Raymond Hainsworth, 78, and his wife Pat, of North Yorkshire, began collecting when their twin boys Ian and David were babies so the pair would have a train set to play with on their first Christmas. As their collection grew, Mr Hainsworth became dedicated to adding to it - and was still doing so two weeks before the auctioneers arrived to take it away. Among the set is a classic Noddy car (pictured) and an extremely rare black and white Dinky lorry which is expected to fetch more than £5,000 alone at the auction next week. Other pricey items include the 1950s Shackleton Dinky truck (inset left), worth £1,500, and four Dinky breakdown trucks (inset right), worth £100 each.
