I saw this guy live many years ago. The performance completely matched the music. Just a guy sitting alone on a undecorated stage with a guitar. He seemed so timid and shy in between his song the "thank you" was almost inaudible at the applauding audience before starting the next song. I sat there as every part of my life was melting together in that chair listening to his songs and I felt a sheer bliss I have never felt before or since. Life made sense in those 90 minutes.

My love played this for me a long time ago. God do I miss him so unbelievably!!! We communicated through music. It was hard for him to express his emotions plus he was carrying some big burdens and deep scars. I realize now that not only was this expressing his heart but he was telling me that it's what he saw in me as well. We are separated working on ourselves to heal what will break us apart again. My soul feels completely lost without him. We both had to find our worth again and or at all. Life and people took our unconditional love for granted and that's ok because it led me straight to him. Where I have always belonged. He is my home.

I’ve been trying to figure out why Ray has the impact that he has on people, including myself. Obviously he is a radiant artist of honesty, soul and pain, he gives every part of himself to the audience and the tears drip from all of his songs. But from a craftsmanship perspective, he has a funny way of placing his words rhythmically in the scheme of his verses, that makes him quite unpredictable, and adds a unique cadence to his singing. Although his guitar playing is very campfireesce, in terms of chords, also there he surprises you with the timing of his chord changes. I started noticing this when I first tried to cover his songs. I thought they sounded easy and straight forward, but it wasn’t so at all. Especially the first verse of Jolene, is incredibly challenging to play and sing at the same time. I truly love this mans music, and am ever grateful for having discovered him, he’s been a huge inspiration to my singing and songwriting. Well, have a great day everyone, hope you found this useful, and I’d love to hear another perspective on my shallow analysis, especially if someone disagrees :)

Ray, I understand why you departed from this type of song. Its hard to feel this pain every night. But please bring it back to us. The world needs what you can give - your pain heals us. Its an extremely selfish ask, but please come back to us after Ouroboros.

I used to listen to this song with some kind of joy.Admiring a man who writes such stuff. Today,I come back. The song speaks to me in a whole different way. Each and every word is true and it rips me apart. I am not even a smoker and hell...This morning it was pouring down as if the clounds had such an urge to break it all down upon me.Today I am a man who for the first time feels the loss of a loved one,the way it is meant to be felt. She was my redemption and I've ravaged it all by letting her go for the same old reasons. If this doesn't pull it all together,I can't even imagine what will. And god...she really did not know what love meant.;)
