I enjoyed the song being played on the V-225: "How Could You?," originally written by Harry Warren (music) and Al Dubin (lyrics) for Ann Sheridan to sing in the 1937 Warner Bros. crime drama "San Quentin." Of course the best record was by Billie Holiday with Teddy Wilson and his studio band on March 31, 1937. Billie took that silly line, "How could you, could you, could you break my heart?," and fixed it by removing one "could you" and syncopating the other two.

I noticed the PilotTuner FM add-on tuner on top of the 1941 console with the really cool and rare Magic Brain record changer. It was truly a helpful postwar way to add second gen FM tuning to the older consoles and radios.

Yes, It was curious to me that RCA never made an add on FM tuner in the same time period or even later on.

Upon thinking about the Ken Burns doc “Empire of The Air,” David Sarnoff was probably fighting with Armstrong over FM since he didn’t seem it necessary in 1941. It’s probably a good thing RCA didn’t make an FM add on in ‘41 since General Sarnoff got the FM band revamped after WWII. I recall Magnavox made a built in FM tuner add-on option that included the Armstrong band and the revised FM band. You have an enviable early console collection!

The great sound, and that mechanism and the cabinet ( skilled refinish or orig finish?) are all pretty astounding. I had to look up this disc, I was surprised it's Anson Weeks and his Orch, but I'd never heard of Margie Dee the vocalist. With so many wonderful phonos, how do you decide which one to play every day?

Not refinished. This is the 3rd one of these I have owned in the last 20 years. Most were and upgrade to a good cabinet. These RCA cabinets and finishes during this time period were extremely fragile. They do not survive being put into a basement or garage.

Nice video! Btw I saw your video of "Midnight The Stars and You" and wanted to ask if it would be available for sale? Thank you! :)

I actually just purchased this record in 2022 for the tidy sum of $350.00. This was the 2nd opportunity to purchase one of these and my decision was based on it was E+ grade to practically radios station condition. As of 2024 it has now gone up more in value. But I think I will hold onto it for the time being.
