This is Austin Brown. He is one of a kind. He studied Musical Theater in college and worked really hard to lose his Georgia accent. He is actually the only member of Home Free who is from Georgia. Tim (the bass) is from Texas, Chance (the baritone) is from Alabama and Rob (the other tenor) and Adam (the beatboxer) are from Minnesota. Austin can sing any genre with or without his accent. When you react to Delta Dawn, you'll see he really puts it on. He has his own channel. There is some amazing music on there, but since you talked about Musical Theater, I would recommend his version of Bring Him Home. In that performance, he brings his own style to it, but he is in character as Jean Valjean, not Austin Brown. Check it out and welcome to the Home Free rabbit hole.

Austin has a degree in musical theater. He really knows how to make you FEEL a song. He and the other tenor, Rob Lundquist, have a duet on Austin's solo channel (Austin Brown) of Nessu Dorma. SInce you mentioned you are classically trained, I think you would love that one. Rob is also clasically trained and could have had a career in opera if he had continued down that road.

Do keep in mind that the vocals are recorded separately from the video. They *do* sing while they're recording the videos, but that's not the audio they use in the videos, that way they don't have to worry about wind, rain, cars, noises from the recording crew, etc. I think they usually record their vocals standing up, but they do perform some of their songs sitting down in concert and don't seem to have a problem with it (Tim refers to sitting as one of their favorite things).

Austin did a fabulous job of this classic song. Loved Percy Sledge's version, but this was taken to another level. I think it is also better than Michael Bolton's version. And remember this was done during quarantine, so the guys weren't even together. The backing harmonies are great, along with Tim's bass. And Adam's vocal percussion is outstanding. Drummers have often commented on just how realistic his sound is. This is why these guys are my favorite a cappella group.

You were surprised he was singing this sitting down. He has some videos on his own channel where he sings "unchained melody" and "at last" not just sitting down but at times when he is leaning towards the mike he is practically doubled over. Since you mentioned you do musical theatre you might be interested in Austin's version of "Bring Him Home" also on his own channel. Tim Foust also does solo work. He has an album of acapella doo-wop songs where he layers himself singing all the parts. He has released videos for four of them. And I haven't even gotten into their work with other artists like Peter Hollins and the Hound + the Fox... Tim, Austin and Chance all have significant amounts of collaborations.

I've always loved the late Percy Sledge's 1966 original (not so much Michael Bolton's cover - I thought it rather over-wrought). Austin killed it. The harmonies and Adam's perfect beatboxing were fabulous. Austin was actually looking at his lady (who was off camera). His degree is in Musical Theater. When he was a kid, he'd sometimes travel & sing with his father's gospel quartet in Georgia (the other 2 southerners are from Texas & Alabama).

Walking away from Home Free, The former Bassist for PTX, The great Avi Kaplan is also classically/operatically trained. That open-mouthed fascination you showed, especially at the beginning, was (don't be offended, I'm 65 years old) adorable. I'm really enjoying your reactions. You need to remember that each of them will have sung their part directly into a microphone. (During lockdown, each of them set up a recording space in their home.) Then they're doing it AGAIN (and again and again) for the video. I'm sure that they're not simply lip-synching because it wouldn't look real, and they look like all the effort is right there during the videos. Their producer is incredible too. But it also means that Austin can be seated for the video, where he wouldn't likely be seated while recording the audio.

The sliding into notes is something Austin does so incredibly mostly when he's doing the real country and twang, but at other times he does it when he's really being emotional. If you haven't yet, watch Austin do it as a soloist with piano accompaniment. It will blow you away! And another I love him doing a solo version of Tears in Heaven. So emotional.
