A positive Razer review? Has hell frozen over? Actually, I have to say Razer have been improving lately. I have one of their most recent Blackwidows and it's a remarkable upgrade over their previous offerings. Hopefully, in due course, Razer might again be known for quality rather than bling. razer's on fire in later half of 2019, with the release of huntsman te, viper and viper ultimate. Even with some of the stuff that flew under the radar like tartarus pro, basilisk x, basilisk ultimate and pbt keycap kits. Really nice to see razer listening to the community. Personally never had quality issues with razer but i hope they can get their support sorted out too, the 2 year warranty was a great start

@@Chyrosran22 I have an clicky LK2 generation Bloody keyboard. Having tried a Razer Huntsman demo unit at a mall, I'd say they're pretty similar both in sound and feel. I didn't wanna look like a nutter, so I couldn't stick around it long enough to really feel what difference the stabilizers made, but I'd say that LK's in general feel super smooth but also not especially tactile, although still more tactile than MX Blues because the smoothness emphasizes the tactility a bit. They don't rattle like MX Blues because they use a different click mechanism that's suspended by its own tiny coil spring, but it's still a piece of plastic being launched downward, so it still sounds pretty high-pitched, plasticky, and really loud.

I bought this keyboard a little while ago and have been using it for just under a week. I definitely agree that it's a huge step in the right direction for Razer, as the switches feel infinitely better than anything else I've typed with in the past. I do agree that the actuation point on this is too high compared to the other keyboards I've used, but I've actually been able to adjust to this rather well in normal typing. Even after only a few days with it, I've already sort of trained myself to use a gentler touch with the keys I'm not actually pressing, and my error rate has dropped significantly. Using it for gaming, however, is a different story. The ways I move my hands to reach far-off binds like the Y key with my left index finger has seen me brushing T or G with just enough force to register a press. This is definitely something I personally could work around, but on the whole I think the actuation point should definitely be a little bit farther down if they're looking for more mass-market appeal. On a more humorous note, I remember reading about the optic-based switches on the box before I bought it and thinking, "hmm, I wonder if that's adjustable." Nope!

You are mistaken Thomas, all Cherry MX switches are stabilised with stabiliser rods. It's the vertical rod that the spring fits around. The main design point that the rest of the switch is designed around (otherwise they wouldn't bother with the extra hole in the PCB). Because Cherry MX has it's own stabiliser they don't need as tight tolerances to mitigate wobble, so they aren't prone to binding when dirty.
@Chyrosran22
4 жыл бұрын
The rod stabiliser isn't engaged in the steady state and wouldn't mitigate wobble. Again, this is not what stabilisers are for, you're confusing the two.
@theSolarisDragon
4 жыл бұрын
@@Chyrosran22 And further, no stabiliser is engaged at the steady state. Stabilisers are effectively anti-roll devices. And roll is wobble. Binding from off-centre key presses is where the key rolls far enough to stick inside the housing.

You get used to the higher key actuation eventually. Glad to see that tip I gave you about Dongguan Mingjian helped out. They're pretty low-profile and seem content to just let bigger companies rebrand their switches completely. They're pretty ingenious too, since as far as I can tell, the analogue switches they use on the Tartarus still work on the same basic design as the rest of their optical lineup, just modified to block varying amounts of light as the switch moves. Makes me wonder why Adomax bothered to jump over so many design and engineering hoops just to achieve this same effect.

Well, you don't technically need the keyboard to be analog capable to set the actuation point, you just need to provide little spacers to allow the user to move the optical switches further from the PCB. Optica switches being in two parts means that activation point adaptation reduses to placing those two parts closer or further.

The actuation point being really high is not just for the sake of marketing putting a number on the box it is genuinely something a 'gamer' would actually want. I have a keyboard that doesn't have a long actuation but it is long enough for me to miss button presses in my haste playing a game. It is a compromise but I wonder why they didn't make it adjustable in any way. Oversight or cost saving perhaps? It isn't just for the sake of marketing though there is a good reason even if it ultimately makes it a con in your eyes. I don't put very much on the keyboard unless I intend to press a key though I just barely touch the keys when resting on them. Great review just wanted to add some of my own thoughts to the pool.

Funny enough, I recently bought a switch tester for the Razer Optical Red, whereby when I used my fingernails to dislodge the stabilizer bar's ends from the stem's slots, I felt virtually no difference in wobbliness or smoothness, whereby it just felt like your usual Kailh BOX Red. And at 7:19, I'm pretty sure that's not the sound of the stabilizers, whereby it is most likely the collective rattle of all the keycaps or switch stems; I can hear the same on my old tT eSPORTS "Commander" which was specifically designed with rattly keys for a simulated clicky sound, though I actually liked it and its rubber dome feel; hilarious when I shortly transitioned back to it from two weeks on my new Azio with its clickies and suddenly felt like I was "typing on Topres" from what I could glean from the smoothness of my 45 g Topre RealForce switch tester.

For anyone doubting this razer keyboard, here is the thing! this keyboard for the optical red is not for typing at all! I have the huntsman elite TE (TKL edition) at First I did not like how it felt, but overall in my opinion do not make this your all in one keyboard for EVERYTHING!!!!! it's FOR FPS gaming or gaming in general! and oh does it feel silky smooth during gaming and I love it! I love it more than any Cherry MX key that I have ever used..... You get use to the optical red switches after sometime gaming! and its buttery smooth and your fingers and movement feel 1 to 1 on games like CS GO and valorant or any other games that require precise movement and the quick ability to double tap is great and I love it! But I have a Logitech G Pro X with GL brown switches for typing and work. I just swap between each keyboard between the two on depending on what I am doing. I cannot go back to a normal keyboard when gaming as it does not feel as responsive and the effort for movement etc when gaming is not as smooth as the optical red razer switches on my razer huntsman elite te

jonnolags well i haven’t had issues with 1.2mm actuation so this probably isn’t much of an adjustment for me :p

If you say optional switches are smooth af, then I'll take your word for it. My only issue is they're a bit loud for my taste. Do you think silent optical switches are possible? I'll definitely buy one of those.

Of course those are possible! :) they just don't exist yet afaik.

I love gaming on this keyboard due to the responsiveness but typing is a big challenge for me. I love the smoothness and how quiet it is, not a fan of the clicky sounds. Can anyone recommend an alternative to this that isn't so sensitive and is a bit more forgiving for those who do rest their fingers on the keys when typing?

I run this board as a daily driver with some mods like foam and lubed stabs and some replacement caps and the board feels great. This board is infinitely better than the Razer boards of old which I had always quite disliked.

This review pushed me off the fence in the direction of a purchase, and then made me turn around and hop right back on it. Maybe the tactile switch would be more suitable, but I was really looking forward to trying the reds. The sensitivity issue has me concerned.

I like setting the actuation point so high the keyboard types itself. Less wear on the switches.

Hello. I use the keyboard razer huntsman (purple switch). and when I play or print, I hear a metallic ringing. who has the same keyboard, do you have similar problems?
@Chyrosran22

This is plate and/or spring ping, it's quite common on mechanical keyboards.

@@BAMBR1069 If it's spring ping, you can fix it with a dab of lubricant. However, it's quite common for keyboards with metal plates, like this, to show pinging. This is not so easy to fix.

nice. ive gotten super tired of people shit talking this keeb without ever having tried it just cuz theres a stab in each key. not a design choice id make, but it doesnt hurt the switch much in practice. overall this is the direction we want OEMs to go in, wish the mech community would be more on board with it

Razor makers PBT keycaps for 30 USD. I like the sound and feel of them over the ABS. Very happy with my huntsman elite.

It isn’t exactly a keyboard, but the Tartarus Pro would be interesting as well. (Mainly for various productivity shortcuts and gaming)

It should be 10^60 since there are 10 levels for each switch. So total states are 10×10×10.... (60 times) which is 10^60 when all switches are pressed simultaneously.

I buy my new keyboard today is a Cooler Master CK550, with brown switches, it have both version with blue switches and browns, but i really don`t know if the Brown will be better then the blue, I will use the keyboard for play games and work also, I`m a programmer so a type a lot, some people told me that the blue switches are harder to pull so will make my hands and fingers more tired at end of the day, is that true folks ?

I just bought the Asus TUF Gaming K7 which has another brand of Opto-Mechanical switch and it's very smooth as well with similar clacking sound as the Razer. I now await a tactile version of the opto-electric switch without the click. I also have the regular Razer Huntsman which I bought used and it's been just as good. I still find myself using my HyperX Alloy Elite with Cherry MX Brown switches but were somewhat modified to feel better than the ones found on the likes of Corsair and Logitech (when they did carry MX switches).
