Procure ver essa mesma música do Gilberto Gil cantando na ONU quando era Ministro da Cultura, junto com Koffee Anan. Ele colocou a ONU toda para dançar. Lindo demais.

i have to drop this recommendation again, pls react to Construção by Chico Buarque, its an absolute master piece. If you could react to the entire first half of the album (also titled construção) which includes "que deus lhe pague, cotidiano, desalento & construção" it would be even better. This album was made during the military dictatorship and the writing of these songs reflects that

Much of the context of the music is explained by the fact that brazilian colonization process actually begun in Bahia. The location that nowadays is known as the city of Porto Seguro, located in bahian south, is where the portuguese expeditions first landed in Brazil. Salvador was the seat of the portuguese colonial administration until 1763, when it was moved to Rio de Janeiro.

Gil flirts with Taoism chinese philosophy. Where god is everything. Good and Bad. He got many songs related with that point of view. To do that in a christian country, being the super star that he is, and even better, without most people realizing that THAT is what he is saying, is pure magic. You feel me?

Hello Goony! As you mentioned Bahia, if you have some time, read a little bit about Professor Letieres Leite and the Orkestra Rumpilezz. Putting it in a short sentence, Letieres was studying the overlaps and origins of popular music in the America's and how it was heavily impacted by the African diaspora. His method "Bahian Percussive Universe" brings an amazing view on how the understanding of "Music Theory" is colonial. There is a really cool show by the Orkestra alongisde Joshua Redman. Love your videos man. Cheers!

it´s been something like 30 years that I´d been to a crowdfunding concert in Circo Voador, before the new circo was built, where Gilberto Gil played only with his guitar for almost three hours and it was one of the best shows ever. He sang for hours, talked to the audience, and people sang with him. Gil is such a sweet person who charms the public. It is amazing.

since you reacted to Black Alien’s “Babylon By Gus”, you really should react to his band, Planet Hemp. it’s basically brazillian’s Cypress Hill. i would recommend either “Zerovinteum”, “Queimando Tudo”, “Contexto” and “Mantenha o Respeito”. you probably know one of its members as the guy who made that song for “Fast and Furious 6”. you should really check Marcelo D2 out too. he released a whole samba focused album called “Iboru” and i would definitely recommend it. “Qual E”, “Desabafo”, “1967 - Live”, “A Procura da Batida Perfeita” and “Pode Acreditar” are all just as amazing. love from brazil 🔥

Brazilian culture isn't separated between Blacks and Whited like in the US, race and culture dynamics don't work like those in the USA, Brazilians are very proud of the mixing and exchange of cultures and DNA, be it from the Tupi, the Yoruba, the European, because their contributions have made Brazil what it is today. They don't separate music into categories like "Black Music", "White Music", that is not the Brazilian mentality. Even though some prejudiced rich politicians try to paint a different picture of Brazil, that isn't the reality, normal people just hang out and live their lives like anybody else. This country is immense.
