Like some Tool songs, they have to grow on you, for me I struggled to understand why people were such big fans of this track. Then i finally heard the lyrics and understood. Let the waters kiss and transmutate these leaden grudges into gold. Let go.

@@ginofactap why be an asshat? You seem to clutch your crown of negativity like a cornerstone. I think the music and composition on this song is not Tool’s best work. Yes. It takes a minute to truly appreciate TOOL. It's not a gut feeling type of thing; it's more intellectual than that, I think. Then again, once you've reckoned the profundity, TOOL folds back in on itself to become the only thing worth listening to but... To your own detriment. The rest of pop music seems disposable in comparison. Until you realize that you, yourself, are an asshole unworthy of any kind of enlightenment. That's when you can put TOOL into context and live your shitty life til the bitter end

Completly and utterly disagree. I love lots of Tool songs, and there are also lots that I just find a noise. It's not that I don't understand them as you say, it's just that they are a noise. You're telling us what we should be feeling based on your own feelings. There are lots of people who feel the same as I do. The Grudge is one of the songs I slip every time, and yes I've tried to listen to it. And to say there are no bad or mediocre songs is also wrong, and just your opinion. A little context for this song. Tools first album, Undertow has a theme of abuse and addiction. Their second album, Aenima, is basically about dealing with the world, past trauma and whatnot and not liking it at all. That album ends with the track Third Eye that is some sort of an awakening. Lateralus, their this album, opens with this song about letting go of your grudges. It leads into the rest of the album that is overall coming to terms and finding peace. It’s a concept trio of albums that is very much so worth a listen the entire way through. That’s my thoughts on it anyway. Your reactions are great by the way🤙

Yes! Couldn’t have said it better myself. Having listened to Tool’s work chronologically Ive always felt people who discover Tool’s later songs first will always miss out a bit on some of the layers in them because of the work that took to get there and how the journey shapes the achievement. The songs are so incredible in themselves that they’re always worth being listened to but imo they’ll be even better after knowing the struggle and angst that had to be overcome to get there.

I'm glad you're digging tool. It's always fun seeing someone hear them for the first time. Assuming you continue your tool journey, i would suggest you listen to the following songs together as they had to be broken up into separate tracks for one reason or another, but are meant to be single songs: Parabol + Parabola Intension + Right in two Wings for marie + 10,000 days Lipan conjuring + lost keys + rosetta stoned Disposition + reflection + triad Also, i put them in, in my opinion, the most "normal" and least involved order. Each one gets longer and more esoteric, and goes further down the tool rabbit hole.

There's this really specific beat/syncopated rhythm in 5 that runs on and off through this song (all instruments come back to it at one time or another, including the vocals "Wear. The grudge. Like.
