I remember back when these were popular, now these are just as old school as 8-Track tapes.

You're welcome. LDs had nearly the exact same technology as DVDs. The same is said for the players, so what caused their progress to falter? Was it their price? My dad owned a LaserDisc player and a bunch of LD movies.

Interesting. :) Nowadays, DVDs and Blu-Rays, and M-Discs too have better quality too!

@@Angie2343 The Laserdisc came before the DVD. DVD's introduced duel-layering technology, which eliminated the need to flip the disc over.

Laserdisc killed this. DVD killed them all, including the mighty VHS.

What sucks is that the VideoDisc was supposed to be released before VHS, but a number of technical problems with the player and legal issues within RCA meant that this thing was released after VHS was already established. It means that the VideoDisc was already dead when it was released.

I have the Zenith version of this player, and it will play video very well but without sound. I've read it's a very common problem with earlier units, and it often involves replacing the sound demod chip to get it working again.

Shit that was old school. but hell you cant beat the old vitage stuuf fun to collect and watch if gently used. some day they will become super antiques to where you can make thousands of dollars on the new age of trying to get it onto a silver disc thing.

These are so cool. Sadly this early version did not work well., No remote, RF out only and a lot of other features that came in later units later are missing. Also the Discs were nor reliable and unless you got a new one it probably jitters and skips.

@WhiteJarrah

Feed the video AV outputs on a CED player to the AV inputs on a DVD recorder. Pop in your CED, press play. Pop in a blank DVD, press record.

Do you have any insight on how to get one of these things to work? I got two of these for $25… One I think may have a burned-out motor for the reader arm? I don't know the terms exactly the arm that carries the needle? Lol... The other Reader arm in the other machine is totally seized up and I don't have a clue where the motor is to try to grease it up? I think the guy I bought it from said he gave up on trying to keep them working because they skipped the lot and stored them in his barn for a few years they power on and spin up but don't play
