Pat is one of the only drummers that can pull off overplaying. When I saw them live he was playing random stuff half the time but it was awesome!

Man I would debate that, it drives me nuts. Love his drumming on the albums. Don't like it at all live.

It's awesome because it gives us a vision of how they think of the song, and how they feel about it now; it all comes through. As long as its authentic and tight, I love to see live variations.

So much passion when he plays why bother. You can tell how much that album meant to him before the critics chimed in.

What is rivers doing with his picking hand @3:25? I can't tell if he's just resting his hand or doing some harmonic shit or what
@GoCotton

Good call. I'm not totally sure to be honest. He's got his thumb on the G to mute it, he's muting the high E with his forefinger and he's got the pick stashed out of the way under his middle finger. I think he hit the last couple of notes of the solo with his forefinger maybe to try and get better harmonics on the last note? Didn't seem to really work this time. Other stuff going on during this solo I noticed while I was watching it back over and over: He turns down the tone or volume at 3:12. Then Brian or Scott (I think Scott) hits the worst note ever played.

Pat Wilsons drumming is such an enigma to me. On the first two albums I love every single second of his drumming. But live - and these three songs are a good example - I just think "Dude what the f are you doing" every time he does a fill that isn't there on the record. It's not just that the fills arn't there on the record, it's that he starts these fills like a whole bar or 2 early. I would call it massively over-playing. It frustrates me constantly. Live they sound like a Weezer cover band with a drummer who wishes he was the lead guitarist and insists on showing everyone how great Weezer would sound if he was allowed to drum for them.
