For those that are wondering how to get Reverend with good honor because everyone says they get the Sister with good honor and Reverend with bad honor but theres a way to get Reverend with good honor and that is by NOT doing the Brother mission where you free the slaves. Thats because if you dont do that mission Arthur doesnt know who Sister is. I think its far more fitting with Reverend because when we first meet Reverrend Arthur saves his life and tells him hes better than what he thinks of himself and by the end Reverend is telling Arthur how hes better than he thinks of himself. Its more fitting with Reverend given the history as opposed to the Sister

This was the cutscene I got on my first playthough. It was so emotional and unlike the other two, I think it truly completes the narrative of the small role that swanson has to play. I think its perfect because Arthur is no holy man saint, but understandably knows what is right. Its the most natural arc for his character, in my opinion. Ima be honest, I think this cutscene fits better with Arthur’s character than sister calderon’s. Swanson knows that Arthur wasn’t always a good man, but he acknowledges that he has become one. I completally agree. I believe Sister is in the cutscene for players who wants to be a goody-two-shoes Arthur, plus emotional. Reverend is honest because he admits he has been a sinner. And we even saw those moments. Reverend and Arthur are friends so they would naturally be real with each other. Whereas Calderon is a nun, but also an almost complete stranger, we don't know her at all. She too has commited sins but we don't see them. We don't have to, but because she is a member of the church she has to comfort a struggling outlaw with morality issues. I really wanted to see more of Reverend in the game, rather than see him in just 2-3 missions.

@solaire2271

Both Calderon and Swanson's conversations were both inspirational and made me like both characters even more. Here's why I like them. Swanson was telling Arthur that his path may be coming to a close, but that shouldn't stop him from being the good man he's grown into, even if Arthur doesn't quite believe it himself. Trying to push him to do right by the part of the gang that still cares about him. Swanson empathized with Arthur because he was someone who made terrible decisions in his life, but he came back from it and wanted to help Arthur believe he can do it too. Sadly you can tell Arthur still mostly brushed off Swanson's insistence that he is a good man. Arthur just had too much experience telling himself otherwise to have his mind changed so quickly. However Calderon approached it in a more emotional manner that truly spoke to Arthur, because that's where his troubles truly are, he's confident in his ability to handle the physical problems of his life, even near the end. But Calderon was able to help him finally face his emotional turmoil which was something Arthur was completely lost in. For his whole life he could write off his emotional hangups by telling himself "It was for the gang" or "This will support Dutch's plan to save us". But not anymore, now without those excuses to lead the life he does, all that guilt caught up to him all at once. Calderon convinced Arthur that despite the pain and loss he has suffered, he can still make things better for others. He doesn't need to believe in salvation or some miracle plan. He only needs to believe in that he has love in him that can be used to help his loved ones. In the end, I actually wish these were two separate events rather then one or the other. This was an important redemption and character defining moment for Swanson. And Calderon brought Arthur peace of mind in ways no one else could.

It honestly serves great as two completely contrasting perspectives. From Sister you you have the point of view of someone who basically just met Arthur and sees only the goodness in him that started growing recently. The version of this with Sister Calderon is more memorable and touching sure. But the high honor version with Swanson is also very touching and in a sense brings the story full circle with how he cleaned up his act. It's also one of the few friendly goodbye scenes Arthur can have with the gang members. He lets Trelawny leave with his blessing, parts ways with Charles after the last mission with the Natives, says his goodbyes to Tilly & Jack before going to rescue Abigail with Sadie then parts ways with them afterwards and of course escaping with John. Everyone else he parted ways with on not so friendly or good terms. Kicked Strauss out, Dutch & Micah and co. turned on him and everyone else died. I think Swanson showed here in this scene just how much he really cared about Arthur and the rest of the gang. But he also knew that he couldn't force any of them to save themselves if they chose not to. Wow. I didn’t even know this scene existed without Sister Calderone. She’s a side mission character so of course it wouldn’t make sense if this was the first time you meet her, I just literally hadn’t ever thought about how this scene would play out if you hadn’t done that questline. And yea having her in this scene adds so much more to the story overall. Stacked up against each other, this scene, while doing what it needs to, doesn’t have near the power that the other scene has with sister Calderon. We spend way too much time getting to know Swanson as a drunk deadbeat lunatic and his change is so abrupt and clumsy that I never see his change as anything more than performative since I’ve seen too many people in my life try to convince you they’ve changed and keep up the act just long enough to get what they want out of you before reverting back. I will never forget the Calderone version of this scene as long as I live.

Ricky L. I think he’s right , neutral in the sense you were good , but weren’t the best , if you were you would have helped the sister, making this close to the middle ground

There's isn't a neutral anything in this game tbh. High or low honor, you would have Swanson either way, unless you did the Brother sidequest in saint denis.

I’m playing with low honor in RDR2 right now and it’s hard, seeing all the little details of Arthur being a bad man just tears me up…. I have to play a high honor way strictly for the cut scenes

arthur may not have been a good person in the sense that he committed robberies, he had killed people and things like that, but he had saved and regretted many things he had done, such as with thomas downes, then he helped his family and he felt very bad about what happened to him. had done and then fired the leopold strauss because he threatened people with family and the poor so i think he was a good man

I think this was way more fitting than with the sister. Because Swanson and Arthur have a long history together so this fit alot better. The only thing I would change is not having Swanson say Arthur isn't a good man

I'm pissed that I didn't get this cutscene on my second playthrough. I loved it the first time I played the game but then on my second playthrough I did as many stranger missions as I could before I had to say goodbye to Arthur again :( but that meant the Sister replaced Reverand Swanson in this scene. Kinda weird because without this, he just disappears from the camp
@Katt-._.7.

Yes exactly, after Arthur’s story I thought ‘where did the reverend go, he just left without saying anything’. That doesn’t make sense, I believe Swanson would have said goodbye to Arthur. They shouldn’t have made the cutscene depend on a mission choice. If you do every mission you miss out on Swansons goodbye. This is the first time I have seen this cutscene.

I do like this interaction better than Sister's tbh. I think its because of reverand's affiliation with the gang that makes it more powerful to me. Its just more of the gang dissolving and going their own ways, really in tune with whats happening in the story. Not that Sister's isn't good too, its great. I just think this one is a lot less hamfisted.

It was such a great game with a really sad story to tell. I really felt terrible for Arthur, and obviously that’s the point. I always played it as a moral character (as moral as I could be considering Arthur is a crook).
