Here's how the real world works kids. Some people have more disposable income than others. Joe Rogan or someone ordering a rig this high end isn't going to go shopping around for parts and building it themselves, regardless of how much "cheaper" it is, because 1, they don't care and 2, their time is more valuable to them. Podium 1 seems to make some nice rigs in all price ranges and if someone wants to spend this much on a rig, so be it. They're definitely getting a class product, delivered and setup. These people are getting exactly what they paid for, they just want to sit in it and go without fucking around.

We work so closely with all the developers now, and get products before it’s released and help with all the different software and have so many customers who are always providing feedback from use in the field. As one who is into the flight simming side as well as the racing, this rig only scratches the surface as far as what flight gear you could put on a rig like this. I know you go with the Thrustmaster Warthog for practicality, but just imagine how much this price tag could go up if you start throwing on Virpil, VKB, WinWing, a VPForce Rhino stick base?!? It's crazy how people just don't understand how quickly these things add up and that you're also providing a premium white glove treatment on top of everything else. I love what you guys do.
@podium1racing

There’s a few things here. One, one of the biggest reasons is availability. I actually have 40 or so pieces from virpil on order for months, we use winwing all the time however always out of stock but also doesn’t easily just work with everything right out of the box, have Komodo on order for probably 6 months, and others… This is a racing Sim first. Because of where it is going in Joe studio, the people that will be using it, the ease of people to be able to use it, we had to take these different things into consideration. We actually are going to make more videos around the flight options simply because we hear people bagging on the thrust master all the time. However, we started first using all the big names in flight which just constantly would disappoint. Sticks pulling out of the base, things not being able to get mapped in certain games, always delayed with delivery, etc. etc. we probably have about $50,000 Thats just been sitting in limbo for months waiting on delivery of product. Def looking forward to getting in the items but we have sold 10 times the amount on order since we placed the orders lol. It’s actually quite a common thing in this industry right now. Many many many of the brands and their production cannot always keep up with what we have going on.

I first discovered you guys while researching Dbox. Then all the build videos popped up in my feed. And of course I follow jimmy too. And while I don’t need a turn key system since I built my own I will say it’s nice to have another stateside distributor of many of these components. My first rig was plywood and a g29, and I was casually tracking my daily, with life changes (kids) I had less time for real cars and more time for sim racing. Now the car has sadly been sold but my sim rig has VR, motion, DD, 8020 and even though I’ve spent a fair amount it’s still nothing compared to the cost of a real car. And I’m not limited to a local track in sim I can race any car any track any time against anyone in the world.. and still lose lol. I agree on points on both sides. I spent countless hours setting things up, tuning settings, troubleshooting and optimizing VR, motion, wheel force etc. sometimes feels like more time tuning than actual racing. I can see the value in not needing to do that for those that can afford it.

100% First, money spent doesn’t have to be crazy. My first system was about $2500 bucks. From there it grew and once we noticed how good a high end system can be to real driving we were sold. EVERYTHING is subjective. Sometimes people go to restaurants frequently where others will go to that same restaurant during special occasions. To one, it’s normal, to another it’s special. Same can afford it and don’t think about where others may save up for that one time special occasion. Doesn’t make one more valuable than the other. Everyone is in a different place in life with different expectations and tolerances. Back to sim racing - you can be very fast with a low budget system - but as you know from your journey - higher end equipment makes it so much more enjoyable (for those that set their eyes on it). Some want something to be as close to their car as possible. As good as a G923 can be for beginners, it will never truly serve the purpose of feeling “real” Static Vs motion Basic pedals vs active pedals Carbon wheels with leds vs basic wheels with 4 buttons. Each adds a depth as well as opportunity for those who understand their benefits.

The amount of small modifications, setting up, delivery and after support is no small cost. OK guy's well done for doing this. From me buillding my rig i totally get how difficult it is to get it done. To give you an example of how this is, my seal came off my washing machine and i spent probably an hour and a half trying to sort it. I called a plumber to fix it, he came in and said , do you have any washing up liquid? i said yes. He squirted it on the seal and popped it on with ease. He charged me £30 for 5 mins. The moral of the story is the liquid cost £0.02p and the £29.98 was for his 25 years experience. You guy's are doing the sim racing scene all the favours. Well done, i have said this to you before and wil again. Love from Scotland

Amazing and thank you. Like we said in the video we started by selling rigs for so much less. We also used to sell just the individual bundles where we would ship out the components to customers to have them build it themselves. Inevitably, we would be spending hours with customers, walking them through how to build everything because they always ran into issues. They started asking us. Why don’t we just charge to build it and save them all the time from having to deal with it and here we are. I’m sure like many of all of us for the first time we install the uprights and we get everything set up and then we sit down and realize that the wheel deck is too far away or too close. We’ve been through all these different scenarios and take all that away and make it very easy for customers. Again, thank you so much for the support. Really appreciate it. Steve

They either should have said nothing or just said yes, it's justified and kept it moving.

Stop arguing with people in comment sections who 99.9999999% of which were never going to be your customers even if you charged zero dollars on labour, nor are they your target audience. And like I said, it wouldn't matter if you charged $50k for your labour - all you do is stand on your square and say that's how much your labour is worth because you do such a top notch job. Also add that if the customer doesn't think it's worth it, that's unfortunate, but you believe you provide an invaluable service with great value and even if they don't think it's worth it, there are plenty of people who do, tell them to have a good day and keep it moving. Instead you're getting in the trenches with people, coming across as a bit dishonest, overly defensive and now you're insulting people. You say these "idiots" don't know what it takes to run a business, but by calling potential customers idiots who know nothing, you're kind of projecting a bit. I'm not saying you're an idiot, but I'm certain that insulting potential customers is just plain bad business.

Appreciate the comment. We hope Joe and others we are doing (Like Snoop) help broaden the exposure to sim racing as well. It will only make things better for us all. We have listed out all the items just so people can understand there's a lot more in this than giving credit to. (For example, many have said $1500 in wheels.... Just the RSR is $2300 and that's one of 5 wheels. In total the wheels are roughly $7500 with the needed quick releases on some and that's all the retail listed MSRP pricing...) Our travel and labor expenses were all of $7k.... Shipping $3k Taxes were about $5k (Sadly we do so many, especially in Texas, we have to collect taxes) That leaves $55k which is absolutely what everything breaks down to (we have listed on many comments). I think you'll find its not us that adds a lot. The industry as a whole due to business learning to scale. When a specialty item, things cost more. For example just the Arks - when full retail like when they were released when this was purchased are 3k a piece. You can buy a 55" TV for less than 500 bucks however its not a gaming monitor.... As more get into this, pricing to a degree, will drive down further. We are already hearing from some they are no longer going to be selling wheels for over 2k. Everything with even better quality will be in the $1500 range moving forward.

"It's more fun to drive a slow car fast than it is to drive a fast car slow" comes to mind when comparing the expensive turn-key rigs to more affordable entry-level rigs. Is the experience of driving a Boxter going to be the same as driving a 918? No. Does the price and performance difference automatically means it's going to be less fun? No. Nobody NEEDS a 918 to have a fun driving experience when there are plenty of affordable Boxters out there. But if you have the disposable income and those two cars are your options, who would really opt for the Boxter?

However I still drive a Honda and at times and on the track at times will use the Mazda MX five or other “slow” cars. All of it is just as fun as the other and each of them help your skills in different ways. You do not need a fancy rig to learn how to race and learn how to drive. Chandler and I both started with logitech G923s and used for a long time. Better equipment doesn’t mean you all of a sudden know how to drive better but it does help you become more consistent and have more immersion and once you understand how to learn how to drive it can assist you when putting in the work. It also seems you guys are trouble-shooting before the fact and if there is a problem you offer support to get that customer back up and running on their investment. I've seen too many customers invest so much but then skimp out on machinery because they don't think it's worth spending more money on a machine that seemingly does the same as one half the cost, but the more expensive one is not only better built machine but has the technical support to back it up when it goes down. In my opinion the last thing you want to lose a customer is on quality/service, pricing can be retrievable.

You bring up a super important point that I forgot to mention in the video. There are so many times that we get dead on arrival product. We put a handbrake on or a shifter on or pedals on or a wheelbase on or we get damage monitors on delivery or whatever it may be and find out that the product is defective or broken completely. We don’t delay the customer or tell them that it’s something they need to deal with or anything along those lines. We simply go to our inventory grab another one rewire it and put that one on and be done with it. This way the customer does not have to deal with this when they get it. We know, there are countless people out in this industry who have received products that are bad on arrival, and have to go through the whole process of retrieving another. We essentially remove that whole thing. If there is ever something that’s defective once at the customers house, instead of sending them to the individual manufacturer of that component we also take care of that, and immediately send out the replacement, and then we deal with the manufacturer to take care of the replacement .

I will absolutely confirm that AMS two looks absolutely amazing. When you come around turns during sunset and the sun is coming through the trees and blinding you when you come around is unreal. It is so much like real life. It’s crazy. I still also have to say that compared to a 4K screen, where you don’t see pixels at all and it’s crystal clear even in the distance, the comparison goes away. Still on triple screens, you’ll never be blinded by the sun, like you will, with VR. Two months ago , I Steve, like I mentioned in the video would’ve told you I hated VR. With the addition of motion, my VR sickness is just about zero and I’m really starting to enjoy some of its benefits. I cannot wait to see what comes in the next five years.

@@podium1racinggetting blinded by the sun is part of the fun. I'm here for it. At one point I thought I would have triples for when I don't want to race in VR. I've been racing in VR for two years now and I can confidently say I will never sim race/pilot on a flat screen again. Happy to sacrifice some loss in visual fidelity for ultimate emersion. The only thing left for me is motion. One day....

@@Liquorpuss I’m not sure we’re on the same page here but I appreciate the input. You can make all the graphics look as amazing as you want in any of the sims. It’s not about the graphics in the Sims working perfectly. It’s literally the physical hardware. VR is just not nearly as clean as the 4K monitors yet. Even the Pimax crystal, which is supposedly “8k” which we have and sell (we are a distributor) doesn’t come close to 4K monitors. This is not saying it is not immersive. VR is absolutely incredible. I was so anti-VR until just a few months ago. It is getting so good.

You say when on track "when you hit the brakes your dash does not look to the ground". You say the horizon dosen't move and is locked. You can lock the horizon on the sim. Your monitors don't move. So the only thing that is happening with your rig when you brake is 1. The horizon is locked on the software. 2. The monitors do not move. 3. Your rig pitches forward and the dash looks to the ground....I think you need to try a motion rig with a monitor (you say you need to try it). A motion rig with dbox and monitor.... kzitem.info/news/bejne/xZp_z5yXfnp0e44si=UZ1pJ4pZibG-Ym-i

Do you track cars like us? You link a video to IMSIM which uses gimbal like tech to keep the monitor completely steady, as if its not attached.... Its in the software that you can adjust for motion or non motion. Default set up is to simulate motion since most dont have it. You adjust to remove that and motion system does the rest. When you brake in your car, your windshield it not pointed to the ground. Period.

You are not charging $8k to build this rig? Ok, how much are you charging? Accounting for all the equipment, at MSRP, plus shipping and handling, what is the price of all the parts? My estimate is around $40-45k. But the thing is, normally you would actually get a bundle discount, e.g., when you get pedals, base, and rim from Asetek, you get a discount. You pointed out yourselves that you get discounted prices on all the gear (obviously), so you are not passing those along on customers who are buying all this gear as a part of a turn-key system. I mean look, I just built a rig by myself and spent around $20k on equipment (most of it I got at discount on BF or otherwise). I spent literally days of time building it and tinkering with it to adapt it to what I want. If you ask me how much I would charge if someone wanted the rig like I have built for someone, I would say $40k, i.e., I would charge another $20k for labor. No shame in that. It is an absolute pain in the ass, yet I still enjoyed doing it because I was building it for myself. Doing it for someone else, no way would i be charging less than $100/hour for labor. So I feel like you are underplaying both the amount you actually ARE charging for labor and the how much it is justified to be charged. Yes, this may be $40k of equipment (and some of it could be better for cheaper, e.g., the fucking seat is way overpriced for what it is), but it is absolutely fine that the other $30k comes from actually putting all this shit together and making sure it works as intended.

I like Jimmy's content, but he's missing the point here. Of course Joe Rogan's setup is going to be over the top. This isn't a "minimum necessary" type rig. It's the friggin Joe Rogan rig. Plus his point about DBox being connected to the monitors made no sense but I guess that's fine. Classy response though hats off to both of you. Next time, just tell Joe Rogan to go get a seat from his local junkyard. I'm sure he will get right on that.
