Easy to explain. Band Maid doesn't play a genre, Band Maid IS a genre. Pop, punk, prog, thrash, rock. Metal. They roll it all into a fantastic ball and the unique Band Maid sound comes out.

Cody and Sophia, funny you should mention the word play. Band-Maid has a song on their KZitem channel titled "Play". The song starts out like an instrumental with lyrics kicking in later. The song was going to be an instrumental, but Saiki, their lead vocalist, liked the music so much she talked them into writing lyrics for it. So, Miku, the chief lyricist, did. I suggest you go way back into Band-Maid's discography and react to "Thrill". It was the group's first song released on a video. It saved the band from being disbanded by their management company. They have recorded over 130 songs in their decade long careers. Most Maidiacs have their favorite songs. The first song I saw on KZitem was "Domination". It showed how talented and tight the band was, but the thing that stood out to me was how charismatic and in-command of the audience, Saiki, the lead vocalist was. What a first impression! Many of their early songs like "Real Existence", "Non-Fiction Days", "Dice", "Blooming", and "Choose Me" are among the favorites of most Band-Maid fans. Three songs I love are "Manners/Black Hole", the official live video, and "Moratorium". "Manners/Black Hole" is a back-to-back two-fer video that really displays the band's musical diversity. It's well worth reacting to the two songs together. "Moratorium" is among the favorites of all Maidiacs. It's just a pure hard rock Band-Maid song.

About this song: It strikes me for the first time how elegant Akane's drumming looks, while she hammers away, like they owe her money. Also, Miku didn't have much guitar skills yet, she never played until they started this band! But Kanami took her under her wings, and it feels so amazing that when she does her solo and her second run starts. The rest of the band takes the tune and let it soar to such a great height. It's almost like they lift her up and carry her around on their shoulders, love it! As well as your reactions, of course!

Band-Maid's lead singer, Saiki, had surgery for throat polyps a few years ago. Since then, the band has been very protective of her voice. As part of that, each serving (as they call their concerts) has a section halfway through where Saiki leaves the stage to rest. Meanwhile, the rest of the band does a few songs where Miku sings lead, some instrumentals, and Miku does her Magic Spell Time bit (improv comedy in the middle of a rock concert- must be seen to be believed).
@skrrytch

❤ So you started with two instrumentals and "Hate?" Now you need some nice melodies 🙂 Then try "Freedom" (LIVE)? That's a rocking and very catchy song with the best LIVE performance I have every seen ... plus AKANE. So much joy on stage ...! And if you want to hear more extremely different songs then try these: - Thrill (MV, their first video from 2014) - Bestie (MV, their latest song, from May 2024) - Corallium (LIVE) - Influencer (MV) - About Us (LIVE) - Manners, Blackhole (LIEV) - Daydreaming - Sayonakidori (Acoustic) ......... These are some songs that just came into my mind. They are really very different from each other.

Another great reaction. Instrumentals...they use them to give their lead singer, Saiki, a break. The instrumental, or two, along with a song, or two, from Miku (Second lead, backing vocals, rhythm guitar) in the lead, followed by Omajinai Time (Magic Spell Time, I know this must sound weird, but it is truly entertaining), lead by Miku, give Saiki a good long break. Saiki has had vocal issues in the past and has had an operation to address it. That with vocal training, her voice is stronger than it's ever been. No US tour announce yet for this year, but if you want to go to Japan, they have what they are calling their "Hall" tour. June 28th, in Aichi. July 5th, in Osaka. July 14th in Kanagawa. They are also playing in 3 festivals in Japan. July 21, "Osaka Gigantic Music Festival". Aug 16, "Rising Sun Rock Festival". Aug 17, "Summer Sonic". They are also working on their new album release which is due out at the end of this summer. PO!🕊 As for songs, to see other dimensions of the Maids: "Daydreaming" OMV is a fantastic rock ballad, and always in my top 2, usually #1. "Blooming" OMV, the other in my top two, is a masterpiece of a composition. "Domination" Official Live was often used to introduce new people to the band. Gives you a little bit of everything. "Freedom" Official Live features Akane (the Gorilla) on drums "Manners" and "Black Hole" Official Live. Gives you two different feels for the band again, with Manners being a bluesy/groovy song and BH is just a experience of controlled chaos of speed. "Rinne" OMV if you want something a bit harder. "Bestie" OMV is their latest release. Collaboration with Mike Einziger from Incubus. Mike Co-wrote the song with the Maids and Miku did the lyrics. A ballad with a different sound to expand the Maid diversity in their portfolio. The Maids opened for Incubus in Japan on 5/1/24. They did the first live performance of this song with Mike joining them for the song.

They are a Tsunami of talent. These girls paid their dues for the right to play. Akane, Misa, and Kanami practiced and studied music since they were young kids. They did another instrumental song for the Genshin Impact concert that you will recognize. Everyone in the civilized world probably would Don't forget to check out The Warning soon.

Instrumentals came about for a very practical reason. Saiki developed polyps on her vocal cords kinda early in the bands existence and eventually had to have surgery to get them removed. Since then she’s been very diligent in taking care of her voice. She works with a vocal coach to strengthen it, drinks a syrup during shows to keep them from getting damaged again and the band put in a break mid show for her, so they do a chat with the audience that is very fun, usually followed by an instrumental or two and a song sung by Miku.

Great reaction and some of the instrumentals that Kanami (lead guitar/composer) writes are also to help Miku (second guitar/Red Rose) learn new techniques to help improve her playing skills. In my opinion, female rock musicians have a different take on how to compose songs, it's that difference that make Band-Maid (and a lot of the other all female bands in Japan) unique. With Band-Maid it's a joint experience, there is no ego so no taking away from the others.

@@philipcable437 Actually no one (except maybe the Maids themselves) know how many instrumentals they have written or played, but there is a surviving recording (unreleased) of a demo instrumental called "Want More" that is likely their first instrumental in tangible form. Also, given "Go Nuts!" was a commission piece for a radio or TV show, it may have been technically "released," but not officially released by Band-Maid or by their label as a Band-Maid product. DOMINATION live or HATE? live will give you a good introduction to the lead singer, Saiki's, powerful vocals. All the videos on their YT channel from the past 3 or 4 years have English subtitles so you can see the depth and brilliance of Miku's (rhythm guitarist, backing vocalist, main lyricist, founder of the band and quite frankly ridiculously beautiful woman) lyrics as well as understand what Saiki is singing about. But she has such a melodic voice that it is an instrument on its own and so not using the subs means you'll be able to watch all the complex instrumentation. OOPS! Just realised you've seen HATE? , which I missed somehow...should have subscribed and hit that bell...now sorted out!

They have these instrumentals as well as a usually 1 song per album where Miku is the lead singer and Miku also has her magic time which an audience participation skit she does all of this is for giving Saiki a break mid concert, their shows are long 22 songs on average. Besides the songs that were written as instrumentals they have a few of their other songs with instrumental versions. There is one song Play, which was an instrumental but they added lyrics and has an excellent musical intro. One of these songs Without Holding Back, the two Guitarists, Kanami and Miku went on Herman Li's youtube and played that song with him adding in his dragonforce guitar and he was dressed as a maid "auditioning" for band maid. Might be worth watching that video as well for being hilarious and if you are a dragonforce fan. Their songs are all different, complex as well because in songs the 1st, 2nd and 3rd version musically are always different and considering they have well over 100 songs all good all different, it is amazing Kanami how good a composer Kanami really is, since she writes all of that music.

Who else writes such interesting and complex music that could be enjoyed without a vocalist? I’ll search around for a way to bribe you into doing my recommendation for song #4: “Puzzle,” official live. Another bombastic start for you, and an example of Band Maid’s more “cinematic” and complex style. This was the first of many incredible instrumental by the Maids. Next? Their newest song! - “Bestie” - OMV The vocals are all English. The music was co-written with guitarist Mike Einzinger of INCUBUS. I think you’ll like it. Take care and rock on! 🤘🏼🔥🌏🎸🥁🎤🎹🎼😎✌🏼

Not sure the real reason why they started with instrumentals. But heard there were 2 reasons. 1. for Miku to get more challenges. 2. For Saiki to get some breaks. You see; in 2016-17 she got some problems with her vocal chords (polypps??), so the need of breaks became urgent. "Onset" is one of them. They also had one named "Play", but Saiki was loving it so much and loved humming to it. So she asked Miku, who at the time had written lyrics to a few of their songs, to do some to this song too. Other instrumentals? Most famous are: Onset, From now on, Don't be long. My favourite is "Without holding back", which was never released on any album. It's a bit upbeat, nice double bass work, and some sweet use of the "egyptian scale" by Kanami. kzitem.info/news/bejne/2p2awIB4i6tiqHosi=tkhLhDtHezAYFOR8

Great comments, I have two suggestions...next song PLAY live. The other would make a longer reaction by playing Puzzle MV followed by live version then the acoustic live version. By doing all 3 you'll see how versatile they are even with the same song.

The founder and rhythm guitarist Miku also takes lead vocals on some great songs. Those and the instrumentals give Saiki a break during live shows. "Sayonakidori" acoustic is one.

Saiki the lead singer has had throat surgery in the past so the band are very careful with her voice. They play 2+ hour sets so to give Saiki a break around mid-set they do three things. 1. Play an instrumental, 2. Miku (rhythm guitar) takes lead vocals for a song or two (she usually has one track per album where she is lead vocalist) and 3. Miku will do her legendary and hilarious "Magic Time" MC set. Then Saiki comes back on to finish the set. Even though Saiki no longer needs a break nowadays, it's become more of a tradition. So yeah, they have a number of really cool instrumental tracks. Check out the MV of "From Now On" for another instrumental banger!

The best band in the world. They mix and match different genres, a lot of times in the same song. Puzzle is a great one and if you like to mix instrumentals and vocals in one, Play live should be your next one!

Band-Maid has around 5 to 6 instrumentals, they usually play one, rarely 2, of them during each show to give the lead singer a break. Most of the times rhythm guitarist Miku also sings a song herself before or after that. "Onset" was the song that sealed the deal with Band-Maid for me, after that, nothing was like before again 🙂 If you want to hear more instrumental brilliance, please listen to the band ASTERISM, songs "Rising moon", "Dawn" or "Gunfire" and be blown away again. With two of the worlds best and youngest guitarist and bassist you'll ever witness. I swear, I'm not lying ✌🏻

Band-Maids lead singer Saiki had problems with throat polyps, so they started doing instrumentals to give her a little break in a 2-hour concert. She can kind of cool down her voice a little bit. they also do the MC or (Omajinai time) portion of the concert for the same reason, so many people love it some not so much.

They're likely not coming to the US this year. They are dropping a new album this summer and will most likely be touring in Japan the rest of the year to promote it. We may see a US tour in 2025 unless they opt to tour Europe instead.

I like their song "Play" again Official Live. They are a Live band... not that their MV's are bad in any way, but if there is a quality live recording of a song, that will get requested first. MV's are usually only if the live recordings available are like fan cam or some crap.

Try Thrill the song and MV that launched them as the management were about to drop them, Freedom great drum solo from Akane, Hate brilliant vocals and guitar solos and a short battle with Misa and Kanami, every track is brilliant, individual and they are great live. Band-Maid members are: SAIKI Atsumi (Sy-i-Key or Psyche) “Ice Queen" - Lead vocals, arrangements and melodies. At 30 and the youngest, “Sensei” (Teacher) as band members call her, has the last word on many musical decisions. High-heels or sneakers, Sai-chan’s smile melts away her sometimes perceived, coldish persona. Saiki’s powerhouse performances, charisma, and voice focus the experience that’s driven her to the top echelon of hard rock front women... or front men! MIKU Kobato (Me-Ku) "Small Pigeon" - Rhythm guitar, vocals, lyricist, 32 years old. “Koba”, as Saiki calls her, is the Band founder and a firecracker MC & PR Spokes Pigeon, po! Her “Magic Spell Time” charm and energy ignite the room. KANAMI Tono (Ka-Na-Me) “Princess” - Lead guitar, keyboards, 32 years old, is a prolific writer of most Band-Maid material. Kanami (translates “Song Wave”) is a possessed riff-slayer who’s so damn adorable it hurts. The only thing you want is more! AKANE Hirose (A-Ka-Nay) "Gorilla" - Drums, 33 years old, band energizer & co-clown with MISA. Achi’s talents include massive consumption of noodles and bananas, of course, (even during performance!) while revolutionizing rock drumming with relentless drive, dynamics and the kick. This “DrumZilla” is the Party! MISA (Me-Sa) "Barefoot Assassin" - Bass, 31 years old. An alluring free spirit driving her 5-string to rapturous low-ends while pulling off surprising counter leads with Kanami, off-stage MISA is the band’s goofball ballerina. Sometimes seen as the Mysterious One because she lets her instrument do the talking, the Assassin literally kills it… every note uniting Band-Maid’s world-class rhythm section. A slug of JB, a slight grin, and let the slappin’ begin… MISA! MISA! MISA!
