Jeffery Combs is one of the most underrated actors ever. He’s great in everything he does.
@uosdwiSrdewoH

Except he's not. Everyone who works with him sings his praises. His character of Weyoun on DS9 was only supposed to be a single episode at the end of which he was killed. They loved his performance so much they made the Vorta clones just so they could bring him back. I think he's amazing but so does everyone else which is the exact opposite of underrated.

Unfortunately he's kind of a jerk in real life. Met him at a horror convention once. He chatted with me and my friend for a couple of minutes, where he was pleasant enough, and then we got his autograph (he charged $20), but then he completely ignored us like we didn't exist. Most of the other actors we talked to would continue to chat with us after we got an autograph or purchased merch, or even if we didn't. It seems Combs was just there for a quick buck.

The Mrs. is correct, this is basically H.P. Lovecraft's take on the Frankenstein story. The movie is based on Lovecraft's short story Herbert West - Re-Animator (of course, they did a lot of changes in the movie from the novel). There is an audio book where Jeffrey Combs (Herbert West) reads the story. And Mr. Movies, you're actually spot on, they actually used the fluids from a glowstick as the serum. It's non toxic. I mean otherwise they wouldn't have done that If it was. There are two sequels, plus a 4th movie that was planned, but it sadly got cancelled. It was gonna be called House of Re-Animator, the plot would have taken place on the White House, William H. Macy was cast as the president & George Wendt as the vice president & not only would Jeffrey Combs have returned & Stuart Gordon returning to direct it, but Bruce Abbott would have returned as Dan Cain & even Barbara Crampton, but this time as the president's wife (my guess is that there would have been a sub plot about Dan starting a relationship with the first lady because she reminds him of Meg from the 1st movie. Which would have been ironic). There where other planned sequels after the 2nd movie, but they never got off the ground. One of the plots would have been about Herbert West meeting The Old Ones, which is ancient creatures created by Lovecraft. Cthulu is one of them.

Sooo, a few things: 1. This movie is based on an H.P. Lovecraft story but deviates from it quite a bit. 2. West injects himself with diluted 'ReAgent' so he doesn't have to sleep. 3. The big zombie they brought back was played by Arnold Schwarzenegger's stuntman 4. Originally, Dr. Hill was supposed to have some kind of psychic power, which is why he was able to command the zombies. 4. THAT scene got Hill's actor in major shit with his wife. Pretty sue she divorced him over it. EDIT: Films based on Lovecraft stories tend to include a LOT of grotesque body horror. So, be ready for that moving forward.

Another great movie! I think I have it on DVD. I know I've seen it anyway. It's one I may buy again and unearth the original copy months later. The movie was shot straight after The Terminator wrapped and re-uses a lot of the sets. Also, the big guy that comes to life at the start was played by Peter Kent, Arnie's stunt double in The Terminator. The best effect is the Dr Hill headless work. The actor wore a wig so that it matched the one on the fake head. Speaking of head, David Gale (Dr Hill) took his wife to a screening. She saw 'that' scene, screamed "David, how could you!?" and stormed out!

@You, Me, & The Movies : Was going to write a comment to Mrs Movies, that the Dan character was played by Elias Koteas, but looking on the IMDB page for Re-Animator, it turns out that the name of the actor, is actually Bruce Abbott. But holy shit, that guy looks so much like Elias Koteas in his younger days, it's uncanny. They even sound the same when they talk. Unless one of them changed their name along their career as an actor, as Elias Koteas has no credits on IMDB for Re-Animator, so what I took the long way of saying, is that I was wrong. But back then, as they are actors of the same era and about the same age, they could be twins. And I'm utterly blown away by how much they resemble eachother, but that was back in the 80's and 90's, don't know if that's still true today, though.
