Thin Lizzy may not be a metal band, but they are most certainly a HARD ROCK band - one of the most legendary ones.

Bonitas, this was a great tune, maybe their biggest single. I'm sure I won't be the only one to say this. As good as this tune is, it pales compared to some of the music these gents put out in their prime. LOTS of great music...

Thin Lizzy were formed in Ireland in 1969 by Phil Lynott (vocals & bass) w/ Brian Downey (drums) and Eric Bell (guitar)... "Whiskey in the jar" was one of their early hits in the early 70's before Eric Bell left the band... Legendary Irish guitarist Gary Moore was a close friend of Lynott and he played guitar in Thin Lizzy on occasion before Moore became a successful solo artist. Thin Lizzy hired 2 lead guitarists - Scott Gorham and Brian Robertson... their dual harmony guitars became a trademark of Thin Lizzy's sound and inspired countless bands in the 80's including Metallica, Megadeth, Iron Maiden and Def Leppard. Thin Lizzy's 6th album 'Jailbreak' became the big hit record in 1976 after years of struggling and it became a hit in N. America as well... w/ the singles 'The boys are back in town'... 'Jailbreak' ... 'Emerald'... 🔥🔥 Thin Lizzy's live album 'Live and dangerous' in 1978 is considered one of the best live albums in rock history. Subsequent Thin Lizzy albums were only minor successes in the US in the disco era of the late 70's... but the band remained popular in Europe... However, guitarist Brian Robertson found himself out of the band by 1978 after an injury in 1976 from a fight... and later disagreements w/ Lynott... (Brian Robertson joined Motorhead in 1983 and recorded 1 album - 'Another perfect day' ... before he left in 1984) Thin Lizzy recorded and toured w/ numerous replacements for Robertson... However, Phil Lynott's persistent drug habits were affecting the songwriter's creative output by the early 80's. Guitarist Scott Gorham was similarly affected. Facing declining commercial fortunes, Thin Lizzy agreed to break up after their 1983 studio album 'Thunder and Lightning'... w/ John Sykes on guitar and a 'farewell tour' in 1983. Phil Lynott was talking about reforming Thin Lizzy in 1985 when he fell ill and was hospitalized in early 1986... He died soon after from organ failure from years of he+++n abuse. Thin Lizzy reformed under numerous names but only to tour... Members of the live touring band eventually recorded their own albums as Black Star Riders.

Good one, Ladies! I was 15 the year this song came out and doing my student driving that summer trying to get enough hours to earn my student driver's permit. This was on the radio a LOT! Great memories. Thanks for sharing it. 🙂
