Iran’s retaliatory attack against Israel was a success. Iran managed to destroy several military locations, many in the south and, in particular, the Nevatim Airbase in the Negev, home of F-16 and F-35 fighters that attacked the Iranian embassy in Damascus. Israeli Channel 12 news confirmed that 7 missiles hit the Ramon Air Base, another major base in the Negev, southern Israel.
Commentary and analysis by Iranian Professor Mohammad Marandi, former CIA Larry Johnson, and Scott Ritter.
Israel attacked Iran's embassy in Syria on April 1, in an act of war. Iran had a legal right to respond in self-defense, according to article 51 of the UN Charter, which is exactly what it did.
The Israeli attack on the Iranian consulate in Damascus had resulted in the martyrdom of Brigadier General Mohammad Reza Zahedi, a senior commander of the IRGC's Quds Force, his deputy, General Mohammad Hadi Haji Rahimi, and five other military officers.
After the attack, which breached international law and the Vienna Conventions, Iranian leaders vowed a “decisive response” exercising their right to self-defense.
Iran’s foreign ministry in a separate statement warned against further attacks on Iranian soil.
