A clear childhood memory for me is dad on shore leave, coming back home after the cinema to his 8yr old son and 7yr old daughter ( responsibly housesitting ourselves ) and telling me how much I would've loved it, all the guns, blood squibs and melty people. He was right. Just like when he told me there's a good film premiering on ITV at the weekend. It was Aliens..he was right again. My dad was extremely influential in my movie life..merely through very general statements of goodness from a general audience moviegoer. Howard the duck is also great. Dad says.

There was also some inspiration from a 1960's Japanese Anime called "Tobor the 8 Man" with had a gritty late 80's-early 90's reboot called "8 Man After" which tackled similar themes. Chiefly a Police Officer/Detective killed in the line of duty only to be resurrected as a cyborg.

2:11 Not sure I can agree as evidenced by the grocery store scene there is a prominent shot of the magazine rack displaying Judge Dredd (and Iron Man). I think the writers have also mentioned in interviews that Dredd was an inspirational factor. Still enjoyed your video. Especially the details regarding Robocops face and "full body prosthesis." Good stuff 👍

2:24 is one of the original designs I believe also. They included the image so I presume they understood the source? Dredd and 2000AD were very much acknowledged. I'm going to take a guess that this is more A.I generated content from somewhere. The assertions and such sound very much like those you'd find as 'goofs' or 'trivia' on Imdb et al. The new love of nostalgia for clicks comes with it a bunch of cherry picked misinformation to go with it I think.

While the original RoboCop doesnt go into full detail what they did to Alex, the reboot shows what they did to that version of Alex Murphy. The original Alex I'm guessing all of his limbs were removed, and he was left with mainly his head, chest area and stomach, much like how the rebooted Alex was, except he still had his right hand. Though original Alex was shot in the head, makes you wonder what they did differently compared to the rebooted Alex.

Robocop 2 is a commentary on the fact that the media after Robocop actively targeted children. Hence the movie and the bad guy are called litterally Robocop 2. The movie is a critique of violence sold to kids. The Hobbs character is the kid that represents all kids, Hobbs was a philosopher whose ideas centered around the surrender to authority. Cain is a character that killed his brother, in this case the brother is the original Robocop movie and ideas. I mean shit, they even say it when Murphy tries to shoot Hobbs and he says "Can't shoot a kid can you fucker" and minutes later he is killed by Cain who can target kids. The failed Robocop 2s are all the attempts to Remake the violent original that were all squashed in favour of cartoons and toys... Reople think the first Robocop is a criticism of free market capitalism when it is in fact a critique of what idiots call capitalism which is really crony capitalism or more realistically socialism as it actually exists in the real world not as it is described in books that are basically fairy tales. OCP has power because it is essentially part of the government... Dick Jones says so "Shit we practically are the military!" Police are a social program, Alex isn't screwed over by a corporation he is screwed over by the government who sell him to a corporation that they have hired to run a social program. Socialism isn't hospitals for sick kids, it is simply: redistribution of wealth (taxes), will of the people (elected officials), seizing the means of production (regulatory capture). The military and police are run by the government (will of the people), they are paid for with taxes (redistribution of wealth), and they are the only ones allowed to do that job, (seized means of production). Robocop is a critique of modern socialism.

@Cormano980
11 ай бұрын
@1968gadgetyo that's to make her forget about him, he no longer can be the man she wanted, also the movie made some radical changes compared to the book, losing the hand and completely changing the look of the armour, he's a cyborg, part human part machine, he's not a terminator with fake skin on top You can see the bullet mark on his head and in the swat scene, which is in the book too, you can see him covering his face with his hand meaning he's vulnerable there, if that would be metal he wouldn't care
@Rocket1377
11 ай бұрын
No, he doesn't have his left hand, they OCP engineers specifically say that they replaced it with a mechanical one. Same goes for his external organic parts (like his face and eyes). That's why his vision is mechanical. Only parts of his brain and internal organs were kept.

@@Rocket1377 you clearly haven't paid attention to my fist comment, I'm taking about the source material the BOOK, wrote by Neumeier which is basically an uncut version of the script, they've changed some things and created some confusion, but it's clearly specified he's a cyborg, not a machine with a human brain like Robocop 2

The very FIRST ROBOCOP film was 1926, METROPOLIS, about a future Corporate facist company, & a female robot, that does its bidding, whilst the citizens below are nothing more than slaves, Paul Verhoeven, admitted as much in an interview & was greatly inspired by it, (even for the costume design) also films like- A CLOCKWORK ORANGE & DIRTY HARRY, WEST WORLD I'd venture to say. So much of the films sucess at the time, was due to what was going on in the REAL developed World, with the rise of Corporatism & the way it was given a free hand, by extreme right wing Governments.
