For me, "Pan" is a masterpiece. It's the kind of song that leaves you wide-eyed and open-mouthed, smiling. I remember that it was performed in the virtual concert in May 2021 (there are recordings on YT), but it was not part of the setlist of the 2022-2023 tour - probably because it is very difficult to perform. I remember that Floor said in an interview that it was difficult for her to find moments to breathe, when she prepared to record the song for the album.

I have simply come to realize that Human : Nature is the best concept album of my generation. From start to finish it has a great message. It hints at itself mentioning other songs on the album from within songs. The Composition, Lyrics, and music videos all separately awesome. Together however, they are jaw dropping. This is symphonic metal Tommy to me. Other may disagree but to me it's the best my generation has to offer and I love it.

Eric Clark's breakdowns are as epic as his reactions and he makes it fun with his 30 plus years in Rock Radio and music Knowledge . Thank you "The Wyldeside with Eric Clark" for doing this . "PAN" to many in the Nightwish Army Musically and Lyrically is right behind Nightwish's big 3 of Ghost Love , Poet and Pendulum and Greatest Show on Earth . My hope is that one day Tuomas Holopainen's gift of Nightwish and Auri to the world will truly be recognized. That goes for Emppu, Marco , Kai , Troy , past members , and Floor .....

PAN or "Pancake" (According to Emppu 🤣). What a beast of a song... only Tuomas can juggle with "Kittens and chainsaws" (You said it, and I'm gonna use the hell out of it, in my future comments!). Pan is about creativity and storytelling. There's references to mythology Neil Geihman, Guillermo Del Toro, Pat Rothfuss, Tolkien, and many others. One of the key pieces to remember is that Pan has a couple meanings. One of them is literally "Everything" Like Pansexual, Pandemic, Panorama. Human Creativity is all encompassing. So many of the references are multi-meaning. The Labyrinth reference isn't just Greek Myth. It's the Jim Henson Movie, Pan's Labyrinth, and more. It's in essence a song about Tropes and the Beauty of the way humans use them. It's the Panoply of Human Ideas. Pan is also the scientific name of chimpanzee (Pan troglodytes) and lyrics mention "An ape in awe before a door" which is claimed to be a reference to the scene of "Space Odyssey 2001" with hominids and extraterrestial monolith "Tir na nog" was an West Irish Island in legend (Oisin) and means the Island of youth, beauty, health and happiness. GREAT Reaction as always my good sir !!!!!! NWSU/FloorFan 🤘😎🤘.

I appreciate your in depth analysis of the greatness that we are experiencing here. Indeed Beethoven and Bach, would you please be so kind to move over. Here comes Tuomas. Other times, other techniques, but this is of the same greatness ( at least). Let's not make the same mistake as people in the past, to recognize the greatness of a composer after he passed away. We are living now. Experiencing this now. Let's give them the honour they deserve and spread the gospel. You recognize that and that is comforting. To see that I'm not the only one with an exploded head. Because when I ask people around me:" have you ever heard of Nightwish?" I am met with a dumb stare. Or " have you ever heard of Floor Jansen? " they give me that same stare. And I am living in the f...... Netherlands. Can you imagine? You're doing a fantastic job! Spread the gospel!

@@chrissturkenboom6080 I liked it as well but the middle section "beautiful tragedy, wonderful fantasy" Floor had to sing an octave lower than the recorded song. With you this has been spot on from the very first time I saw your reaction to Nightwish's GLS live at Wacken 2013. PAN is one of many gems on the album and possibly technically the most challenging for both Emppu and Floor. When Human || Nature came out I can remember the fans being very divided. One group straight out rejected it as being 'not Nightwish' while others, me included, thought it to be their best album to date. I've always respected people's individual tastes especially when it comes to music. What I never understood however was the refusal and unwillingness to open up to new things. "Something wicked this way comes" is spoken by one of the witches in "Macbeth". It was performed sort of live in the virtual show and it was a bit rough in spots. Floor nailed the vocals, but Emppu hit a rough patch and Tuomas was smirking at him, then the usually infallible Kai hit a rough patch with the cymbals ending up about a beat off the pace. For Emppu, this song is like one, long solo. He remarked early on that this song, were it to be performed live, it would be a "pancake" which I understand is a Finnish way of say "a flop". He said he was too old to play it live.

In reaction to your comments above I just listened to and closely watched the virtual concert rendition of this song. What attracted my attention is that the visual pictures are out of sync with the audio in many place for that recording. (which is not a live recording anyway). And - for instance at 4.15 - you clearly see Kai's hand make a last striking movement that is not represented as a audio signal. In other words: I would say bad synchronisation between image and sound, and you see that at many places in that video. So I don't think you can or should draw any conclusions based on that. Bad video editing seems to be the problem here.

@@rientsdijkstra4266 Thanks, I'll have to go back and look. Usually I'm quick to pick up sync issues as I'm into video myself and audio/video sync issues are one of things I routinely deal with.

@@rientsdijkstra4266 Haven't checked it out yet (I will in a few minutes), but these days sync issues shouldn't happen on a pro shot, multicam set. If we're recording video with five cameras plus laying down an audio master track, the cameras will also be recording a scratch audio track for sync purposes. Modern NLEs make this syncing via audio a piece of cake, so a pro crew should not be messing it up.

So you like syncopes? Floor has a sister who sings too, you can spot her in the chorus with Ayreon. In this opera-like set-up Floor is engaged what she likes to do: A powerful belted sweep out. kzitem.info/news/bejne/mnd3vqiLnX9oq3osi=2OOEwsLjveFCdjDg

Not sure how this escaped you but glad you got to it. IMHO it is one of their best tracks. Unfortunately it is apparently difficult to deliver live so I guess the lyric video will have to suffice.

great reaction to a masterpiece! loved watching you react to this song in particular knowing what was coming 😄 since you've recently reacted to steve n seagull covering nighwish's sleeping sun with tarja (amazing!), i think you may find interesting to check out nightwish's version with floor (since you've already heard it sung by tarja's voice, even though in a different ambience) here's a magnificent rendition live in tampere, finland, in 2015 kzitem.info/news/bejne/06ml2qCwq2uogawfeature=shared this song has always been wonderful, sung by all 3 singers, each with their own touch and style. speaking of 'touch', you'll get your emppu's ratio 😜😜😜 hope you enjoy. i might be wrong, but i think i remember this is a concert floor's parents attended, and there were some sweet happy emotions going on about that, and this piece, this performance, they exude SO MUCH emotion

It is so unfair to force other bands to be compared to Nightwish or Epica, they are in a class by themselves.
