As a ten-year-old kid, I immersed myself in this album (even more than Rubber Soul). I must have played it a thousand times and I still love it. The original UK vinyl pressing knocks spots off the CD - so much more presence and way better dynamics.

I loved "And Your Bird Can Sing" as a kid because it was used as the theme for the Beatles cartoon show. Since it wasn't on the Capitol album, that's the only place I'd ever heard it. Peppers, Magical Mystery Tour, White Album, Abbey Road, Let it Be all after this. it shows the ridiculous amount of song ideas they had and that’s why they’re the GOATs. so much material that’s all so good, and all manages to sound different each time. keep up the good work i’ll be watching future reviews!!

Spot on take as always. I think it's telling that the video of this 35 minute album is almost twice the length of many of your other album reviews. There is just no way you could ever pick out songs on Revolver to not delve deep into and give the justice they deserve. The originality and redefining of the recording process, the variety of sublime melodies and the effortlessness with which they give us these timeless classic tunes one after another... It still blows me away after hearing the album so many times. I think Revolver was the highest peak for The Beatles and 60s rock in general, but looking at the albums we've got ahead of us, we're still high up in the clouds! My favorite songs are I'm Only Sleeping and For No One, but it's pretty much all of them.

Hard to believe this was the same band on The Ed Sullivan Show just two years earlier. Their music had matured that much. Everything was happening extremely fast in the 60s. Another great review guys. Thanks for getting into some of the studio achievements, great information. You'll be seeing Klaus Voorman's name more further down the line.I love the contrast from Rubber Soul to Revolver. It's almost like night and day. "Paperback Writer" and "Rain" are also great. The first time I played "Tomorrow Never Knows" I couldn't believe my ears. It totally blew my away, I didn't think it was The Beatles I couldn't believe the date it was released considering how new it sounded to my ears just a few years back. Macca shines especially on this record for me with his pop ballads (some influenced by Brian Wilson's Pet Sounds) and lead guitar work as well as the use of string and horn sections in the arrangements but still keep a very psychedelic pop feel. A very melodic beautiful pop album that blew the doors open for music.

Beatles music transcends through generations. I say this because you guys look quite young to be into the Beatles, which I think is great! It's also a testimony to my first sentence. I was around during the Beatle years, though very young, and having been there I can honestly tell you that we didn't know what hit us! People can examine their music today and say this is simple or what's so special about that, etc. But back then, it was all unheard of. Today, you can hear feedback on a guitar and say that's just rock and roll. But in 1964 when you heard that buzzing sound at the beginning of I Feel Fine it was a rather shocking experience. Some DJ's even sent the record back to Capital claiming that there was a fault in the master tapes. After that, the rules had changed. Anyway, keep doing what you're doing guys. Rock on!

best Beatles album all thw songs are great but And your bird can sing, She Said, and Dr robert are probably my favorites I love Lennon's vocals on rocking type tracks. I love how he emphasizes certain words, sounds more nasally.... for example on Dr Robert (i could be messing up the exact lyrics) "He helps YOOOU to understand" PS - anyone who says Ringo was a hanger on knows nothing about music. His drumming in many ways is the main key to the song. For example in Ticket to Ride in addition to Lennon's vocals, Ringo's drumming makes the song work.

The London newspapers had reported that 82% of the British people believed in religion and by the end of the decade only 17% said the same. So when John said, "we're more popular than Jesus," he was referring to what was going on, not that they were better than Jesus. This album had a big influence on me as I was only 16 when it came out. I must have listened to the album so many times that the grooves wore out.

Tomorrow never knows, the most advanced and experimental track on the album, was the last track on the LP, but was the first track they recorded for Revolver. Who does things this way? The Beatles, and the rules no longer applied to them. They had become the greatest band of all-time, and would solidify their hold on that title when they released their next album. This could easily be the best album of all-time. 10 out of 10! Enjoy watching your show.

It's so so nice to see you guys loving Revolver and being so enthusiastic about it! Granted, it is easy to love, but it's still nice all the same. I felt my own enthusiasm and love for the record growing as you guys were talking about the songs. I can't even pick favorites. I absolutely love almost the whole thing the same amount, but I guess I can say that the ones I always repeat a million times are Taxman, Eleanor Rigby, Here There and Everywhere, She Said She Said, And Your Bird Can Sing (John is just dead wrong, it's a banger song, I love it a lot. He probably was just bitter about the subject he wrote about at the time he said this), For No One and Tomorrow Never Knows (honestly, this song is just something else... It also just grew on me more and more and I love it even more every time I listen to it. John Lennon's mind, I'll tell you... This guy was way way too ahead of his time). To me it's definitely a 10/10 album, too and one of the ones I love the most, along with Abbey Road.

Awesome review man. I've been waiting for this. One of my fav Beatles albums if not my fav of all time. Just so much progression for them and such timeless classic music. Each song is so unique and they invented a lot of methods that they used in this album that would be so much popular and inspiration later on. It's funny that they've released this mid 1966 and they did a few concerts afterwards and they also did a few old songs from their previous albums. It's weird seeing them perform such early songs in such a late period of the band where they were transitioning. A few more than after their final concert, they recorded When I'm 64 in November of 66 which is In SGT Pepper. It's so crazy how they have changed over the years. They're like two totally different bands. Like 3 years prior they did Please Please Me which was radically different. Like how did they progressed that much? It's absolutely wild

You two bring a lot to the table...very knowledgeable and enthusiastic.I have been listening to this since it’s initial release..though in the U.S. you had to buy “Yesterday and Today” to get all of the tracks on the British Revolver... hard to pick just one track ...each one so different and unique..Harrison definitely demonstrating his songwriting ability to Lennon & McCartney ... When you realize Paperback Writer/Rain were recorded during the same recording sessions...mind boggling...

Look, your mileage is always going to vary, but for me, Revolver is the GOAT album. And I never even heard it until 1981! I had all the Beatles albums on cassette, but I couldn't find Revolver in that format, so I had to buy a turntable to hear it at last. After reading the book by Roy Carr and Tony Tyler, in which they clearly hint that this was the best Beatles album, I simply couldn't wait. And it turned out to be the best example in my entire life of stellar expectations that were not just met, but exceeded. I agree with your assessment in general; I differ only in detail. Of the McCartney tracks, I rate "For No One" even higher than the others. The lyrics are just wonderful-note that it's your mind that aches, not just your head. Of the Lennon tracks, my favorite, above the other greats, is "She Said She Said". It's just such a bracing, challenging opening ... what other song up to then hit you with "She saaaaaaaid I know what it's like to be dead" before you're even sitting comfortably? Take that, granny! And that woolly backwards guitar is just my favorite Beatles sound. What makes Revolver such a sparkling, coruscating surprise for new listeners and fans is that there are quite a few great, great songs on it that aren't very well known ... and when you discover them, POW! -you just want to deface the Red and Blue albums. A last note: Trey and Shaun, you've just got to watch Howard Goodall's show about the greatness of the Beatles: kzitem.info/news/bejne/u4eJn2Wtj5anjJg

I could not agree more. 10/10 for sure. If it's not the greatest album ever made, I don't know what is. My only quibble is with your choice of best *song*, but only because I love "And Your Bird Can Sing" so much. Some trivia: "Tomorrow Never Knows" is the first track ever to be built around a drum loop. I don't know whether you guys know about Sina (sina-drums on YT), but she put together a fantastic video about Ringo and why he's such a special drummer. You can find it here: kzitem.info/news/bejne/kYR5ya6ZrWSLfII. She demonstrates the specific drum pattern Ringo created for that song.

Correction: thanks to commenter middarklight, I have learned that Ringo's drum groove for Tomorrow Never Knows is *not* a loop. The Beatles were innovators in the use of studio techniques like looping; but while there were five or six loops used on this track, Ringo's drums were not among them. Sorry for the misinformation.

Revolver came out the day after my 13th birthday. I took my birthday money and bought it that very day. I still vividly remember sitting in the family den playing it over and over and over on the record player. Yes, a record player. To say I was enthralled is an understatement. Maybe now, you can see what I meant in my comment about Rubber Soul..... these two albums, though quite different (acoustic vs, electric) are much like Beatles middle year bookends. It's hard to think of one without the other. You made one GREAT point..... the end of the touring years. While at the time, the news was near devastating and yet, in retrospect, it was probably the best thing to happen to their music by far. As far as Revolver, the weakest song for me is Yellow Submarine. Childish and overly repetitive. But still good (8.5). The rest are all 10's. Period. You guys really do a great job and I'm so looking forward to your Sgt. Peppers review.

This album is so good it's as if they came from the future to make it...everything here is a perfect experience from the innocent blissful high of "Good Day Sunshinr" to the twisted, hypnotic experimental novelty of "Tomorrow Never Knows". The depth of "For No One" to the lazy escapism we all have experienced and desires of "I'm Only Sleeping." I can go on and on...but the best Beatles album by far. Also the artwork of the cover of them washing out their older kinda more sappy selves in their longer growing hair coincides perfectly with the perfect name---Revolver. No coincidence that the social "revolution" really got ignited after its release. Again, it's so good it's as if they came from the future to make it better.

Hi. My number 2 Beatles album. Back in the summer 1976 Got To Get You Into My Life was re-released as as a single in America. At that time, 13 years old, I always listened to Kasey Casem on AFN -radio. That was a broadcast station for American soldiers over here in Europe. Luckliy I could receive it over here in The Netherlands. I was just getting into The Beatles, thanks to my neighbor, and the only 2 Beatles records I had, were the Red and Blue albums. After hearing Got To Get You Into My Life, the next day I went to the local recordstore and bought Revolver. My first regular Beatles studio album. Good memories of that time and listening to The Beatles. And after that I became a huge fan, maybe even an obsessive fan. But obsessive used in a positive way. And that's why that specific song has a special place in my heart. It is not the best song on the album, but still...... Other favorites on the album are Eleanor Rigby, She Said, She Said, Tomorrow Never Knows, Taxman and .....yes indeed..... Dr. Robert.

I'd love to see your reactions to the singles released for these albums as like a mini episode. If you can believe it, The Beatles often wouldn't put their best songs on the albums themselves, instead putting them out as singles because they felt like they were cheating their customers by making them buy it twice, once as a single and once on the album. Like you mentioned, for this album it was Paperback Writer and Rain...both amazing songs. For Rubber Soul it was Day Tripper and We Can Work it Out!! Unbelievable songs! Please check these songs out as well.

Greatest rock album of all time, IMHO. Tomorrow Never Knows was so far ahead of its time that its time still hasn't arrived yet. Fun fact: Father McCenzie from Eleanor Rigby was actually supposed to be Father McCartney. For whatever reason they didn't want to use that personal reference, so Lennon and McCartney went rifling through the phone book for names near McCartney and came up with McCenzie. I've always loved the texture that the Indian music brought to their studio period albums.

Growing up with the ‘novel’ sounds of The Beatles, but lagging a few years behind the mainstream audience, like fainting girls and screaming guys, they made quite an impression on this ‘pre’ teen! So, none of their tunes, no matter how basic or unoriginal were fundamental to me, as they were so different than all of the music of the era, from doo-wops to Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin. In fact, seeing them on the Ed Sullivan show, especially John, was the impetus for me to learn guitar and be in a band, emulating much of their music. Just another kid from the Bronx, NYC, but when our band performed we were lifted to new heights and felt that nothing was impossible. Those were some of the greatest days of my life bar none! To coin a phrase, ‘youth is wasted on the young’ is so accurate, but was scads of fun living it! Oh yesterday...where are you today when we could really use you? Beatles 4-ever! 😊❤️👍
