I liked how they explained the bota and the inner dialogue the girl had , it is exactly how it feels to do drugs that you know you should not do but they feel good so you rationalize it in your mind

But they never actually explained why is it bad. It doesn't have any side effects, it's actually heal. It's enhanced her link to the force, so question, where is deceiving impact? Where is morale? No, they did terrible job at this problem, absolutely unexposed and unexplained.

This duology and Dark Rendezvous are by far the best of the novels from the CWMMP! Always wanted the Yoda author to write more for star wars, its a shame he only did one book.

And what about "Labyrinth of Evil" ?

@@magisterdamask3947 im in the minority with this opinion, but i really, *really* dislike labyrinth. I'll copy and paste what i typed up about iy from a discord, that touches on why. Warning though, i typed it up fast when i was at work so it'll likely have plenty of spelling mistakes so my bad if it ends up being an incoherent mess lol Wall of text: I have a controversial take: its not good. But i have legitimate reasons. Luceno at his usual nails the worldbuilding and lore, another great gallery of spot the refrence for long time viewers, and many mentions of countless characters from other material, so as expected that aspect is great. The character of Grevious is by far my favorite aspect, seeing his relationship with the other separatists, his background, its all really well done. By far the highlight of the book. But the characters of Obi and Ani are so incredibly poorly written it astounds me. Its clear at this time his efforts for characterization went all into Dark Lord as he likely was writing both at the same time, or back to back. They are so stilted together, almosy identical to their lowest point together from ATOC, which should no longer be the case. There is some SERIOUS underlying tension between these two, and their more cherry dialogue is akin to the most akward scene from Tartakovsky's volume 2 of Clone Wars, where Obi makes a poorly delivered pun of sorts, followed by a long pause, followed by un-enthusiastic, awkward laughter. Every more lighthearted scene feels as strange as that, i believe it was right after the eating the living force joke if you remember. Its especially a shame because it started fairly good with the beginning on Cato, when Anakin gets separated and he explains why he has to use his anger as its for the greater good. Fantastic stuff. But just that small portion is the most we get of any value between them. Its especially polarizing once you get into ROTS, where they are immediately much more comftorable with each other and much more charasmatic, only further seperating itself from LOE with the heart touching scene with Ani and Obi right before the enter a room to duel Count Dooku. That scene I cannot see happening in LOE. And theres one MASSIVE contradiction, the entire plot centered around Papa Palps and the contraversy surrounding his extended powers relys on the fact that the war is nearing a close, and the republic is winning. This immediately gets contradicted when the ROTS novel outright stayes the opposite in the beginning. And the last thing, this might be me being a little dumb dumb, but i found the capturing of Palpatine by Grevious to be extremely hard to follow, not written well at all, and oh my god this action in this book has a huge over reliance of: character sees X and its over so fast we get the conclusion immediately, followed by a brief explanation in past tense to showcase the speed of the encounter. He does this, so freaking much. Personally, very dissappinted with this one, especially considering the fanfare around it.

“Your death will legitimize the title Plagueis!” “Your master left orders for you to kill me?” “Even now he awaits my return “ “Awaits?” As astonishing as it was to learn that Tenebrous had another apprentice, Plagueis had a surprise in store for Venamis. “Tenebrous is dead!” “Impossible!” “What’s more he died by my hand ! How powerful can you be if you fail to sense the death of your master ! Even now your thoughts fly in all directions! “ “By killing you I will become the Sith Lord he knew you could never be!” “The Sith he wanted me to be!” “ but enough of this ! You’ve come a long way to challenge me so make a worthy effort!” Venamis charged! To Plagueis light saber duels were a tedious affair , full of wasted emotion ….

Worse than first book, the whole snow stuff was an terrorist act, but didn't lead at anything. Also the whole bota addiction line is amazingly... Dumb. I mean, we never realise if it actually bad, right? It's enhanced Barris connection to the force... Judging by the fact, Barris suffers from drug addiction, but the bad effects of it are never mentioned. So is authors wanted to tell that drugs is good? If yes, that horrible. If no, than they did the subplot very badly. Nevertheless, I am interested in what's next for the characters, hope that Corrusant Nights would be good.
