you can’t bring up the past/original state of something and use it as an indication for its modern equivalent. Like, I’d assume that many other aspects of ballet have changed since its origin. People do this so much for some reason, and even more so in etymology/language, like for example “The N word was used as a slur/derogatory term for black people in the past, therefore you shouldn’t use it” even though modern usage of the word is done in an effort to reclaim it and render it in a positive light . Same with the word “gay”, which originally means “joyful” or “happy”, but the usage of “gay” in that context/with that definition is technically considered archaic now. Things change, and IMO the contemporary usage/state of said “thing” is the one that should be held with the most consideration,. That being said, I think the stereotype of all male ballet dancers being gay is dumb and problematic, because it’s used in a negative sense, portraying being gay/“feminine” as undesirable.

I think adiksadiatabs problem is in the nuance of your first half of the sentence "Being from the Philippine, I'm not into ballet so much," as if it's two correlated things when it doesn't necessarily reflect any connection whatsoever You can just simply said, "I'm not into ballet but I'm proud with our Prima Ballerina that has successful career abroad (mention the name and the company)" Or maybe something that goes along like, "Ballet is not really that famous in Philippine but I'm happy that we have Prima Ballerina such as (mention names) in a well-known dance troupe that brings them international recognition,"

It's the performances of that ballet that non--ballet dancers see once a year in December that is the source of many stereotypes. I'm referring to THE NUTCRACKER of course. Anyone who has seen the Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairies will see the female ballet dancers being small, delicate, ethereal fantasy figures. I would agree that all the times that the male ballet dancer lifts the female ballet dancer way up high over his head and twirls around with her he is using lots of muscle power. There is lots of strength and muscle flexing involved in many male ballet routines.

Okay quick story time on how I found your channel. I've always been interested in ballet but didn't have the facilities in order to pursue it and i was celebrating the one year of Alicia Alonzo aka the QUEEN of Ballet's death anniversary early but finding as many videos as possible of her dancing and binge watching them and underneath all those videos there was this one.... So yh that's how I found your channel you seem pretty cool tho😅

I am a male and I am totally opposite to a ballet dancer when it comes to flexibility because I have cerebral palsy. Truthfully I tried ballet but was kicked out of my ballet class because my teacher wanted me to try it only temporarily to see if I liked it and I loved it. The reason she kicked me out is because I have very poor posture and my right foot is flat footed and because I have cerebral palsy my left foot can’t do most of the ballet leg exercises and so I did my best but she didn’t want to waste her time on me so she kicked me out. I love ballet and yes please boys do ballet and don’t be afraid people will love you for it and some will not; forget them !

A friend of mine is a professional dancer in musical theater. He does eight performances a week for three to four weeks at a time; in the two months between shows he is learning and rehearsing the next show. And even when he is off season, he still has to keep it up because falling behind will make it that much harder to get back into performance trim when the next season starts. That takes a level of physical fitness and endurance that few humans can achieve. And from what he has said, women have it worse because there is a lot more competition for limited spots. I have never understood how ANYONE could say that dancers are weak.

Sorry, I can’t stop remembering when I would go to performances of BALLET TROCADERO DE MONTE CARLO in Los Angeles. You are great for ballet and the LGBTQ. Will you please do out and about videos when you get to Stuttgart? Take car, be safe. ❤️

"Most of them are gay or bisexual😗" I kind of think that assumption is dumb because dancing doesn't change your sexuality

You’re a great professional but you look so young. My God, for a kid so young you have such eloquence in your presentation. I’m not making a come on. I’m gay but, you are extremely talented and forget about sexuality, to get to that level, your committed to training and constantly practicing, you deserve all the complements in the world. I mean, sure, I like watching you and you’re really hot but I can’t help keep coming back to your level of commitment to this art makes me appreciate your hard work to excel yourself in such a beautiful art form.

As a gay 33 year old, who wished they had the confidence and support at a young age to not care about the bullying and gay comments, you most certainly deserve that pat on the back!! I really wanna give you a hug for being uplifting to those who might not think they can , or if they’re not good enough.

I 've loved ballet since I was a little girl. Unfortunately I live in a small town and there was no possibility to attend any dance class. I wish you all the best in your life and your career.

You said the feeling of tights on shaved legs would be awkward and I think it's so funny cause the only reason I remember to shave is when my leggings start pulling my leg hairs

I got lowkey kinda triggered when he said gymnasts legs and feet are like that and they aren’t flexible. Like you get points deducted for doing those things and if your splits aren’t perfect you get wrecked by judges and coaches.

As someone that did both ballet and gymnastics... I would say the difference is in the body composition and the support center if that makes sense. Ballet is more a string from the top with long lean lines yet has an underlying core for strength to support the movement. Gymnastics is more “grounded” and compact with a lower center. Both are super flexible but strength is more important in gymnastics. Power vs Fluidity... But you can always tell the gymnast that has ballet training...

Dance belts are also used by high level male equestrians and male figure skaters. And I'm pretty sure that Superman wears a dance belt in Man of Steel--never mentioned in any interviews

Not a dancer, not gay....enjoyed hearing your take on preconceptions people have about male ballet dancers. All we know is that we enjoy the performances & athleticism displayed, knowing that none of it came easy. Thank you. Rich (& Brenda)😊😊

I work in a ballet company in production in Canada and I was very surprised at the ratio of sexualities in the company. A lot of male company members were in relationships with ballerinas which threw me for a moment I has assumed like many that a lot of the men would be Gay....boy was I wrong and ashamed of myself for thinking such a thing!. Because its every other company/work/school/theatre out there! Everyone is different!

I don’t need to be rude but gymnasts do not bend their knees and point their feet like that, we point our feet like all you ballet dancers out there! We are TAUGHT not to do that! Sry if I’m being rude but your saying wrong info. Also I do think ballet dancers are more flexible than gymnasts! 💜💜💜

Great video, dispelling myths barely batting an eye. I have such admiration for ballet dancers. I’d love to do it but don’t have the discipline. It’s a beautiful thing to watch. I got to see one live once when a group came to my home down on a smaller stage and felt so lucky! BTW every woman knows what it’s like to take off the dance belt, that’s exactly what taking off a bra is like. Congrats on the 100k!
