Very lovely. Idk why people have a problem with her. The technique is good, she just made Raymonda more powerful and elegant looking than melty and soft. I like this a lot and think she did a wonderful job.

After Marie Agnès Gillot, she is the only dancer from OPB to have this kind of fire on top of a magnificent technique. I wish they had nominated her before she left for the States, maybe one Day, this variation suits her beautiful lines and firm character, bravo Mathilde !

I cannot disagree with you more. I won’t throw names in here, bc it’s my opinion, and I don’t engage in arguments about such ephemera....I don’t ever couch my opinions as absolutes, either, bc the arts constitute such a highly subjective world where “the best” doesn’t exist-it isn’t a horse race, for goodness’ sake-just a long list of superb artists, each with singular qualities of his/her own. The amazement for me is watching that individual expression come to life!

Je suis absolument fascinée par la perfection technique du haut du corps de Mathilde et par ses ports de bras particulièrement. Ses mouvements sont fluides et précis, vraiment, c'est sidérant.

Just to mention... Råmondá (aka Raymonda) is a ballet set in Hungary/Transylvania. It is Not a "Russian" ballet, though the Russians cultivated it as such (Petipa choreographed to Glazunov's score) at the end of the 19th century (and particularly during the Soviet-era). Many Russian ballet companies (Kirov/Bolshoi/Perm/Mariinsky/Chabukiani, etc... and Ballet Russe, etc...) staged the ballet many times, and it was brought to the West from those productions. However, it is a ballet set during the medieval-period when French knights were fighting for the Crusades (or more accurately the Austro-Hungarian empire against the Saracen-Turks) in the Danube and Balkan regions. The Ballet, and in particular this variation of Raymonda is also not Slavic (nor 'slavian') - It is based upon stories and dances from Hungarian and Transylvania-Gypsy dances because Raymonda is (suppose to be) a Transylvania Princess. That is why the Third Act is also referred to as: Pas Classique Hongrois (aka Pas de Dix) because of the Hungarian/Transylvanian origin of the story...

Well, the real art has no nationality, despite the fact that Petipa lived in France, worked mostly in Russia and had so many russian wifes and children. The first perfomance of Raymonda was in Mariinsky Theatre, St. Petersburg. So nothing wrong with that if actually somebody calls it russian masterpiece. Can you call Romeo and Juliet an english tragedy or maybe italian because of it origin? Maybe both of them.

come on ... the fifth position at the begining is (a sort of) insult to S. Guillem. Have a look at Noella Pontois she 's somehow as imperial as Sylvie Guillem.

+George Ou Noella Pontois is imperious in her characterization of Raymonda. See her YT solo variation. You can see the influence of Rudolf Nureyev, with whom she danced this particular performance.

You must be joking! This girl looks like a first grader compared to Sylvie. Sure, the choreography is the same, but nothing else is. The charisma, the presence, the consistency - nothing. Not to mention her technique is a pale copy of Sylvie's if any.
@Tellie021

Indeed she is a very good dancer but in my opinion she is much better in a "spanish" role like Don Quichotte than in a "russian" ballet like Raymonda. She doesn't have in herself the "deepth" or"dignity" of slavian culture. She is "warm" and "seductiv" like Spain

I dk why this dancer has so much starting and stopping in her dancing....she seems to have too many seconds between phrases where she’s not doing anything. The choreography seems to be different from what I’m used to, as well. Two of my favorite dancers in this role are Sylvia Guillem (kzitem.info/news/bejne/uqCN2H1roqaqeaw) and Tamara Rojo (kzitem.info/news/bejne/tLCkxap6o2uQdmU). This video is with Steven McRae, fabulous!

Sad, it isn't like the Paris Opera didn't give her a ton of opportunities to get to the next level. She just didn't rise to the occasion.
