matter, and with this update, we have made changes to allow you to transform into a raven wherever you are outside, as long as you are not locked in combat.

Actually, even with those problems, the game looks incredibly fun to play. Yeah, the RNG might be annoying but it's part of the game. Thanks for the review!

Random character selection has been quite common in rogue-lite games, exactly because it makes you try new things. I think while it makes people less likely to play, the ones who do will have much more fun and longer playtime overall.
@RED_XLR
Жыл бұрын
@@LuaanTi That is not true. Yes it is true that roguelikes are prolly the only game that may have random characters sometimes. But the vast majority of roguelikes i've played have 1 character that you tailor differently depending on your run. I.E you find the weapons during the runs just like skills, to make a build with. Or they let you choose a class (that is constant and nor rng) with different passive set of abilities and weapons, and then you find the random traits or whatever in the runs. Never has any of the ones i've played had a random character generator with random weapons to boot. The only one i've played remotely similar to this is Rogue Legacy which has random characters with random quirks but the chars themselves don't look too different and always sport the same weapons, only their 1 or 2 passives slightly changes how the game works/feels/plays. Nothing as hugely impactful as weapon select or the way the characters look. Idk maybe this was a problem at some point and the devs notice people didn't like it, because most of the ones i've played let you choose characters or ways to build very different feeling type of classes for the 1 character. Which not only gives more build variety, skill expression, but also gives choice for the player, which ends up being more fun. And some games even let you unlock a ton of characters that you can permanently choose after you do so, and it's not RNG.

A lot of the criticism you have of the game has recently been addressed! Most notably, you can choose your vessel race, trait and weapon style for free at the start of a run. They're is now a decently sized talent tree that gives you passive upgrades for long term progression. You still can't turn into a raven at will, but they did add a lot more platforms, so it is a little less painful. All in all the game is improving for sure!

For anyone checking out this game now thinking of buying it, heres a recent steam review about the devs fixing many of the issues with the game; "I just came back to try Ravenbound out after not touching it since release day, and just about every problem with it has been addressed and improved. Required 3rd party account and always online This was I feel the biggest problem at launch, requiring a constant online connection and a 3rd party account before you can even get to the main menu I'm sure turned many away, and the justifications given for it were weak, which is even more apparent now that they've removed those requirements and made them optional. I still don't believe there's a good reason for not using using steam's tools for the online features in favor of their own, and doesn't change that it was a terrible decision, but at least it's better now, I guess? There is a small positive gameplay impact for using the online feature that I'll expand on in a bit. Awkward combat balance and power progression Used to be the most effective way to deal with fights was to mash dodge when enemies are attacking and spam your own when they aren't. The s were generous enough that spamming dodge made you nearly untouchable. This also made later fights take a lot longer, because while you were clearing camps and empowering shards, you'd start getting more Hatred (the mechanic that buffs all enemies by a % permanently) and would be quickly outscaled when trying to increase your own power. So for me, enemies would end up having massive health pools, but could never touch me, so I'd just give them papercut damage until I got bored enough to reset. Now, all that has been reworked. Each stage gives you 6 hatred free chests and/or shards, and there's more variety to the hatred cards you can pull, so it's not just a flat stat increase for enemies if you want to chance opening a chest. The online player graves used to also give you hatred when you open them, but now they're basically a free card you can claim, which are not available if you don't use the online feature. So it looks more like an incentive to use their 3rd party account, which while I feel is still dumb, you can get some utility out of it. They also added a limit to dodges that have a relatively short refresh, but still gives you a reason to use the shield if you can't dodge. That would have been annoying before, because the shield had such a short lifespan and could run out even if you weren't blocking a hit, but it's been changed to instead absorb a set amount of damage before it pops, and is tied to your new posture bar. Enemies also have posture, and maxing it out opens them to a heavy damage attack (and seems to affect any enemy within the hitbox, which is fun with crowds.) Weapons also have a special attack with a cooldown now. The raven problem Almost forgot, you traverse the map mostly by turning into a raven and flying really fast. At first you had to find a "raven tower" and run through it to take flight. People were annoyed and felt it inconveniently slowed the game too much. They tried adding more towers. Doesn't seem like it helped much, because now they've finally let you transform in and out of the raven at will if not in combat. It looks like they took a lot of feedback to get the game to this point, and it honestly feels far better. If it had released in this state, I think it could have done a whole lot better. But honestly, I still think it could have had more attention if they didn't require their 3rd party account to play when it launched. Seriously, nobody wants that, nobody asks for that. Don't do that again."

Wouldn’t it be nice if RNG were thought a bit more like, if you have a bad turn, your next will be a good turn, just to balance it out, or perhaps a setting to allow people who love to gamble to experience the woes or excitement, being wowed or thrown into the deep end with truly bad. 😂 Heck, even just let you keep a bit of what you found from the previous run, like choose 10% to start with. Something!!! So when you have a good run, you grow in your progression, not just the chance to find it.. then bad luck.

The problem are mostly related to design choices, which arent really fair to call issues. Better to simply say you dont like the game they made, with the choices as they are. Hi. I played around 10h of it myself till now and agree with all of your points. However 1, you got wrong! There is no RNG with Mana! There is a very specific system that is sadly a bit tedious and could be improved on. You get indirectly informed of it in the Tutorial, but I too missed it and only noticed the system behind when I gained mana after maybe my 5th run. As there are gold and normal chest there are also Mana Chests. These gurante that you either get no choice but picking mana or you get 3 standart choices one of which is always mana. What I dont like is when I have gotten a card I want to equip but got no mana, I HAVE to do fly bys and check which kind of chest any one camp has. There are more then enough mana chest on any map but they are spread and it becomes a tedious search. P.s there are small camps that systematically dont have a chest. They are mostly a groupe of 3 humans somewhere on the road. About the crashes, I too had some with high end set up but it happens often for me when I slot my first double Relic. Though the developers make it so that you get set back shortly before the crash and you never loose anything or die. If you crash while doing an action. Be it choosing a card or during comabt you get a free heal or free card and enemys get killed. So if you really want to, you could abuse it to kill the bosses or become a god but then why are you playing the game even *shrug*

there is such a thing as to much random. i agree with thelazypeon, character selection sould never be random in these games. you need some kind of control, but i also feel like there is no room for long term improvement from a progression stand point, because being able to surpass randomness is important through time and if you cant do that there is no point in playing these games. there is no incentive to play these games long term, if its pure random each time. the game decides your fate at this point and there's no way to overcome it. this is my experience with these games. these games can be super poorly balanced to the point were doing the best you have with what you are given is not an option, because some options are objectively better then others.

The closest thing that is known is that fragments on the ground will not respawn if you exit or crash before picking them up. This is why game UX specialist is a job that every game development company needs. Not just the studios that keep making fantastic games. Come on guys, who the hell wants to deal with a locked in character creation, or a punishing open world.

Becoming a Raven is the coolest thing this game has. Wish more games did that, but it should just let you turn into one whenever lol

Rogue legacy does the same, where u get traits and rols with RNG, and i find it great. The game forces u to not choose the op and explore other options. The game looks great.

Hmm, there are camps that do not have chests at all, mainly those that spawn on roads. Perhaps that is what you ran into?
