Ray Mears' survival..So relaxing and informative, so much more than the desperate run rush and "eat raw Anything there's alive..." Bear Grills's ways..(though they come from a different approach; getting out as quickly as possible..)!

The era of the trapper was very short, and certainly no trapper spent a l lifetime in the area trapping. . As to this land being uncharted, it was settled by native peoples and had been for thousands of years before any white man set foot there.

Wolves have destroyed the wildlife here in the Northern Rockies . The wolves run the deer and elk following the heavy scent until the deer has little fat left on its body and starves to death . Deer out here have very little to eat from October till May .

One is a herbivore and one is a carnivore so competition for food is non existent

Wolves are part of the natural ecosystem of the rockies. They keep deer and elk populations down (and moving where they survive), which prevents them from overgrazing any one area. You can see what happens when there are no wolves in places like the Scottish highlands, which should have a far richer ecosystem but in the absence of predators the deer population has exploded. This means trees like the Scots pine are eaten far too quickly when they're saplings, preventing their regrowth and creating vast barren landscapes on the Highlands. If wolves are pushing large herbivores to starvation during the winter in the rockies, that means those deer that die aren't eating all the food everything below them in the food chain depends on.
