@hostname47

you can do it with hooks
@motilimkayes1352

Great video as always!!! I will add that you don't have to add different handler for each input, you can use the same handler for all of them like that: handleInput = (e) => { this.setState({ [e.target.name]: e.target.value, }); as long as you give each input the same name as the name you gave the key in the state. examle: this.state.userName then the input should look like this: type="text" name="userName" onChange={this.handleInput} value={userName} /> this way you can have one handler for all inputs

Hi, love your videos. I’m trying to create multiple pages. When I navigate from one page to another, I want the data that was filled by the user to be saved automatically. Note the user has not submitted anything yet, nor there is any save button. The user has simply jumped from one page with form components to another page with other form components using react routers... And I want whatever the user entered saved Can that be done? When the user goes back to the pervious page, the user can pick up where he left off? Of course all this eventually will go to the redux store. But I’m trying to solve the “saved” state of these form even after navigating to other components/pages using react routers

Functional handler for all form inputs. Values will be an object where the key is the "name" attribute of each input and the value is the value of the input upon submission. const [values, setValues] = useState(); const handleInputChange = (e) => { setValues((prevState) => ({ ...prevState, [e.target.name]: e.target.value })); }; ...

I can't type into my field with a value attribute. I've followed your code exactly and still nothing.
constructor(props) { super(props) this.state = { username:'' } this.handleUsernameChange = this.handleUsernameChange.bind(this); } add the binding the to your handleUsernameChange method. and use '"this.handleUsernameChange = this.handleUsernameChange.bind(this); " to your constructor also change the the definition of your method from a arrow function to a normal function. Its strange though as I encountered the same problem ,but using the arrow function does not require explicit binding thus what Vishwas told must work....Can anybody explain why that happened? Also here's the changes you need to do to your method definition before i forget to paste it "handleUsernameChange(event){ this.setState({ username: event.target.value }) }"

I don't know if this is a dumb question (if it is I apologise in advance lol) but when you press Submit in 12:33, for the element, I noticed the alert brings the *value* of the element, and not the filling of the tag, which would be React with an upper-case R, is that expected? So when the user fills in the username and comment, would that be the values of the inputs username and comment?

I have checked the code in this lesson and everything works except the Topics area. I look at the error I get from it and it says " cannot appear as a child of ." and "The tag is unrecognized in this browser." like I said everything works but it will not show the three choices. I do like your course and would recommend it to anyone. If you have any ideas on how to fix this, let me know please.

@hobbosen-jz4pq

Yes, there's a much simpler way which is using the FormData class. All you have to do is create an instance of FormData class and it will record all the values that were in the input fields at the time of creation. const form = document.getElementById("myform") const recordedData = new FormData(form); And the fun part is there's a lot of valuable methods that come with the class like .get() where you can grab the input field value of a specific input by specifiying the name of the input. just attach the method to the instance (the object you created) and it works. recordedData.get("password) I dont understand why he doesnt use it here, maybe there's a reason, but I see tutorials avoiding FormData class for some reason. Maybe there's some conflict with how react works???🤔
