Luke Hotchkiss And so what do we do then? Do we do nothing? Do we continue to let innocent people die from malicious gun violence? You said only a few people die from assault weapons on average every year, but are those few lives not worth saving? What, because something won’t solve the problem in its entirety then we shouldn’t even bother? Is that your point??
@lukehotchkiss2022
4 жыл бұрын
@@Albert_Hu no, my point is we shouldn't ban a rifle that is the third most popular home defense firearm in this country and the most popular recreational rifle over 20 annual deaths. There are many reported instances of the ar15 being used in self defense, and I'm sure there are many others. And please don't call them assault weapons, assault weapon is a completely made up word based off of the word assualt rifle, and ar 15s are not assault rifle. On of the defining characteristics of an assault rifle is being select fire, the ability to change between shooting semiautomatic(1 round per trigger pull) and fully automatic(gun shoots automatically until trigger is relaesed) , and ar 15s are only semi automatic. Ps, the ar stands for armalite rifle, not assault rifle or automatic rifle.

It’s a good question! I think that the legislation MAY have helped, but the act of having a political discussion on gun safety, unlawful usage and rightful purchase of guns would have helped in the long run for sure! I think that prevention of these events is a combination of legislations, people asking for change and the people/politicians perception on gun culture. But hey, you gotta start somewhere, maybe that legislation could have been the first step.

Please explain to me how a gun law is going to stop a bad guy from getting a hold of a gun. There have been guns in this country for hundreds of years and we've only seen an increase of mass shootings over the last 10 to 15 years. The problem isn't guns. The problem is that we have too many mentally disturbed people roaming around thinking that they can do whatever they want without any consequences. You have more children today growing up in a single parent household without both parents present. There are more teens and young adults today who are depressed because of social media. More children, teens, and young adults are socially isolated than ever before. The problem isn't guns. The problem is society. The problem is social media. The problem is children not facing consequences for their actions. If gun control is the answer, then why didn't Obama do anything about guns when he was president? Why hasn't Biden done anything about guns? Why does the responsibility only fall on republicans?

Guns are objects. They don't hold much value until they are in the hands of people. Guns are not more valuable than people but, without arms, people are mostly defenseless against anything that could be forced on them or taken away. So, in a way, guns give people as a whole more value in the eyes of anyone who would try to do this. It may not seem like it now, but our right to keep and bear arms could very well be the difference between life and death. Perhaps, it already has been (as a deterrent). Without the means to defend ourselves, we are herd animals vulnerable to slaughter (or a number of other things). Imagine a medieval-era scenario in which common people were armed with weapons. Would the monarchs be happy about this? Probably not, because it increases their value as human beings to the point that it rivals their own. So, in closing, no we do not value guns more than people. We value our right to defend ourselves because that maintains our value as human beings.

So the two wars he inherited he left of military there. The he bombed/drone five more countries (Pakistan, Somalia, Yemen, Libya and Somalia). He didn’t just bomb Libya, he destroyed it and now it’s nothing but warring factions. He basically abdicating and decision-making and let the generals and the Military industrial Complex run the show. He let one of the banks select the members of his entire cabinet when taking office. His great ACA was written by Health Insurance companies. He was a do-nothing President whose only focus was orating on social issues. His son would’ve looked like Trayvon. He was a terrible President for all the reasons I listed. Most people just saw the articulate and suave guy, and didn’t look past it which I guess was fine. That represents an improvement over 2016’s numbers, but the sheer scale of the Chicago-style carnage remains striking. New York saw a 5.6 percent decline in murders this year through October - to 286, down from 303 - but the Windy City recorded 625 murders over the same time, despite having a population one-third the size of New York’s. this speech was made when i was 5, about 4 months after sandy hook happened. i'm now 15 and there was another shooting in an elementary school last week. to see that no change has been made through the years, spanning a decade while i've gone from starting kindergarten to ending my freshman year of high school is disappointing and disheartening, to say the least. in so much time we've had absolutely no change and that breaks my heart and my mind. in no world is this acceptable, nor should it be. we as children can't vote for our own safety so we leave it to adults to help us, yet we've consistently been failed. try to change that in the upcoming midterm elections. i don't want to suffer through this anymore, but the same adults who won't let me vote apparently don't want me live till the age when i can.

After Sandy Hook the NRA and Republicans proposed a bill to secure the schools to protect them from someone entering and harming them. The Democrats voted the bill down.
