Nice analysis! And a nice song. Guys are incredibly talented and fun. I agree that Tim's bass perfectly contributed to the rhythm and likability of this song, as it is unobtrusive and does not stand out, but supports Austin's lead voice. Also, I love when they use humor where they can, because they use it spontaneously. They are hilarious in "Champagne Taste On a Beer Budget" as well as in "Hillbilly Bone" .

This has always been a favourite of mine and still makes me laugh ny head off every time I see it. The idea, that the guys are counterfeiters, is brilliant, and Chance shows a way with a cigar hardly seen since the 1940s. Trivia corner: Austin's tie comes from Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer. He believes in recycling and his clothes often reappear in new videos or even in private life. Austin has always written songs but most of them have been unsuitable for the band. The latest album is the exception, where the majority of the songs are written by Tim or Austin as lead writers. You might also check out his early one California Country and his brilliant reimagining of Foy Vance's Moonshine, a gem in the HF catalogue.

Oh you should look at any of the songs from the "Sounds of Lockdown". They recorded songs and videos while living in three different states! Very well done and the creativity of the videos just kept getting better! One thing about Home Free, they are truly out to make people smile. Especially around Christmas as they always give us a little gift of a song. Last year it was "What Christmas Means To Me" which I highly recommend! They are also notorious for their April Fools jokes that they love to play on us! And each Valentine's Day, you can guarantee one truly romantic song and one that they make just a tiny bit silly. But even the songs they are serious about give you a sense of calm.

Your "same tenor" joke was cute. Reminded me of the BTS Patron Perk video for their Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas. One of them (Rob?) says maybe they should do something-something and another says "Not a chance," and he's answered with "No, he's right there." Chance is standing behind them and give a little wave. Also, I wanted to say I think Santa is coming across as a Mafia boss in this video. I think they threw those bills out to the audience when they first did this song a few years ago, long before I'd ever heard of Home Free dammit. I'd love to have one with Austin picture.

'irreverent' works just fine. The "Sounds of Lockdown" album is great - I'm not sure all of the tracks were done during lockdown, but most of them were - and the videos simply emphasize how talented this group is - they can sing, they can act, they work with Darren on the arrangements, and they can turn their hands (or their significant others' hands, I guess) to videography. Their video editor should get big awards for some of the work he has done over the years, but especially pulling footage from 5 different places into coherent videos.

I liked the word irreverent. It is irreverent to the “norm”/traditional thoughts of Christmas gift giving. Even Santas giving of cash rather than gifts is against (aka disrespectful) to conventional thoughts. Full of Cheer and Do You Hear What I Hear are two more great Christmas songs by our favorite “Santa’s Counterfeiters “.
