24:29 sometimes when you trade someone in baseball, if two teams can’t decide on a player to trade they will just agree on a “player to be named later” which is usually someone of little importance at a different time. in this case, he was traded, and became the player to be named later
@megarockman
3 жыл бұрын
Specifically, MLB teams have a lot more players under contract than just the 25 who dress for the team itself on game day -- the rest are down on minor league clubs affiliated with the major league team so that they can play and develop their skills instead of just sit around. I think the concept in football/soccer of being on loan is probably a similar enough analogy, except a lot more formalized and on a much wider scale. With so many players to evaluate, teams often aren't sure off the bat whom they'd want to select, so in order to expedite the process they can settle on a Player To Be Named Later so that the trade isn't held up by analysis paralysis.

👍👍👍👍👍👍👍Thanks for doing this reaction Luka. I live in Seattle and the fans here have always loved and supported the Mariners. The stadium is absolutely beautiful and the skyline of Seattle is visible from the stadium is breathtaking. I know all about the losing tradition of the Mariners but believe me nobody cares. Every year the fans turn out to watch the team with hopes and dreams of a playoff appearance or even a run at the World Series. It rarely happen but the fans are there every night cheering on the team. All of the sports teams here are beloved. Even the WNBA. When we finally win the World Series this city will explode. I feel like the losing has been forgotten. Those old Mariner teams that lost all of those games are history. Look out for the 2020 Mainers. We're comin for ya!!⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Here are some of the mistakes that Maury Wills made in his short tenure, in no particular order. - Submitting a lineup card with two center fielders, but no third baseman. - Walking a weak-hitting outfielder late in a game against the Angels, hoping their manager Jim Fregosi would forget to put one of his pinch hitters in. But Fregosi didn't, and that pinch hitter smacked a game-winning double. - Making the exact opposite mistake in another game, choosing not to walk Harold Baines intentionally to load the bases and set up a force play at any base. Baines also hit a game-winning double. Later, Wills had a meltdown in the locker room, claiming nobody had ever heard of Baines. - Holding up a game for ten minutes to search for a pinch hitter of his own. - Calling for a reliever, although he had nobody warming up in the bullpen. - Another incident involving Rick Honeycutt - Wills makes a mound visit to talk to him about something. Wills leaves to the dugout, then comes back out, claiming he forgot something. This was considered a second mound visit in an inning, so by rule, Honeycutt had to leave the game. - Wills fined a pitcher that he believed slammed down a batting helmet in the dugout after a poor performance. He later found out it was somebody else, but refused to rescind the fine. - Speaking of former catcher Brad Gulden, he was set to bat in a game against Cleveland, who make a pitching change. Wills is deep in conversation with player Julio Cruz, so he doesn't notice the change. Gulden gets a good count on him, a 3-1 count, and Wills finally notices the pitching change. Furiously, he removes Gulden while the at-bat is still going on because he believes Gulden "showed him up" by not telling him. - Lastly, with a story involving Cruz: Wills tells Cruz he'll be the starting shortstop "permanently." Within twenty-four hours, he's placed at second base. His managerial record was 26-56, a .317 winning percentage. That is one of the worst of any manager with over fifty games in their tenure, as mentioned.

24:26 Sometimes a player will be traded for a "player to be named later" and in some extremely rare cases, a player who spent time with one team can be returned to their original team. Almost like the team that traded for him just rented him for a period of time. This has only happened a handful of times in MLB history. Most of the time the PTBNL is included just to get a deal done prior to a deadline (normally teams cannot trade with one another from August 1 to the end of the playoffs)
