I 100% agree with you on letting kids on animals if they don't give them the proper care (or just people in general). I definitely agree with you about kids having pets. My 11 year old sister (we have a 13 year age gap) has 5 rabbits, 2 Guinea pigs and 2 hamsters. The rabbits are in suitable conditions, the Guinea pigs are in slightly small cage but not as terrible as the ones on this video. However they had no hidey homes so I had to go out and purchase a couple. But the hamsters! Both in pet shop cages one which was too big to even use it’s wheel (had the excuse she doesn’t like wheels, got her a suitable size one and she uses it all the time), recently went out and spent over £100 on better enclosures for them. I don’t live with them and have my own pets to deal with (2 dogs and fish). Parents need to take more responsibility for these pets they buy for their kids. And when the buy them, be willing to spend the money on making sure they are in appropriate living conditions.

The cage for the two is a 2 by 4, bigger than normal(I got chloroplast and it’s the actual size and I struggled to make the grids fit 💀👍🏼) and my single piggie is in a 2 by 3. There’s a lot of young kids (10-13) in the comments who are trying to justify owning pets. Alyssa is simply saying that kids are fine to own pets IF their parents are fully supportive and prepared to be financially responsible. Sadly those are a lot of words that 10-13 year olds don’t quite fully understand yet.

I totally agree with your “kids shouldnt have animals unless they have help from parents” point. I got my first pet (a betta) as a very young kid, and that poor fish was abused. I am still very guilty about it. Then, years later, I got my second pet (a budgie) as a 10 year old. I had done like a year of research, and I knew what I was doing, but expecting a kid to do EVERYTHING for a pet is terrible. I did all the daily care, feeding, watering, playing with, cleaning, but my parents paid for all the stuff. The food, vet appointments, toys and perches. I now think that 10 years old was very young to get a pet. I, while I knew what I was doing, still wasn’t the best pet parents (because I was a child). I think that 13-14 is a good age for your first pet, with financial support from parents. I don’t think anybody younger than 18 should get a pet if their parents dont expect to pay all the bills and stuff. It’s a recipe for disaster.

Disclaimer the huch is 4ft x 1.5ft and 2 stories which I hate for piggies as they struggle with the ladder so I've added a tunnel on it to help them. I always had c and c cages before and loved them.

I had a single Guinea pig when I was 13. She was a birthday gift. I begged for a Guinea pig after reading the book,”Rules” where she had two of them. I begged my mom for a second because she needed a friend or she would get sad and lonely. I did the research but at 13 couldn’t get my mom to understand any of the proper care for the Guinea. My mom really just thought I desperately wanted a second. I also explained that she needed a larger cage but my mom wouldn’t listen. These animals should always be for adults to care for with the help of children. I could only advocate for my Guinea so much because if my mom wasn’t invested in the Guinea then how could I be as invested as I wanted to be without her help. She was a good mom and helped me A LOT with the Guinea. But I think since she wasn’t 100% into my Guinea then she didn’t do 100% of the effort to help. 😢 our Guinea lived a good long 6 years. 3 with us and then we moved across the country and we didn’t want to stress her so my friend took her for the last three. ❤

All the kids commenting to defend themselves 😭😂 There is literally no way a whole child can financially support 2 animals unless the parents able to help. Only very specific circumstances after previous bonding attempts are appropriate to only have one pig, no excuse. I had pigs at 17 and didn't know what I was doing. They're advertised as beginner pets, so I thought I was ready for that responsibility. I wasnt. I'm 25 now, and know how to properly care for them. It takes time and experience, as well as MONEY to afford pigs. To properly care for my 4 girls, I pay around 150-200 a month, not counting vet emergencies--WHICH DO HAPPEN, AND CAN BE VERY EXPENSIVE. I'm a whole adult, and even then family still helps me out when I can't completely afford an emergency. Children should NOT be the sole carer for any animal, period. They can absolutely have pigs in their room and even be the primary person to take care of them if responsible enough, but it's ultimately up to the parents to be able to afford regular care and emergencies. No child under 15 is making the kind of money to be able to afford animals. Just because they're rodents doesn't mean they're "beginner pets". My pigs are 10 times harder to care for than my cat and dog. Pet stores need to educate themselves more, because there's way too many kids getting animals and abusing/neglecting them without even realizing it.

In my opinion kids(From 0 to 12/13) shouldn't get pets AT ALL. Cats or a dog maybe but PLS PEOPLE finally learn that those little animals(Hamsters, Mice, Guineapigs, Rabbits, etc.) ARE NOT children animals even if people still think they are perfect pets for kids... Those animals are so sensitive and often need special care and a lot of chill time and not a kid who is constantly touching/holding them.

I honestly think kids should not have full responsibility of pets, although they should still have the ability of getting one, I do know some of you will probably look up how old I am, and yes I an young but I have multiple pets including a hamster, fish, two snails, Guinea pigs and take good care of them I have a double stack 3 by 5 c&c cage for the piggies I feed them all abt 3/4 of a cup of pellets in the morning, make sure their hay is always available, and feed them 1-2 cups of veggies in the afternoon. Also I keep all their water clean and full. My robo dwarf hamster lives in a 40 gallon tank, I feed him a table spoon or so of verity food every day and make sure he is healthy. For my betta fish and snails they all live together in a ten gallon tank. I feed him 1 or 2 pellets of his food daily and the snail eat the algae on the wall. I share a corn snake, and a gecko with my stepmom. I think some people deserve animals and some don’t. Thx❤❤❤

I have a pet sitting business and that usually pays for everything and I mean everything that I have to provide for my piggies, with only a little help from my parents. I feel like kids shouldn't get guinea pigs (or any other animal, for that matter) if the parents or kids aren't able or willing to pay for everything, and I agree with you 100 percent. I agreed with that of not having a pet under 13 because what you said and they should learn about guinea pig first before getting it, like am only 18 and I always wanted a guinea pig even though we have 9 pets in the house but am trying to get my mom and dad approval of letting me get a guinea pig and I only want one and I found midwest cage that is good size and what not, so hopefully I get it and before I even thought about it and before I get it, I did my research on guinea pig.

I really appreciate you talking about children with pets, because kids should not have pets on their own. I got all my animals when i was around 14 and in no way could i afford their stuff on my own without my mother. This shows that no matter how "responsible" a child is, they cannot take care of pets on their own. I am now 16 with a job and can afford my pets but if i didn't have a job, my mom would STILL be the one paying for all their neccessities.

This is the thing, I’m 11 and I have 2 Guinea pigs in an 8 foot cage. Next week I’m moving them into a 18 foot cage and getting 2 more Guinea pigs sometime around Christmas. I take great care of them and it shows that just because you are young doesn’t mean you shouldn’t get pets. But in a part of one of your videos you said that you shouldn’t get a pet like Guinea pigs if you can’t afford them, I just wanted to say I completely agree and understand, and it’s true and a lot of people don’t understand how much space a Guinea pig Truly needs. Just one Guinea pig (btw please get more then one Guinea pig if you don’t already have one) needs up to 4 feet of space and without that space they can get stressed out causing them to panic and possibly die. A lot of parents get only one Guinea pig and puts it in a 3 foot cage and let’s their Unresponsible children play with it, without realizing they are in a way traumatizing and partly abusing it. And when ever I see that I try to tell them that it’s not okay and atleast get a bigger cage for it. But sometimes people just don’t understand and don’t listen to you, you can’t force people you can only give advice or encourage. I also am not hating on you or anything not saying your forcing because I know these people send the photos in free willingly and ask for advice. But one thing I just NEVER get is when someone gets a Guinea pig and keeps it in a small space like 2-3 feet of space then says “I’m going to make it bigger in the future” Don’t get Guinea pigs if your gonna keep them in a space that small. Get them when you have that bigger cage or at least make that VERYYY temporary like within two days. Btw no hate on your channel or anyone or anything just saying my opinion like your saying yours. I personally approve of your cage and think your a pretty good Guinea pig owner. ❤I just don’t agree with everything you say. Like “all kids shouldn’t have pets” not being rude just saying my opinion. Anyways that’s it.

Bribe these people into upgrading by telling them you’ll make a whole new video with all of the same owners/piggies included! (For the sake of them upgrading, for the sake of getting proof of it, and for the sake of making sure that all of these little angels in their terrible enclosures are still alive and healthy and thriving!!!

I still don’t really agree with kids not having animals because I’ve two bearded dragons, a bunny and a hamster and I take good care of them. Also, my parents normally don’t help me with him.

I got my first hamsters as a child, and I didn’t take the best care of them, but I quickly learned and my mom paid for everything, years later at age 17, I still have hamsters that I fully pay for, and they have amazing care! I agree children shouldn’t have animals by themselves, and they should be the adults responsibility to make sure the animal is getting proper care.

I have a legit question and anyone who might have a solution I’m open to listening… I have two male Guinea pigs in one of those two story wired cages and I have realized it’s too small for them and I want to upgrade for a c&c cage but I also have tiny hunting dogs (they are chihuahuas) and I know they would jump and probably kill them… they already interact but there is one that does not like the pigs so I can’t use an open cage… what should I do??

Needless to say, C&C cages could be much cheaper to make than buying a store cage. Midwest cages are also very affordable. 😀👉💗🐹👍

I 100% agree children shouldn't have pets. I'm 14 and I got my girls almost 2 years ago and I'm my own example. I had no idea what I was doing and it was a horrible cage. Thank you so much for your channel because for a year and a half my girls have had the right cage, right food and everything right. I hate myself for not being prepared before and also why I utterly hate impulse buying!!!! I know everything they need now and I research many rodents ans others because I want to become a veterinarian. Please guys do research before buying

I 100% agree about your comment about children and pets i think it should just be common sense when a kid own a pet actually the parents own the pet and are the ones responsible for it of course the kid can help to take care it but the parents have to be envolved to garantee the pet and child well-being if you are a parent want to give your children a pet and cant be responsible for it please don't get a pet.

I agree. They will understand when they are older. I am mortified as a 27 year old thinking back about how I housed my rats (in tanks and used hamster balls 😭). Children shouldn’t be expected to fully take care of pets.

I’m 28 and the amount of times my mom got me pets only to put them in WAY too small cages breaks my heart even now. Thankfully I’ve learned and vow to never allow it to happen again but it still hurts to know we were mistreating so many animals. Kids should NOT have pets unless their parent are educated and willing to pay for good housing and vet bills.

Hay for bedding is so bad after 12-24 hours it starts to mold and that is horrible for there respiratory system . They need a kiln dried pine or aspen bedding so it will wick the moisture down so they aren’t sitting on wet molded hay . I guarantee that pig has fungal feet or respiratory issues. Btw love your hair ! And sorry for your loss ! You don’t owe anything to anyone but yourself if your finding yourself in a rut then do what you need to do to care for YOU . You owe no explanation to anyone . Mental health is something so overlooked and you are your best advocate! Take care and loved the video !

I am so glad that when I was a kid my parents didn't let me take care of an animal all by myself. It was always up to my mum to pay for the upkeep of the rabbits and cats including the vet visits.

Totally agree that a bunch of kids don’t do their proper research on guinea pigs but there’s also a lot of kids that do do their proper research and buy things like C&C cages And all the proper stuff for the guinea pigs but there are way more children that by tiny cages like you children in this video

That's not the point she is trying to make, lol. Kids should not be the primary caretaker of any pet. If you wouldn't give a 9 year old a dog and expect them to walk it all alone and feed it all on their own, you also shouldn't expect the same with any other pet.

thank you for bringing up the topic about kids owning pets. it hurts my heart to see so many people buy their kids animals (especially exotic ones that they don’t have any knowledge about) only to end up giving it away a few months later. pets are a lifetime commitment and a serious responsibility!!

I agree with you. I was away from home and my mom was getting a bunny. I begged for her to get 3 bunnies so they wouldn’t be alone. I was 10. I am now 15 (still a child ik) and struggling to maintain the ability to take care of my pets and do school work. I don’t blame my parents, but I am definitely stressed.

I will say I am extremely lucky that I have parents that are understanding and willing to hear what I tell them. I went from a hutch to free roam and an xpen, and now they are all fixed.
