THIS, This is entertainment and I enjoyed every single second of this entire video. I’m going off the Basic on the 14th in the Army and my mos for now is 15R, after I finish this contract I wanna become a pilot on said aircraft. I’ve always loved the mechanics and engineering of these helicopters as it takes an insane amount of intelligence and money to utilize these things effectively and practically. Hopefully one day I get to tame the beast lol.

Great video 👍 I eventually plucked up the courage to open up my Joystick and disable the twist grib spring, as it was ridiculous stiff and it made yaw control in the Apache and all other DCS aircraft, sooo much easier. No more clunck rudder control, but more a smoother action from left to right, making taking off and landing so much easter. As well as keeping in the ball during flight.

I use the local points of interest on maps as mission goals a lot. I will make a whole mission on protecting/destroying a bridge or power station or church/mosque. You can make a base out of static objects but using the natural terrain is much more realistic. And with the Apache, I think I am making progress and then I get slammed with a MANPAD I didn't even detect and rage quit. Then come back 3 weeks later and do it again. It's a love/hate relationship with the Apache.

How do you usually go about finding points on interest on the maps? I just think they need to be labeled better

@@Spudknocker I just fly around in a Huey and when I find a decent looking area I write the lat/lon and go to it on the editor map! lol it sucks, there's no better way to do it that I found. If they labeled them better it would be much more helpful. But, I get to explore a lot, and that's fun all by itself. Also, if you right click on a building some text comes up that says "assign as..." and you can use it as a trigger zone I think. I been playing around with that. I will set it up like if you destroy the bridge, it turns on a flag that will do something else, like activate a near by SAM site or ground unit. Kinda nice way to keep a mission going

@@Spudknocker If you change the view to "map" in the mission editor (as opposed to Alt or Sat) you can see some points of interest marked there, as visual references as found on real airspace sectional maps. At least that's the case with Syria, but they're mostly vague. Gives a starting point for exploring around for interesting areas at least.

Hey Spud, nice video! Maybe you could start some sort of a database on your discord where people can post these 'points of interest' with a name, screenshot and the coordinates on the map and in some kind of categories like 'SCUD hideout', 'fortress' and so on. Just like a workaround 'till ED implements some markers on the F10 map. I would love to see more Apache content on your channel. Greetings Milan

Nice! Videos like this are fun to watch. Not really relevant, but I’ve got a video idea. Could you do a BFM tutorial for the F1? I really struggle to dogfight in the F1, because as soon as I turn, the speed is just gone and there’s no way to recover speed. I know the F1 isn’t really a “dogfighter” per se, as it’s truly an interceptor, but surely there are some tricks to keep speed up. Usually I’m fairly good in BFM, but I can’t even keep up with a “Trained” MiG-21 in the F1!

The one you want to fly... To explain a bit: the Huey is great classic helicopter to learn classic seat of your pants flying a helicopter. But if you want to fly an AH-64D Apache or Mi-24P Hind, it does not help much you still need to learn the new helicopter from scratch. Learn to use the "helper systems" SCAS and hold modes, trim system and ultimately the avionics and weapon systems. It's often easier to focus on the one helicopter you want and love to fly, instead of doing transitions from one to the other, especially when it is a simulation and crashing a multimillion war machine is not really a big issue. 😎

Why waste fuel running the engines while prestarting and calibrating, also why need to taxi to the runway for a heli?
@Spudknocker

The Doppler system cant align with only APU Power, and a helicopter is subject to the same ATC instructions as any fixed wing aircraft so a taxi to a runway may be required and its good to the student to know how to do so
@olly299
Жыл бұрын
@@Spudknocker I feel this is probably just a DCS thing as in the real aircraft, we conduct the DMS sweep (setting up the systems) mainly on APU power before starting engines to save fuel. That includes bore sighting and setting up NVS etc. In terms of ground taxi, often if you’re fully loaded, you won’t necessarily have hover performance on take off. In this case, ground taxi and a rolling take off is required. As I don’t play DCS, not sure if it will help but try using hover symbology for ground taxi and take off. If you set 22-25% TQ and have about 2/3 saturation of the velocity vector during ground taxi, it should give you a relatively stable 4 kt ground speed.
