Wow! Do you know anything about the whereabouts of the "little place they called the Curtis (it sounds like...) Mill" ? where she says she was born. In Alexander County... I have people from Wilkes County very close to the Alexander line...Not far from Linny's Watermill on Rocky Creek.

I have family that I never met with the last names of triplet spell different ways and Ferguson and Todd. I remember they came out of some of those towns in the 17 and 18 hundreds.

These people most of my family we’re like them and I’m very proud very proud of it. The older ones in both sides of my family are all about gone now. It hurts my heart to say that but they are. I guess you could say that my generation is the last of a dying breed. I was told that one time that by a man that was a friend of mine. We were talking about our family that had passed away and he told me that I was the last of a dying breed.

I met many old timers who took me to this location, to Stanley Hicks home where I spent time with his son, a time long gone still is found on the old roads of Beech Mountain. Charlie Glenn and his wife Shirley, Clifford Glenns wife Maybelle and others. One of the most fascinating days of my life. Old time banjos and dulcimers were played and heard on these old dirt roads on "The Old" Beech Mountain.

How hard is it to learn to play a Dulcimer? My dad bought one at dollywood back in the late 1990's. He thought my son would learn to play it. I want to learn to play it when I move back to mount carmel,tn. My good friend Greg Sykes is a good blue grass player. His son Nathan Sykes plays in some bluegrass bands in northeast Tennessee. Nathan was doing a weekly bluegrass radio show from a bristol,tn radio station.

Oh, my! Oh, my! What a thoroughly delightful surprise! I was looking for something about another Beech Mt. old timer and came upon this. You can't imagine what a joy this was. We knew Ray for several decades and met Stanley on a number of occasions - even met Bunie once or twice. I'll have to figure out a way for Rosa, Ray's widow, and Lenard and Ted to see this, if they haven't already (courtesy of ETSU). This has made our day. (Ann & Doyle Pace)

If anyone still reads books, The Foxfire series, compiled during this same period, interviews the elders of Appalachia, and gives detailed instructions on everything from building cabins, music instruments, and birthing to burying people, as was practiced by our European ancestors who first came to these mountains.

I have hix/hicks bloodlines going way back to Virginia in the late 1600's into very early 1700's. There are also hicks buried at union church of christ off of cherokee road just south of Johnson city,TN. My Denton grand parents and great grandparents are also buried at that union church of christ along with several Scott family folks.
