This is a good take on explaining how to get into crafting. I can tell you spent a lot of time trying to figure out how best to explain the process. But honestly, you're right in that to really get into it, practice and doing it hands on is the best method.

You can hit a macro for a minute and watch WeskAlber begginer's guide on youtube . xD I'm not sure if its me who missed it along with gear at the beginning, but meals? Meals with a capped CP boost and preferably control as a secondary stat as they can make a significant difference even at low lvl and are mandatory at high lvl. +3% exp lol

One note about macro crafting - you can stack multiple actions without a wait command to essentially do a pseudo if-else statement. For example, if you have /ac "Precise Touch" /ac "Basic Touch" It will execute Precise Touch if the condition is Good, but will otherwise execute Basic Touch.

The part that hampers me the most is. Needing a material, that I have no clue on how or where to get it. I am at level cap(80) for 2 gatherers of the 3(fisher still lower) and I am at level cap for 2 or 3 crafters and the rest are fairly close behind. There are so many things that you just can't go out and collect, for many reasons. A lot of things you have to buy through various methods and some, specifically from other players.(One example, I have no FC housing or submarine and etc.. So some things I can't just get. And the more I play the more of this I run into). That being said I only been playing for a little under 4 months. Learned a load and so much more I am uncovering. So very enlightening and very frustrating. Thanks for the video. ;)

Even endgame crafters will frequently buy things from other crafters. The specialist system makes it actually quite lucrative to make HQ mats for non-specialists to use (since they might struggle to make those mats HQ themselves and might either be unwilling or unable to change specialties).

At first I couldn't wait for WN2 since the cp/durability saved is lower than WN and MM. Now I do have it and don't use it XD. If you use WN2 you need to use at least 7 durability reducing actions. If you don't you will have wasted cp. 6 actions results in same durability saved as MM, but at a higher cost. Innovation is too good to skip once you have it. It cost 18 and increases the net 4 touches by 50%, so it kinda adds 2 touches which are equal to 20 cp. A macro I use for 40 durability crafts is: Inner quiet, innovation, 3 touches, MM, innovation, 3 touches, finish craft. For larger crafts I usually add 1 WN, followed by innovation.

Yes, I have to agree that unfortunately crafting in FFXIV is not as user friendly as WoW -- at first -- but it is far superior. (I too am a WoW player who started crafting FFXIX.) Unlike Wow, the _Crafting Log_ (press N) in FFXIV shows ALL the crafting classes. If you don't have the required materials you can right-click on one of the materials and do "Search for Item by Gathering Method" which opens up the _Gathering Log_ (press B) -- this allows you to see the zone of where to get this material. I found it helpful to look at a Leveling Guide so you can see you need to gather before your next crafting quest. **Pro-Tip:** That run on sentence with all those "and" instead of periods is extremely hard to read.

I enjoy your videos. I started playing recently and I was wondering when does crafting become profitable? I've played other MMOs but I am wondering, is it better to just race to the end game and sell from there? With the way you get gear in this game through dungeons and quests, I was wondering if anything less than 50 is worth crafting for profit. My main is level 30 and I have my leather working to 20 something. Thanks man
@WeskAlber
3 жыл бұрын
By the time I reached Shadowbringers on this character, I had earned over 10mil. It's NOT just endgame. Very early game, 1-50 levels, profits can be extremely limited unless you're doing Heavensward's Firmament, which earned me 3 mil alone. But once you get even into the first expac, you can make LOTS of money. HOWEVER, given Asmon's current effect on the game, you may find some more profits in 1-50. ALOT of new people playing now. Additionally, max level profits, aren't that high anymore.They're there, but you can make plenty of profit off of lower level stuff. We're at the end of the expac so every market is filled, we're waiting... If you're worried about hitting "endgame profts" then come back in 5 months. Because end-game profits are gone until EW comes out

Not sure why a game would have a player jump through that many hoops for crafting. And it looks like you have to be great with macros, or risk carpal tunnel syndrome. I'm so confused. I just want to get a craft to 19 to unlock materia melding. But all the crafts are connected, so to do carpentry you need bronze rivets for stuff, so you have to level black smithing, for black smithing you need stuff from leatherworking ect ect. And all this talk about armor sets? What?
@WeskAlber
3 жыл бұрын
Well getting to 19 won't help you meld gear beyond 19. If you want to meld at 80, you need a crafter at 80. You otherwise need to use Melder NPCs. As for the leveling, you can get to 19 before materials start to need to be crafted from multiple crafters. But yes, in higher levels, you need BSM materials for CRP and so forth.

I do like this video but I will say advising against using hasty touch etc is actually a bad idea. I don't get your philosophy on NQ vs HQ... I mean, what's the actual difference between saying "NQ item has a penalty compared to a HQ item" and "HQ has item bonus stats over the NQ item"? To me it just seems like a matter of perspective, and unless you have some other, separate 3rd threshold as a reference point, then how can you tell whether it's the NQ or HQ version that is the basis to compare the other version to?
@WeskAlber
3 жыл бұрын
ilvl. ilvl is the thing that sets everything into place. Tome gear for example, has no quality levels to begin with. Tome gear just -is-. And so, an ilvl 130 weapon from the Tome Vendor... will be WAY WAY stronger than a NQ Crafted item, despite being, theoretically, both No Quality. But if you HQ said i130 item, it will have equal stats. Also, it works either way, point is NQ is really bad stuff
@kubasliwa204

@@kubasliwa204 There are no rarity levels in this game. Color is gear "type" and even that is flexible. The only colors with strict definitions are Pink means Aetherial, or gear with random substats, and Purple for relics
@kubasliwa204
3 жыл бұрын
@@WeskAlber welp, just checked some things and turns out you're right, white and blue gear of the same ilvl have pretty much the same stats, maybe in different combinations, but the overall value doesn't seem to change. TIL I guess, although that does make me wonder what's even the point of color coding this way if apparently all it does is tells you the "source" of an item, but even that is not entirely true in case of crafted items.
@WeskAlber
3 жыл бұрын
@@kubasliwa204 Substats are different yeah, but that's independent to ilvl. Within each specific patch, color can mean more and in general, your goal IS to be in all blue gear because within a patch, the blue gear is going to be the highest ilvls. But the blue gear of the previous tier, can be weaker than even the HQ greys of the new tier. There is a logical through line, but it's not outright a measure of power since take all color away, ilvl is what is the max stat value
