VoicePlay is my favorite. Geoff is just a dragon slayer with that bass. Eli has amazing runs and riffs. Layne is just an awesome beatboxer. Their version of Bridge Over Troubled Water is amazing to listen to, and the Little Mermaid medley is cool too.

This is the first video I saw of VoicePlay and there is Geoff's low bass cover of "Sixteen Tons" dragged me down the VoicePlay/Geoff rabbit hole. They are the Theatre Kids of a Cappella in my book.

Geoff's quite noticeable talent is usually what draws people in, but you will quickly realize that every single one of these guys are monstrous talents in their own right. I like to call Geoff VoicePlay's gateway drug- his voice just demands attention! Both songs you've reacted to showcase him (Rich Man, slightly less that Oogie Boogie), but other songs like Man In the Mirror, Carry On Wayward Son, and Queen In 5 Minutes allow the others to shine as well. Although to be fair, nearly every song is arranged so that each singer gets a chance to be highlighted- this is one of the things I really love about their arrangements. Because they all deserve that spotlight. Oh, and you mentioned character voices! This one is good, but if you *really* want to see their skills in that vein you should definitely take a look at This Is Halloween and Kidnap the Sandy Claws, both also from the Nightmare Before Christmas. I'm about convinced at this point that nothing is beyond the abilities of this group, should they set their mind on it. They're just that good. Oh, and it's also worth pointing out that the arrangements, video design, execution and editing (including lighting) and basic sound engineering are all done by VoicePlay members. These guys are the total creative package, and the artist in me loves them for that.

@@guypithecusthe1st453 True. I didn't include that one because in this instance I was mentioning songs that highlight character voices, and I don't recall that one having a strong example of that. Pretty sure it's mostly straightforward vocals. But it's still a great song!

I think of Geoff Castellucci as Mr Shock and Awe, especially in this one. He is quite something. :) And smooth as butter. Nice reaction.Oh and Eli is pronounced as elly. OH as you like Geoff, try out his solo performances on his own channel although sometimes he is his own acapella group. You'll see. :)

Their Queen in 5 minutes is a must as well as Geoff's solo version of 16 Tons and The Headless Horseman are fantastic. There are also 3 more songs they have done from The Nightmare Before Christmas. What is this?, Kidnap the Sandy Claws, and This is Halloween.

Great reaction, thanks! For all of the Nightmare songs they follow the script closely - as they should. Check out Queen in 5 minutes if you want to see what happens when they go full-on theatrical and create their own.

They are based in Orlando so they are theatrically "Disney centric". That's the last of the big acappella bands. They have worked with Homefree on a fun one "Zombies vs Hillbillies" to "I Will Survive". Tim has appeared in Voiceplay's "Just Sing" done to support artists during the pandemic and Geoff recently arranged a song for Homefree that I can't remember right now. Peter Hollens collaborates with others. I don't think he has with Geoff yet but he has worked with Homefree and both Tim Foust and Avi Kaplan. It's the rarity of the bass voice type and singers that they all have to have musically to make acappella work that causes alot of the intermingling. Voctave is ex-Disney theme park singers and also based out of Florida. Kirstin Maldonado of Pentatonix did a Disney princess medley with Voctave. The other acappella band that is much smaller that is not from a college, theme park or cruise ship is Street Corner Symphony based out of Nashville where Austin Brown, Tim Foust and Avi Kaplan live now. Adam Chance who is the baritone and backup bass singer to Tim Foust in Homefree comes from Streetcorner Symphony. The Hound and the Fox are also from Nashville and have worked with Homefree and both Adam Chance and Tim Foust. When Avi Kaplan started singing again, after his leaving Pentatonix in 2017 from touring burnout, he had the Street Corner Symphony sing with him at his Nashville residency in 2019 and on his first tour and Kaleb Thomas Jones from there is still part of his backing band while Daniel Ellsworth has co-writing credit with Avi Kaplan on his 2 songs Sweet Adeline pt 2 and I'll Get By from Avi's first post Pentatonix solo E.P. in 2020. Pretty incestuous these acappella folks. You may need a flow chart to keep them all straight 😉

VoicePlay also featured Rob Lundquist from Home Free in one of their ACA Top 10 videos (Movie themes because Rob is a big film buff), and Chris Rupp (previous member of Home Free) was in VoicePlays ACA Top 10 Bro Country. Another artist that has collaborated with VoicePlay a lot over the years is Rachel Potter, who they knew from when a bunch of them worked at Disney theme park's in Orlando together. She was on X Factor (season 3), has had a great country solo career and has also collaborated with Voctave. Rachel has featured in 9 VoicePlay videos, including another Nighmare Before Christmas song - Kidnap the Sandy Claws.

This song was my introduction to Voiceplay and I've been obsessed ever since! If you're interested, I recommend their cover of "Go the Distance" from Hercules featuring EJ Cordona. I might be a bit biased since it's my favorite Disney song, but their arrangement is unique and powerful. Love the reactions. Stoked to see the duo back together again, but these solo reactions are great too! Peace and love, stay safe, and rock on!
